You're bidding on a: Restored 1984 VW Wolfsburg Edition Vanagon (scroll down for pictures) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - You're looking at a rare, professionally restored 1984 Wolfsburg "Westy" featuring the popular 1.9L water cooled engine. This Wolfsburg is absolutely immaculate and no expense was spared in ensuring a full restoration. We started with a rust free body, fixed any small dents, and repainted to "factory condition" to ensure a glossy shine. It is difficult to find a restored Wolfsburg because it is a lot of extra labor and material expense to perform the factory two tone paint job. In fact, I have yet to see a properly restored Wolfsburg on eBay (besides this one, of course)! We then replaced many of the components with brand new parts from GoWesty and other suppliers including a brand new pop top canvas, chrome bumpers, bumper end caps, hub caps, bumper impact strips, seals, antenna, mirrors, light housings, vents, wiper blades, and so much more (for a full list of replaced parts scroll down). We left the original Wolfsburg emblems on (even though they are a bit worn to say the least), because they are nearly impossible to find and we felt it showed the vehicles heritage and "antiqueness". All in all, we spent an estimated $3,000 to $4,000 in exterior parts and restoration materials with receipts to prove it, and this estimate excludes labor. We also cleaned out the interior and added an aftermarket CD player, $250 Lloyd Rubbertite mats throughout, a matching dash cover, and repainted and restored any old or worn looking parts such as handles. Overall, the interior is probably a 8/10 for its age with a few minor imperfections such as small scratches in the dash paint, cracks in the dashboard, and a tear in the drivers seat. The backseat looks like it was never sat in. All interior components such as various switches, stove, speakers, and lights appear to be working and functioning correctly. This beautiful Wolfsburg was a special edition Vanagon that was the very first Westy to offer air conditioning. Trust me, on a hot summer day you'll be happy you chose a Wolfsburg edition! In addition to the countless cosmetic repairs and components that were replaced, we performed a thorough inspection of the mechanics of the vehicle to ensure a reliable worry-free ride. We performed a tune up, oil change, coolant flush and fill, wheel alignment, fixed an idling issue, (I have the original heads if you'd like to see them), and fixed a few small odds and ends to get it running like new. The engine was also rebuilt by the previous owner, who gave us the original heads and parts in a separate box. We inspected his work and took it for several test trips and it seems to be running very well. The engine has a solid, steady idle and plenty of power to ensure an enjoyable ride on any fun filled trip! We also replaced the shifter guide bushings and made some adjustments to improve the shifting pattern and eliminate slop. The vehicle also drives straight and has plenty of tread left on all four tires (we meant to take pictures of these, but the location we decided to take pictures at was a bit too muddy...oops). Overall, this is a very nice camper with some modern amenities that should make a great vacationing vehicle for a family or group of friends. If you have any questions concerning the vehicle, please don't hesitate to contact us via eBay and we will respond as soon as possible. Happy bidding! I'm willing to work with the buyer to arrange shipping out of the state if you live outside of Michigan, but it will be at buyers expense and the buyers responsibility. If you live in or near Michigan your more then welcome to come see the van before purchasing and you can drive it home if you'd prefer. I'm flexible so contact me if you have any questions regarding shipping arrangements. |

2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR is black and yellow, black and yellow
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Way back in 1973, Volkswagen decided it was high time to take the loveable air-cooled Bug racing. No, it wasn't painted in Herbie colors - Volkswagen called its sport-tuned machine the Beetle GSR, "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer." Hence, the somewhat shocking paint scheme.
VW is bringing its sporty black and yellow Beetle back for 2014, and you can see live photos of it above. It's got a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood (that'd be the hood up front, unlike the car's forebear), and a six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission sends those ponies to the front wheels. Note that this car's output is up 10 horses on other turbo VWs, and the Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo for 2013. The 0-60 run takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 130 miles per hour.
Besides the in-your-face black and yellow paint, the GSR is outfitted with a large rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels shod with 235/40 tires. The bee-like hue carries over inside, with yellow stitching on black leather. Only 3,500 will be produced, each with its own unique plaque. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you're free to read through the press release below all the same.
VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga
Fri, 10 Jan 2014Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
VW's Winterkorn tells 20,000 staffers of big cost-cutting plans
Thu, 24 Jul 2014During a gathering of 20,000 Volkswagen Group employees at company headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany on Wednesday, CEO Martin Winterkorn dropped a bombshell. The boss stated that the automaker isn't operating efficiently enough and admitted the company needs to radically start cutting back to raise its profit margins. To right the ship, Winterkorn has proposed killing off less profitable models and spending less on research and development.
According to Reuters, Winterkorn wants to raise the VW brand's profit margin from about 2.9 percent in 2013 to a target of 6 percent. To make that possible, his plan amounts to increasing cost cutting until Volkswagen reaches about 5 billion euros ($6.7 billion) per year to get things back in order. "Over the short-term, we urgently need more efficiency and higher profit," the CEO said during his speech, according to Reuters.
However, Winterkorn can't make these decisions unilaterally. Volkswagen's works council also has a seat on the supervisory board to represent laborers, and it isn't likely to take the proposed cuts sitting down.
