      Listing this german gem for a friend , at this point in his life his priorities have changed and he decided to invest his time and money in other things that are more relevant for him at  this stage of his life .

****international buyers are welcomed*** buyer responsible for any shipping cost , transportation expenses, registration fees and any taxes associated with the purchase of this antique vehicle *****

    This a 20 year project  rebuilt/restored with original german parts  including many new old stock  that the owner has been gathering  for the past 2 decades to make this dream possible. This bus is a multiple award winner and there is documentation that comes with this bus including pictures and a copy of the "birth certificate"  from Germany  and California dmv title

    According to the  "birth certificate" from  "stiftung AutoMuseum" in germany  this bus was produced in germany on January, 19th, 1955 and was delivered to Competition Motors Ltd, Hollywood, California. on   Christmas eve Dec. 24th 1955 ,   the second owner  in 1965  was Mr. Cruz , till 1994  when the current owner Mr J. Gallardo of San Diego California purchased it and began the restoration.

   This model bus came from the factory in Germany as a KOMBI  (shiebetur rechts) but in 1994 Mr Gallardo got this rare barndoor bus and he had his mind clear that this bus needed to be rebuilt/"restored" better than what  the factory produced in 1955  bringing this bus back to life as an 11 window barndoor kombi/deluxe   with "deluxe" features   including a fresh air  a scoop in the front, deluxe polished aluminum trim all around the belt line, two tone paint scheme , correct  1955 stamped 16 " wheels including chromed  hub caps, ambulance overhead fresh air fans, it has a correct barndoor steering wheel with correct wolfsburg castle  horn button for a deluxe bus.

   This a very unique bus that was rebuilt paying extreme attention to detail .
The body is extremely nice, was taken to bare metal when the restoration began ,then resprayed with volkswagen colors of the 50's era including black for the top and a sealing wax red "like " color below the belt line.   The floors both front and rear are very straight dry and solid...

    This gem has been completed as shown in the pictures using the best parts available, all of them german, nos or reconditioned original to make this a show winner including but not limited to:

* Original pressed bumpers

* all new rubber seals all around including windshields , doors ,side windows,engine bay...all rubber new!

* 36hp engine

   Interior is very clean and looks and feels factory brand new since the bus has been driven less than 200 miles since restoration was completed.
  all 3 rows of seats are done in original "style" deluxe microbus upholstery including the 6 leg middle in  excellent condition, original deluxe style interior panels, the headliner is very nice and clean made of the correct fabric corresponding to the 50's era. for the flooring there is the front rubber floor mat and we have a bus rubber floor mat for the cargo/rear passenger area ,other surfaces of the bus have german square waved carpet including rear luggage compartment.

  This Bus is nice and clean on the underside as the topside, over and under, inside and out   crash box tranny, proper 36hp engine with crank start, and many more NOS parts. All of this Kombi interior has been done correctly following the volkswagen "deluxe" microbus theme of the 1950's.

Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project

Tue, Jan 7 2014

It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car. Scroll below to watch the ten-minute presentation and celebrate some initial victories. You can also check out the official Stretchla blog for more photos and updates, including the most recent one that discusses how he talked himself into paying (*spoiler alert) $42,000 for a wrecked, non-functional electric car, along with more recent struggles with the steering rack. Hit us up in the comments to let us know what kind of trouble you would get into with a Model S drivetrain of your own. This content is hosted by a third party. Felicity Ace sinks with thousands of VWs, Porsches, Lamborghinis

Tue, Mar 1 2022

The stricken ship Felicity Ace sank overnight after a week of salvage efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful. The ship, which was carrying up to 4,000 VW Group cars, went to the bottom unexpectedly while a salvage team was attempting to tow it to shore, Bloomberg reports.  "Initial reports from the local salvage team state that the vessel had sunk at around 9AM local time having suffered a list to starboard," Mitsui O.S.K. Lines transportation company (MOL), which owns the Felicity Ace, said in a statement released early Tuesday.    "The last vessel position was around 220nm off the Azores," MOL said. "The salvage crafts will remain around the area to monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available." The ship sank after being battered by waves and listing 45 degrees to starboard, the ship’s operator said. “The weather was pretty rough out there,” Pat Adamson, a spokesperson for MOL Ship Management (Singapore), a unit of Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd., said by phone. “And then she sank, which was a surprise.” VW, Porsche, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini-branded models were aboard the ship, which was headed to Rhode Island from GermanyÂ’s Emden port when the fire broke out on Feb. 16.  Rough seas and ongoing fires fueled by the lithium-ion batteries of EVs onboard delayed the ship's salvage and recovery operations for the better part of a week. While the likelihood of salvaging the smoke and potentially fire- and water-damaged vehicles from Felicity Ace's hold was slim to none, some had held out hope that their special-ordered vehicles might survive the mishap.  The Panama-flagged Felicity Ace was safely evacuated of its 22 crew members by the Portuguese navy after a fire started in its hold more than a week ago. The ship can carry up to 4,000 cars. European carmakers declined to discuss how many vehicles and what models were on board, but it appears to have been transporting approximately 2,500 cars, including roughly 1,100 Porsches and an undetermined number of Volkswagens.  The cars aboard were on order. Porsche customers in the United States were being contacted by their dealers, the company said. “We are already working to replace every car affected by this incident and the first new cars will be built soon,” Angus Fitton, vice president of PR at Porsche Cars North America, Inc., told The Associated Press in an email. The ship sank in water nearly 10,000 feet deep, the Portuguese Navy said.

VW decides against active-cooling system for e-Golf lithium battery

Tue, Apr 1 2014

When the 2015 VW e-Golf was introduced at the LA Auto Show last year, VW said it would come with a water-cooled battery. During the Detroit Auto Show, when the car was trotted out again, VW released a new press release that stripped out the "water-cooled" language, but this change went unnoticed. During a recent VW event in Germany, a friend from Green Car Reports realized that the battery on display did not seem to have any water-cooling mechanisms. That set us off on a bit of a sleuthing and we have now learned that VW is not going to include any active cooling in the upcoming e-Golf. In fact, the company is entirely confident that this car - because of what it's designed to do - doesn't need it. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there" - VW's Darryll Harrison VW has been working on an electrified Golf for ages now, and so changes to the plan are to be expected. But battery cooling is vitally important not just to keep the car operating properly but because when things get too hot, there can be serious public relations problems. Nissan began testing a new battery chemistry for the Leaf in 2013 after an uproar from warm-weather EV drivers in Arizona who were experiencing worse-than-expected battery performance. The Leaf has always used an air-cooled battery, which is another way to say that there is no active cooling system (more details here). Tesla CEO Elon Musk once said this approach is "primitive." So, why is VW following the same path? We asked Darryll Harrison, VW US's manager of brand public relations west, for more information, and he told AutoblogGreen that VW engineers discovered through a lot of testing of the Golf Mk6 EV prototypes, that battery performance was not impacted by temperatures when using the right battery chemistry. That chemistry, it turns out, is lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) in cells from Panasonic. These cells had "the lowest self-warming tendency and the lowest memory effect of all cells tested," Harrison said. He added that VW engineers tested the NMC cells in places like Death Valley and Arizona and found they didn't warm very quickly either through operation, charging (including during fast charging) or through high ambient temps. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there," Harrison said.
