With much hesitation I am listing my Westy up for sale. I love this van, and it has done multiple trips and even DD it for a few months without any problems. I bought this van sight unseen, flew to NY and drove it back all the way to NC without a hickup. Just turn key and drive away. While getting great gas mileage.
Only reason I'm selling is b/c I am about to start back up with school full time, and don't think I'll have a chance to do any trips for a few years, and don't want it sitting the whole time. I know once I get in it and take a trip off to see family in Texas, or Central Florida I'll probably change my mind though.

Located in North Florida. Like I said, I love this van, and will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Call/text (609) 408.3916   -Josh

Everything works. Doors open, blinkers blink, seats rotate, fridge cools, stove burns, radio rocks, top pops, etc....
Have a book of receipts with over $15,000 worth of add-on, turning this thing into a lean, mean, gas-sipping, hippy panty dropping, touring machine.

Goodies:
1987 VW Vanagon with Westfalia package. 2 beds, stove, sink, closet, cabinets, sunroof, etc....
107k miles on van. Engine swap was done just shy of 100k.
Bostig engine conversion $$$$$ Over a $7,000 conversion
Aftermarket wheels and tires with full size spare. (Even if you don't like the wheels, they are discontinued version, and extremely sought after by vananuts.)
New Pop-top canvas with 3 windows
Stainless steel coolant lines ($290)
Aftermarket Kicker stereo components ($1500)
Dual battery set-up.
Yakima roof rack system ($490)
Yakima roof-top box ($400)
New fridge w/freezer compartment to replace old technology. Can freeze popsicles ($500)
Stove works
Propane tank works
Have all table tops and jumper seat
Rear airride bags on back springs to compensate for extra weight
Newly installed Burley heavy duty hitch. ($480) Specially made for tossing a dirt bike on the bike. Carried my XR on a two week trip from NC, down the coast to central Florida, then back up.
etc.......

New in box items waiting to be installed:
Jack Bombay top shocks ($95)
Bostig High Capacity Oil Pan ($450)
125w Solar panel, with Sunforce Charger, 30ft of cable with connectors (Will enable multiple days off grid while running fridge, radio, charging stuff, etc....)
GoWesty Sink kit
This isn't a project Westy that needs work to run. This van is fully functional and ready to go. I bought these items b/c I planned on traveling/living in this thing. Have decided to go back to school though, so instead of sitting, I'm offering it to another traveler.
I'll keep adding once I break out the receipt book, and remember everything done.

Bad:
1) Fill tube from gas tank has a small crack, (common problem), doesn't pose a problem unless you fill completely to the top, I usually stop 1/2 gal short of filling it up and it won't leak.
2) Appears it was in a minor accident at one point, and the back hatch has a couple spots where the filler has cracked.
3) Has a small amount of the typical seem rust. No cancer, just the small seem rust that any Vanagon owner has to deal with constantly. You can pick it away, rust convert it, and it will come back, just one of those things about a vanagon. No vanagon is truly rust free. When I had the fridge out, I checked the whole driver side wall and no rust issue was there.

German judge 'inclined to dismiss' hedge fund lawsuit against Porsche

Fri, Feb 27 2015

Last year, around two dozen investors, including hedge funds, leveled a 1.4 billion euro ($1.95 billion at the time) lawsuit against Porsche in connection with the automaker's attempted takeover of Volkswagen in 2008. The Stuttgart Regional Court dismissed the case. Around 19 of those plaintiffs are heading back to court to appeal the ruling and still hope to get 1.2 billion euros ($1.4 billion). However, according to one German judge, the chances for success aren't any better this time around. "On balance it's our view that we consider the lawsuit, or the appeal, to be unpromising for several reasons," Gerhard Ruf, a judge in Stuttgart, said to Reuters. "We are inclined to dismiss the case." The court's ruling on the appeal will be announced on March 26. The investors' case hinges on Porsche's strategy surrounding the botched takeover. The sports car maker said that it wasn't trying to control VW, when in fact it was. These hedge funds had bet against Volkswagen stock, but the share price surged when Porsche's plan inevitably came to light. Investors have sued the sports car company multiple times since then in attempts to recoup billions of dollars. However, none of the lawsuits have been successful, whether attempted in the US or Germany. Former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and and CFO Holger Haerter might still stand trial for the alleged stock manipulation, though. The not-Subaru crossover wagon | 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack First Drive

Fri, Sep 16 2016

Funnily enough, in light of dieselgate, Volkswagen is one of the few brands (along with Volvo and Subaru) to preserve the notion that you don't need a fuel-sucking SUV to meet your life-carrying needs. And, yes, VW's history of addressing off-road desires with all-wheel-drive dates to the mid-1980s with the Quantum Syncro (a.k.a. Passat) and Golf Country – the latter, sadly, never came stateside. The latest offering toward this effort is the 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack. What's an Alltrack? It's a slightly lifted, cladded, and butched-out version of the Golf Sportwagen (yes, formerly known as a Jetta). Not to steal Alltrack's thunder, but starting in 2017 you can also get the standard Sportwagen with 4Motion AWD, which is basically the same running gear for less money. The Alltrack starts at $26,950; the 4Motion Sportwagen starts at $24,930, both with the dual-clutch automatic available at launch. Any discussion of tall wagons brings Subaru immediately to mind, both with the Outback and the Impreza-based Crosstrek. The Volkswagen Alltrack sits between the two in size at 180.2 inches long – 5 more than the Crosstrek and 9.4 inches shorter than the Outback. The 2017 Subaru Outback starts at $25,645, and VW's comparisons focus on the Outback, which is understandable given the similar starting price. A bare-bones Crosstrek starts at $22,245, but quickly gets into Golf price overlap. The Alltrack and the 4Motion Golf Sportwagen are superior daily drivers to the Subaru, whether you're doing an emergency lane change or just trying to merge onto the interstate. Meanwhile, the Crosstrek doesn't have the refinement of the VW. Can we fault Subaru though? It's set a sales record every year in a row since 2010 and is looking at about triple the sales volume of VW's Golf for 2016. So we'll stick to telling you what we think of the Alltrack and let the dealers fight for your dollars. First thing's first. Yes, you can have the Golf Sportwagen and even the Alltrack with a manual six-speed gearbox. The seven-speed DSG automatic is very good, but it's worth noting that any manual gearbox is a rarity these days, especially when we're not talking about a two-seat sports car. You will have to wait until early 2017 for that option, but it also saves you $1,100 off both models. Second, the Alltrack and 4Motion Sportwagens get identical engines. Whether manual or DSG, VW's EA888 turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder is under the hood.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?
