Very rare Bus. Excellent bus to do a 21 window clone with. Needs almost NO METAL WORK!! The Bus has been tapped in the front and rear drivers corner only. Neither will require any metal replacement. Note the front valance has perfect curve and has no damage. It is skin only. Same with the rear corner. All taps with a hammer, no panel replacement. A qualified metal worker with a stud welder can pull these two dents and have them completely repaired in a day. From there notice all absolutely flawless door gaps. You cant find this in 2014. This is here because I knew what this Bus was a dozen years ago when I saved it from its destined to be used at that time. At that time I couldn't believe what I had. It has probably no miles on it, everything is in super nice shape and nothing really shows much use, just a lot of Az sun:) It is a good thing that i got distracted with my a.d.d. on a 21 window. I kept this Bus to clone a 21 with because it is a very perfect Bus. To graft in a top would be simple and this is the nicest framed and bodied Bus that i have ever come across in a deluxe so i have kept it. Lucky for the highest bidder, deluxe roofs are now being reproduced for around $5k, complete!! And, most of the 21 windows that you've seen in the last few years are cloned copies. 3 of 4 Buses rolling out at famed Wcc are now cloned 21s! This is a very accepted way to have a 21, even M code plates are being reproduced. I am moving on to restore Porsches at a very highly acclaimed shop in S.F. and need to clear my yard. By definition; a barn find. Coming from the backyard of a Vw restoration shop owners personal barn. I've been rolling in the dirt since before I could drive with rare early Vws and here is one of the best boned Buses that I have ever seen! Cheers! To the details... The bus comes with no engine. I can supply a core 1600 single port complete engine for $1000. It is complete with all time, exhaust, etc but has locked up and been stored in the elements. Excellent core to start with. It is not original to this Bus but us an excellent core engine as it is complete down to the stock Bus exhaust tip. Any questions please call me @ 650-863- seven969. Vehicle is also available locally and has been presented to a group of friends and may sell locally, I may pull the ad and end the auction early in that event.. Please contact me with interest so I know to keep it up. I have a clear title for the Bus. These are very rare Buses to come by. The last one that I saw anywhere near the condition sold for over 17k. That Bus was rusty and needed over 10k of metal work and a ton of time to be where this Bus is. This Bus will sell. Be sure to get your bids in early! Thanks, Christopher

VW readying new VR6 with forced induction

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

Volkswagen built a stonking, narrow-angle V6 in the 1980s and 1990s that was found in three different generations of the Golf (their performance iterations, obviously), three generations of the Passat, the New Beetle, the Corrado and the Touareg, among other VWs, a spate of Audis, Seats, a Skoda, and even the Porsche Cayenne. It was a sad day when it was announced that it'd be put out to pasture.
Rejoice, though, fans of the venerable VR6, because Volkswagen has a new, modern variant in the works that, according to AutoWeek, features direct injection and can easily be fitted with forced induction. In fact, AW mentions Volkswagen insiders that claim this unit will spawn a production version of the twin-turbo V6 shown on the Design Vision GTI from this year's Wörthersee festival. That unit produced an epic 503 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Don't expect a production unit with that level of power (although it would make a hardy RS4 powerplant), though. In reality, AutoWeek is suspecting anywhere from 340 to 450 horsepower from the new mill. When it arrives at an undisclosed date in the future, it'll likely be found in the Passat and Passat CC as well as the production version of the CrossBlue.

Volkswagen names new chief designer for Bentley

Thu, Jun 4 2015

The Volkswagen Group has named one of its own to head up the design department at its Bentley division. The role now falls to Stefan Sielaff, who has been with the group (off and on) since 1990. Sielaff is principally an interior designer, but has been tasked with setting up numerous overall design offices for Volkswagen and Audi over the years. In his new capacity he'll be reporting to the group's chief engineer Rolf Frech (and oddly not to Bentley chief Wolfgang Durheimer), but at the same time, Sielaff will retain his role as head of interior design for the entire VW group, reporting to its chief designer Walter de Silva. Sielaff replaces Luc Donckerwolke, who has headed up Bentley design since 2012 and is leaving the company. We'll be on the lookout to see where Donckerwolke lands next. Crewe/Wolfsburg, 04 June 2015 Stefan Sielaff to head design at the Bentley brand • Sielaff also responsible for Group Interior Design Strategy Stefan Sielaff (53), currently Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam, will assume responsibility for design at the Bentley brand effective July 1, 2015 in addition to his present post as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy. As Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff succeeds Luc Donckerwolke (49), who held this function since 2012. Stefan Sielaff joined the Volkswagen Group in 1990, beginning his career in the interior design department at Audi. From 1995 the design graduate was entrusted with setting up the Group's Design Center Europe in Spain. In 1997 he was placed in charge of the Design Studio in Munich and was appointed Head of Audi Interior Design in the same year. In 2003 Sielaff moved to DaimlerChrysler as Design Director of the Interior Competence Center, returning to the Volkswagen Group in 2006 to become Head of Audi Design before being appointed Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam und Head of Group Interior Design Strategy in 2012. In his new function as Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff reports to Rolf Frech, Board Member for Engineering. In his function as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy he continues to report to Walter de Silva, Head of Group Design. Luc Donckerwolke has decided to leave the company. De Silva said: "Luc Donckerwolke has played a key role in the design of various Group brands. We would like to thank him for his work." Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
