1987 Vanagon Westfalia Full Camper Tdi Turbo Diesel 4 Speed Project Pop Top on 2040-cars

Up for auction is my 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Full Camper. I bought this camper with the intention of dull a full resto/customization and TDI conversion. Unfortunately I'm in the process of buying a house and can't take the van with me. So someone is going to get a great deal. Do you want a turbo diesel camper but the 30 to 60k price tags blow your mind? This is the perfect project for you. I bought this as a running and driving camper, it was a little rough around the edges, nothing bad, just dirty with some dents and dings here and there, "lived in" would best describe it. I spent a summer enjoying the van, camping, took on a few trips to Maryland and Pennsylvania and drove it everyday for a few months. During that time it was a reliable little van and multiple people stopped me and tried to buy it. I began collecting parts in preparation for this project, I bought a set of larger 15 inch steel wheels, a much straighter sliding door (the one that was on the van had been dented pretty good) I've also got an extra hatch for the same reason, the extra hatch has a small dent at the top that should be easy to fix, much easier than the mangled original, an extra rear cabinet. And the coup-de-gras a complete 2000 VW Golf TDI donor car. The car is 100% complete, I bought it off a former coworker who used it as a daily driver until it was hit in the rear. Why bother tracking down all this stuff yourself? I've already done that work! As for what has been done to the van: I stripped it down in preparation for minor body work and paint, screws etc. are in labeled zip lock bags (i know how much of bear putting something together that wasn't organized is), as you can see from the pics some parts of the van were stripped to bare metal. I wanted to make sure there was no rust hiding on those panels! The seam where these vans are notorious for rotting is in what i would consider to be very good shape, there are some small holes inside, but I cleaned this area and was going to treat the rust with some POR. The trasmission was rebuilt prior to my purchase and has the taller 4th gear that you need with the TDI engine already installed. I have years work of paperwork for maint. etc. and even the original window sticker! Everything that came off the van is here and included, I've sold nothing, and won't sell anything separate. It's a package deal. If I wasn't moving somewhere that I can't work on it, I wouldn't be selling. The above pics are from when i first got the van, everything below is as it is right now. As well as pictures of the donor car. Get everything to build a TDI camper in one place! If you have any questions please ask. The van has a clean and clear title, the donor car will come with a bill of sale. As you can see, having a shipper pick this up will be difficult, well pretty much impossible, so have a way to come get it! Cash in person only. BE SERIOUS. DON'T WASTE MY TIME AND I WON'T WASTE YOURS. Thanks.

Volkswagen might cut 40 models across brands to save cash
Mon, Jun 20 2016Volkswagen once set out to pass Toyota and General Motors and become the largest automaker in the world. Following months of fallout from the diesel emissions scandal, the manufacturer is rumored to be dropping around 40 models from its company-wide lineup. According to German business and finance publication Handelsblatt, the Volkswagen Group is looking to slim down and remove a number of low-volume vehicles from various lineups. The company currently sells around 340 models across brands that include Audi, Lamborghini, and Bentley. Volkswagen is refusing to comment, but Handelsblatt claims to have sources within the company. Last week, Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller announced a new strategy for the company that includes a major focus on electric vehicles and new technology services. During his announcement, Muller said the company would be cutting a number of models, but at the time no numbers, models, or brands were discussed. Despite comments to the contrary, rumors have persisted since late last year that Volkswagen was looking to sell commercial truck and bus manufacturer MAN. Volkswagen owns truck and bus manufacturer Scania, so even if it dropped MAN, the company would still have a foothold within the bus and truck market. There is also talk of the company selling Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, which Volkswagen acquired via Audi in 2012. The company's image has taken a huge hit in the wake of the diesel scandal. Volkswagen has set aside cash in order to pay fines and may be looking to sell these several subsidiaries and cut low-volume models in order offset the costs. Despite the scandal, the company led worldwide sales in the first quarter of 2016. The same was true in 2015, but sales tanked at the end of the year following the diesel revelations. Automakers suspend some business in Russia following invasion
Mon, Feb 28 2022These Russian GAZ Tigr infantry mobility vehicles were destroyed by Ukrainian fighters in Kharkiv on Monday. (Getty Images) Â Global auto and truck makers, including Sweden's Volvo Cars and Germany's Daimler Truck, on Monday suspended some business in Russia following that country's invasion of Ukraine. Russian forces invaded Ukraine last week, marking the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War II. Many firms have idled operations in Russia following Western sanctions against Russia. Energy giant BP Plc, Russia's biggest foreign investor, abruptly announced over the weekend it was abandoning its 20% stake in state-controlled Rosneft at a cost of up to $25 billion. On Monday, Swedish automaker Volvo Cars said it would suspend car shipments to the Russian market until further notice, becoming the first international automaker to do so as sanctions over the invasion continue to bite. In a statement, the company said it had made the decision because of "potential risks associated with trading material with Russia, including the sanctions imposed by the EU and US." "Volvo Cars will not deliver any cars to the Russian market until further notice," it said. A Volvo spokesman said the carmaker exports vehicles to Russia from plants in Sweden, China and the United States. This came as Russia warned Sweden and Finland not to join NATO or risk facing “serious military-political consequences." Volvo sold around 9,000 cars in Russia in 2021, based on industry data. Earlier on Monday, RIA news agency reported Volkswagen had temporarily suspended deliveries of cars already in Russia to local dealerships, citing a company statement. VW had no immediate comment when contacted by Reuters. VW previously said it would halt production for a few days this week at two German factories after a delay in getting parts made in Ukraine. Daimler Truck said on Monday it would freeze its business activities in Russia with immediate effect, including its cooperation with Russian truck maker Kamaz. Mercedes-Benz Group is also looking into legal options to divest its 15% stake in Kamaz as quickly as possible, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported. A Mercedes spokesperson told Reuters business activities would have to be re-evaluated in light of the current events. Mercedes-Benz Group, formerly Daimler AG, was the parent company of Daimler Truck before the truck maker was spun off.
2015 Volkswagen Touareg [w/video]
Fri, Dec 5 2014The second-generation Volkswagen Touareg has been in production since 2010, and is therefore staring down the last part of its model cycle. To keep buyers interested, the company has undertaken a refresh of its upscale midsize SUV. As is typical of these things, the changes include some exterior and interior rejuvenation, as well as increased content levels and a slight uptick in price. The basics of the styling changes are pretty straightforward. The 2015 Touareg can be pretty easily spotted versus the outgoing model by way of its four-bar chrome grille, a cleaner headlight design, bigger VW badge and a completely new lower front clip. (I got one photo of the old and new models side-by-side for my Twitter followers before we rolled out on the drive.) There's also a thin strip of chrome that runs around the bodywork, standard LED taillights and a selection of three new wheel styles and five new paint colors. Inside, I found it harder to spot the changes, old to new. The Touareg's switchgear has been updated and there's a new frame for the infotainment display, but there's no piece that stands out and says "new model year!" Powertrains and mechanical bits all carryover from the 2014 Touareg, too. But there were a few functional changes to the vehicle, primarily in the new Driver's Assistance Package, for me to take note of as I took a lap of my favorite Ann Arbor, MI driving route. Drive Notes Let me start with the newest news then, the Driver Assistance pack. Volkswagen will sell you this suite of safety gear on either the mid-level Lux or the top-end Executive trims, for $2,500. The package included adaptive cruse cruise control, "Front Assist" for emergency braking situations, lane-keep assist and blind spot monitoring. If the contents of that package don't strike you as revolutionary, you're not alone. Some or all of the technologies that are new to the Touareg have been around other showrooms – and other VW family products – for quite a while. Still, they're nice to have as options. All of the driver assistance features that I was able to test worked as advertised, too. The adaptive cruise uses cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors, so it isn't likely to be impacted by inclement weather, which is nice. I also appreciate that the lane-keep assist (which offers the driver a haptic buzz to the steering wheel when straying out of the lane) can be turned off, or turned down in terms of intensity and reaction time.
