A rare find.. This 1987 VW Cabriolet is super clean and rust free. Motor is in great shape/does not use or leak oil. Purchased new in Kentucky for $15995.00. I have owned it about 5 years and driven it about 10,000 miles. I have installed a new top and liner, front struts, rear shocks and springs, wheel alignment, new front tires, rack and pinion boots, speedometer cable and gear drive, emergency brake cables, tie rod end, ball joint, V belts and hoses, driver's side CV joint, boot and drive shaft, motor and transmission mounts, plugs, points, plug and coil wires, rebuilt alternator, transmission rebuilt, headlight switch, seat leg sliders kit, water pump and thermostat, antifreeze, coolant temp sensor, outer rear wheel bearings, control arm bushings (purchased but not yet installed), and other parts. Email me for a complete new parts list. I am selling this car because my wife has chiropractic neck issues and longer trips I had hoped we could take in the VW has not been possible as she needs our Buick LaSabre. This car is not driven in Michigan in the winter months. We tow dolly it to FL each winter. I have this car for sale locally for $4950.00 and reserve the right to sell it before this auction ends. I paid $2500.00 for the VW and have spent $3250.00 on putting it up in top mechanical shape. I have lost track of the hours spent installing the new parts. If you have other questions email me and I will do my best to answer all your questions. This car hugs the road and is lots of fun to drive. Being 27 years old it is an antique which increases in value. If you purchase this car and are not satisfied with the car when you come to pick it up, I will refund your money, less my eBay charges.

Volkswagen caught testing hotter Golf R 400
Wed, May 20 2015We're getting closer, folks. Last we heard, Volkswagen gave its super-hot Golf R 400 the green light for production. And before that, we were told that if the car got the go-ahead, it would be offered in the United States. So here we are, with a fresh set of spy shots showing what we believe to be the R 400 out testing. Here's one dream that might just be coming true. The prototype seen here sports bigger brakes, different wheels, very low-profile tires, a front lip spoiler, and a wing around back – that last bit looks to be borrowed from the GTI Clubsport. It's not nearly as outrageous-looking as the original R 400 concept, but that's okay with us. Volkswagen's production hot hatches have always been pretty subtle. We love a good sleeper. Under the hood, expect a turbocharged powertrain tuned up to over 400 horsepower. It'll be mated to a dual-clutch transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive – two parts of the current Golf R package that work very, very well. There's no telling exactly when we'll see the production Golf R 400, assuming it's actually, really, finally happening. All we can do now is wait. And salivate.
Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs
Wed, Nov 29 2017BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. "This will allow Drive Sustainability to identify the most impactful activities to pursue" to address issues within the supply chain.Reporting by Andreas Cremer.Related Video: Image Credit: Michael Robinson Chavez/The Washington Post via Getty Images Green BMW Ford Honda Jaguar Land Rover Mercedes-Benz Automakers Toyota Volkswagen Volvo Green Automakers Green Culture Electric Scania ethics mining
VW consumer site finally gets configurator tool back
Tue, Mar 10 2015The traditional vehicle configurator is back on the Volkswagen US consumer website, and it works very well. The company now lets visitors create a virtual model to their own specs and then search for a match among dealer inventories, as is the norm from most automakers. Last summer, Volkswagen tried to break the mold with its thoroughly redesigned consumer website in the US. It sported a slick design but made the highly controversial change of removing the configurator. Instead, visitors were narrowing their selection from a searchable database of models already at dealers. While the streamlined approach immediately told users if their desired car was available, the system also largely hid the prices for options and packages. The newly tweaked design retains the previous tablet-oriented layout, but after clicking a model, the site immediately offers "Build Yours." From there, visitors select a trim, and then the vehicle pops up with options to choose things like colors and packages. The whole layout is clean, features large buttons and works quickly. At the summary page, there's still the opportunity to search for the user's choice in dealer inventories. This is definitely a major improvement.
