I am starting another project, so I am reluctantly selling my Subaru powered westy. This westy is very reliable, powerful, and a blast to drive with the Subaru powertrain. This van now drives like a modern car. Here is a list of the good and bad. GOOD: -1994 EJ22 2.2 liter Subaru boxer engine. Engine had 160K on it when installed, but had a complete reseal with new water pump, head gaskets, timing belt, gaskets, etc. at 150K. I used the complete smallcar.com conversion kit to install it including the full stainless steel exhaust, high clearance oilpan, flexible dipstick, and quiet power steering lines. -Freshly rebuilt auto transmission using the complete German Transaxle premium kit with new torque converter. I also added an aftermarket transmission cooler and rebuilt the cv axles at the time of the engine swap. -Installed new gas tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, and tank reseal kit. -Van has power steering and it is very tight. -I added an auxiliary battery setup with a yandina battery isolater and a blue seas fuse panel. All interior lights have been converted to LED and are wired to aux battery as is 12V outlets. I will be keeping the battery itself though. -New Polk Audio speakers in stock locations and aux cord added to CD player -New skylight and poptop seals -Fairly new shocks -All factory curtains, rear table, fridge, stove, sink, swiveling seats, cabinets, and camper misc are there. Stove works great. Sink pump turns on, but ive never used it. Fridge Condensor gets cold, but Ive also never used it. -New ignition switch and key tumbler -Higher power Porsche starter to spin Subaru engine quickly BAD: -Very minor seam surface rust forming. Seam rust is very common on the Vanagons and is usually much worse than this. There are no rust holse or pitting, and it would just take a bit of sanding and touch up paint to fix. -Missing sliding door interior panel. I have the original panel but it needs repair. There are many vendors that sell replacement panels. -Drivers seat worn as seen in pictures. I have a pair of blue Eurovan seats that I can include in sale if wanted. I have modified one of the Eurovan seats to slide into the existing seat tracks. -Bug screen in pop top canvas is torn. But the canvas is in good shape overall. -Tiny ding in rear quarter panel as shown in the pictures -Carpet has some stains, but is complete. -Camper hookup covers could use replacing. These can also be bought through many vendors. -The Mercedes 16" wheels only come with the van if I meet my Buy It Now price. If not, the van will come with the stock 14" wheels and hubcaps. Both sets of wheels have good tires. The 16" wheels make a huge difference in the way the van drives though. -I will be keeping the roof rack, but leave the clamp feet attached to the roof. This van is ready to go anywhere and it wont leave you stranded with the new powertrain. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks |

Volkswagen Motorsport cranks out Golf touring car
Fri, Jul 10 2015Just when you thought Volkswagen had done all the hot Golfs we could handle, its motorsports division has come out with an even hotter one. This racing version is built to compete in the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) across Europe and Asia, and certainly looks the part. Based on the production Golf hatchback we all know, the TCR competition version promises to be to circuit-based touring car racing what the Polo R WRC is to the rally stage. And that little pocket rocket has been positively dominating the World Rally Championship. Developed in conjunction with Seat's racing department and Liqui Moly Team Engstler, the Golf touring car packs the 2.0-liter turbo four from the Golf R. Only instead of 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque in the production version, it's been tuned to channel 330 hp and 302 lb-ft to the front wheels (instead of all four) through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It rides on 18-inch alloys fitted to a track widened by nearly a foot and a half, along with a competition-spec aero kit to keep it glued to the tarmac and a stripped-out cockpit. Though the 2015 TCR series is already under way, a pair of these racing Golfs will be entered in the upcoming round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, before the series heads off to Singapore (in support of the F1 grand prix there) and Thailand ahead of the final round in Macau. If everything goes well, customer teams will be able to pick these up and enter them in next year's championship. Volkswagen develops new Golf for the racetrack - Concept car for customer racing, in line with new TCR regulations - Production-based touring car with 330 hp, front-wheel drive and six-speed DSG gearbox - First competitive test this weekend in Spielberg (A) Wolfsburg (09 July 2015). A new Golf for the racetrack: Volkswagen Motorsport is developing its first racing car based on the seventh generation Golf. The production-based, 330-hp concept car is assembled in accordance with TCR regulations and is intended to help Volkswagen evaluate a potential customer racing programme from the 2016 season onwards. In order to accelerate the development of the car, the new Golf will be tested under competitive conditions between now and the end of the season: as cooperation partner, the Liqui Moly Team Engstler will run two cars at the eighth round of the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (A).
Final Volkswagen Eos to leave the plant in May
Tue, Feb 24 2015Volkswagen has made no secret of its plans to wind down production of the Eos hardtop convertible, and the automaker has already celebrated the model's retirement in the US with the Final Edition (pictured above). However, the company now has an actual time for that end to come. The final Eos rolls off the line from the VW factory in Portugal in May, according to Germany's Automobilwoche, and European customers have until March 27 to get any final orders in. The company has no plans to offer a successor, it previously indicated. After about nine years of production and some 230,000 made, the Eos proved to be a success, at least in its home market of Germany. A VW spokesperson told Automobilwoche it was the country's bestselling hardtop convertible at one point, but customer preferences have changed toward preferring soft-top models. That switch spelled doom for the Eos. Drivers who want some wind in their hair still have some choices in the VW lineup. The Beetle Convertible remains on sale in the US, and Europeans also get the droptop Golf. Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept previews new midsize CUV... again
Sun, Jan 11 2015Volkswagen has taken a big step towards the long-awaited second model to be built at its Chattanooga, TN factory, introducing the two-row Cross Coupe GTE Concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The relatively handsome two-row crossover borrows its basic styling language from the CrossBlue Concept that launched at the 2013 Detroit show (that we later had a brief chance to drive), and the CrossBlue Coupe from that year's Shanghai Motor Show. To be entirely frank, it just looks like a much more production-ready version of the Shanghai concept. The more aggressive elements of that model, like its rear taillights, rounded wheel arches, and aggressive front and rear fascias, have been toned down considerably. In other words, this concept almost wouldn't look out of place on the average road. Changes in the cabin are similarly minor, with the same basic design as the CrossBlue, complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. While it's still quite clearly a concept car interior, it's not hard to imagine VW transitioning this cockpit into a production model. Riding atop the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture – making it a relative, albeit distant, of cars like the VW Golf, Audi TT and the Euro-market Passat – the Cross Coupe GTE is motivated by a 3.6-liter VR6 that's been mated to not one, but two electric motors (one on each axle). The gas engine offers up 276 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the front axle's electric motor generates 54 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, and the rear can deliver a more robust 114 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. That cacophony can be easily boiled down to this: the Cross Coupe GTE has a total system output of 355 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough to get the five-seater to 60 miles per hour in six seconds, on to a top speed of 130 miles per hour. As a plug-in hybrid, though, there's more to the Cross Coupe GTE then just its power output. Range plays a big role, and in that regard, this concept is fairly average. It can cover 20 miles when its 14.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery is charged up. Beyond that, the drivetrain can be set to a number of modes to optimize the behavior of plug-in-hybrid powertrain. In E-Mode, which can be locked in via a battery hold/battery charge mode, all 20 miles of range are available, although the Cross Coupe's driver will only have the 114-hp rear axle electric motor to work with.
