Unique 1985 Vw Westfalia Camper Van With 212 Hp Subaru 3000 H-6 Engine on 2040-cars
Austin, Texas, United States
My
husband bought a 1985 VW Westfalia full camper van 5 years ago and
spent all his spare time redoing it before he died (without finishing
it) this past May on our 33rd wedding anniversary; that's why I need to
sell it, there was no life insurance. He had the original engine
replaced with a 200+
HP Subaru 3000 H-6 engine with 60,000 miles (he bought it from a Westy
place that replaces engines in these vans on the West Coast), he also
redid the electrical harness, all hoses, and the
transmission. The wheels were replaced with VW Synchro wheels and
truck tires for off-road use, he planned to put skid plates on it. The
air intake and exhaust manifold were custom made and installed, the
welds on the exhaust work are gorgeous. He installed 3 batteries on a
marine switch; one is designated for starting the van only, so if you
kill the other 2 batteries while camping, you can still start the van
and get home. It
is in good shape for its age - some
minor paint damage on the exterior, the interior is original. Has new
canvas top and full kitchen with LP tank, water and electric hookups. I
think he was starting to replace the dashboard and gauges, but no
parts and the original equipment is still installed. There is a rear A/C unit he'd planned on putting in, but he
didn't get to it. A/C installed works fine. Ran great last time I was
in it the end of April. I'm sure there are more things to tell you
about it, but I just don't know everything about it; someone who knows
about these vans would, I'm sure of it. The title is in my possession
and clear. |

Chrysler slows minivan production, hasn't built VW Routan this year
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Chrysler has slowed production of its Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans this week, Automotive News reports. The Windsor, Ontario plant will cut its three shifts from eight hours each to four hours each in an effort "to align production with market demand," a Chrysler spokesperson told AN. Chrysler also builds the closely related Routan minivan for Volkswagen at its Ontario facility, but has not built a single example thus far in 2013.
Sales of Chrysler's minivans fell 15 percent for the first two months of 2013, and a large part of that has to do with the 26-percent drop of the Grand Caravan alone (the T&C was only down by one percent). According to Automotive News data, as of March 1, Chrysler had an unsold inventory of 24,713 Town and Country models and 18,547 Grand Caravans - a 69- and 43-day supply, respectively.
"No sense running full speed now, then have a lot of vehicles sitting around a few months down the line," Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told AN. Full production is expected to resume again on March 18.
Volkswagen Golf voted 2013 European Car of the Year
Tue, 05 Mar 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf just went on sale in Europe, but it is already off to a promising start. Announced as the Geneva Motor Show kicked off, the newest Golf was named European Car of the Year for 2013 in dominating style over cars like the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86 twins, Volvo V40, Ford B-Max and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
According to Automotive News Europe, the MkVII Golf won handily over its rivals with a total of 414 votes. The Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 received 202 votes finishing in a distant second, while the Volvo V40 (189 votes), Ford B-Max (148 votes) and Mercedes-Benz A-Class (138 votes) round out the top five. The new Golf marks the third Volkswagen product to receive the prestigious award with previous cars including the MkIII Golf and the most recent iteration of the Polo.
VW recalling 2.64M vehicles worldwide over engine, light issues
Thu, 14 Nov 2013Volkswagen is staging a massive, worldwide recall that's already grown from 1.68 million to 2.64 million vehicles and covers three different issues across a number of vehicles. We already reported on 61,000 Tiguans getting recalled over lighting issues - that was just in the US. Globally, however, VW will be recalling 800,000 Tiguans, according to Automotive News, with the focus on CUVs built between 2008 and 2011. The issue with the Tiguan relates to a simple fuse swap, so this is rather unremarkable, aside from the sheer number of vehicles being fixed. The real, troubling issues relate to gearboxes and pickups.
239,000 Amarok pickups (pictured right) are being recalled over fuel leaks, while 1.6 million vehicles are being recalled to swap the synthetic oil in dual-clutch transmissions with mineral oil. Now, the transmission issue is one for the global Volkswagen Group to address, not just the VW brand - vehicles from Audi, Škoda and Seat use the same seven-speed DSG and are covered under the recall, as well.
Why the switch from synthetic to mineral oil? Apparently, using the synthetic oil in a DSG and then subjecting it to stop-and-go conditions or heavy loads in a hot and humid climate can lead to electronic malfunctions, according to a Volkswagen press release. The switch, from the sounds of it, is largely a preventative measure.
