I am selling my 1975 Volkswagen Riviera Camper Bus. I have personally owned this bus for twenty plus years. It has always been garaged and well maintained. I live in the high desert of Oregon which only gets 9-11 inches of rain averaged per year. It has an original 1800 cc fuel injected motor (VW first year of EFI for the bus). The odometer shows 83,850. Probably 183,850. I have put 50,000 plus miles on since owning it. It has been repainted the original orange and white and was reupholstered 10 years ago. I had them wrap the foam from the cushions in waterproof material and the upholstery is zippered to be able to remove the foam and clean the upholstery if needed. I had a new upgraded 4 speed manual transmission installed professionally at the beginning of the year at a cost of $2000 plus. Since my ownership of this van I have also had the engine professionally rebuilt. There are zero mechanical issues that I am aware of. This bus starts and runs like a new 2013 VW. All the camping equipment works great. The sink has an electrical pump or can be done manually as well. The refrigerator is an icebox and is well insulated. Propane is piped under the jump seat for easy cook top use. Headliner is impeccable, and so is the dashboard. Pop top fiberglass is excellent, as well as the canvas and screens. Minor tears in the screens have been patched. The tent that connects to the bus was included when I purchased the van and comes with the instructions. This tent can be a stand alone tent, but was made to fit right along side the bus and attaches to the bus when the side slider door is open. Like the Riviera pop top both the canvas and screens of the tent are in excellent condition. The bus has never been in an accident as far as I am aware of. The body is extremely straight and well preserved. The few issues the bus has are as follows. Very very small oil leak. I have yet to replace the original captains chairs. There are a few lighter scratches on the exterior paint. The exterior body is a true survivor with very minimal surface rust. It has one small issue of bubbling under the rear bumper. Floor pans are good with some surface rust and a very small issue on the drivers side floor pan. In over twenty years this bus has only let me down once when the original transmission failed. It has been a great reliable van for myself and my family, in both transportation and camping. I would not hesitate to drive it across the country. I always get tons of compliments of those passing by and will hate to see it go. Overall this Volkswagen is a 9+ out of 10. Also included are 4 like hanhook studded snow tires mounted on rims. Happy bidding!!!!

VW to relax ambitious US sales targets?
Fri, 16 May 2014The Volkswagen brand sold 407,704 cars last year, a 6.95-percent decline compared to 2012, and it's down a further 8.36 percent through the end of April 2014 compared to this time last year. In order to to put the sales football between its Strategy 2018 goal posts, the brand would need to add 100,000 more sales every year to achieve the lofty 800,000-unit target. Coming to grips with how unreasonable that is, VW US CEO Michael Horn has said, "For now, we have to have realistic targets."
The reasons for the brand's slow-down are imprecise, but lots of folks are throwing lots of reasons around. Last November, VW Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech told Bloomberg, "We understand Europe, we understand China and we understand Brazil, [but] we only understand the US to a certain degree so far." Analysts say the brand hasn't had midsize and compact SUV offerings, especially an overdue retail version of the CrossBlue, and the ones it does have are priced too high for their segments. It "didn't introduce enough new engines, or alternative technologies or model variants" for the Passat and Jetta. It devoted so many resources to China that the US market suffered. It was being outspent two-to-one on advertising by competitors. Its J.D. Power dependability ratings aren't high enough to overcome its past. It "has never really taken the US customer seriously." And so on.
There's still no official admission of defeat concerning the target, but reading between the lines there are some VW execs that appear to accept it won't happen short of some deus ex machina. Still,
Volkswagen Jetta getting new 1.4L turbo four
Tue, Aug 4 2015In yet another example of engine downsizing, Volkswagen has announced it is slotting a new 1.4-liter turbo four into the Jetta. The smaller, forced-induction engine will replace the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four in the Jetta S and the 1.8-liter turbo four in the Jetta SE, bringing with it direct injection and improved fuel economy. The 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is from the EA211 family. It's made of aluminum and features a compact single-scroll compressor, an intercooler integrated into the injection-molded induction pipe, exhaust manifold integrated into the head, variable intake and exhaust valve timing, direct fuel injection, dual overhead cams driven by a toothed belt, and a 10.0:1 compression ratio. All that adds up to 150 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, mated in the Jetta to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy figures have yet to be certified, but are projected to come in at around 39 miles per gallon on the highway with the automatic, representing 13- and 7-percent improvements over the units it replaces. The EA211 is Volkswagen's new global small gasoline engine family, manufactured principally by Skoda in the Czech Republic. It's set to replace the old EA111 series, offering higher efficiency in a more compact and adaptable package. The Jetta Hybrid already uses essentially the same engine paired with an electric motor, and is being adapted to three-cylinder formats as well. INTRODUCTION OF NEW 1.4T ENGINE REINFORCES VOLKSWAGEN'S LEADERSHIP IN TURBOCHARGED, DIRECT INJECTION TECHNOLOGY Aug 4, 2015 Fitment of EA211 engine in Jetta models extends implementation of intelligent downsizing to 97 percent of Volkswagen vehicles sold in the U.S. market Traverse City, MI Volkswagen pioneered the use of small displacement; highly efficient turbocharged and direct-injection engines in the U.S. Volkswagen first used this combination of turbocharging and direct injection in this market in its TDIĀ® Clean Diesel engines in the Passat in 1996 and extended it into the gasoline field in the 2006 Jetta GLI and GTI models. Since then, the Volkswagen EA888 four-cylinder engine has set the benchmark for small-displacement turbocharged engines, beginning with the 2009 CC, while the EA288 TDI has set the standard for diesel engines in the North American market since it first appeared in the 2009 Jetta TDI Clean Diesel.
Volkswagen Touareg hybrid axed for 2016
Fri, Aug 7 2015Volkswagen is axing the Touareg hybrid for the 2016 model year. At a starting price of $67,905 (after $910 destination), the 2015 version sat at the top of the Touareg range, but it didn't offer significantly improved fuel economy for the extra money. The hybrid was only three miles per gallon city and one mpg highway better than the base V6. Another hurdle for potential buyers: the entry-level diesel had even better highway mileage and cost over $14,000 less. Earlier this year, Nissan made a similar decision to scrap the Pathfinder hybrid, and the future for the QX60 hybrid is murky. Volkswagen has a few other adjustments in store for the 2016 Touareg. The biggest change is that the whole lineup sees about $2,000 sliced off the price. According to Car and Driver, the adjustment knocks $2,090 off the base price to bring things to $42,705. In addition, the Lux and Executive trims now get standard 14-way power adjustable and ventilated seats, and the two of them are also offered with new, 21-inch wheels. The Executive also now gets power adjustment on the steering column and a suite of safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
