West Coast Vw Bus, Transporter. Very Little Rust. Drive It Home on 2040-cars
Scottsville, Virginia, United States
I bought this bus 11 years ago in Eugene Oregon. I used it as my daily driver for about 4 years. I moved to Virginia about 4 years ago and drove it cross country. Since buying a new car in Virginia the bus has mostly sat. I got the car with 70,000 miles and it didn't run. I had the engine rebuilt and Transmission replaced. It has run ever since. The car has 97,000 miles now. I just put in a new battery, exhaust, fuel filter, and air filters. Car started right up and runs good. I'm sure with a quick tune up it would run even better. All lights and blinkers work. You could drive this home today. The car has surface rust but the underside of the car is great. Before I got the car it had a undercoating put on. That is peeling off now but the factory paint is underneath and looks really good. No welding needed. I had the spare tire mounted on the front for more room in the back. I just had the front seats done. They look brand new. I also bought a rear seat folding mechanism that I was going to install when I did the rear seat. It folds like the older camper beds do. You are welcome to it with the bus. Brakes and tires are good. People tell me the transmission I have is real nice. I'm not sure why but they use them on dune buggies. Second gear goes in at what I think is a funny angle but no grinding feels strong. Cruises on the freeway no problem. I'm selling the bus because I'm moving back to Portland Or and thought it would be nice to leave this clean west coast bus on the east coast for a loving new owner. This car has been to a lot of concerts and cool places around the US. I hope a new owner will have as much fun in it as I have. I don't want to deliver the car but I will consider if it's near by. I have the right to end auction at anytime. It is for sale locally as well. Feel free to ask any Questions.

IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013
Wed, 02 Jan 2013The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.
Next Volkswagen Golf R to get 286 horsepower?
Tue, 12 Feb 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't launched in the United States just yet, but we're already setting our sights on the range-topping R model. According to Autocar, the next Golf R will be more powerful than the current version, producing 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Golf ever.
Powering the new Golf R will be a further evolution of Volkswagen's well-liked 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, and when mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the hotter hatch will reportedly be able to sprint to 62 miles per hour in five seconds flat. That's over half a second quicker than the current US-spec model.
Other updates for the new Golf R include the addition of VW's Haldex 5 all-wheel-drive system found in the latest iteration of 4Motion. Furthermore, thanks to the use of lightweight materials, the new R is expected to weigh in around 2,650 pounds - that's a massive 675 pounds less than the current US-spec car. The exhaust has reportedly been reworked to provide more aural delight, as well.
VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC
Sat, 22 Jun 2013Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
