Here is my 1973 VW Bus. I've owned the bus for about two and a half years. It was previously sitting in the California desert with no drivetrain for a number of years. I've spent the last year rebuilding the mechanics of the bus to make it a daily driver.Bus is still wearing its original paint and shows its 40 years with lots of dings and scratches and dents, but also lots of character and still holds a shine. The bus runs and drives excellent. I unfortunately have to sell it due to financial reasons. The following is a list of all the things I've done and either rebuilt or replaced with new. For more pictures including some from when I first got it and during the rebuilding click here----->
pictures
The Good:
As there was no engine or trans when I got it I've installed a rebuilt 2.0 liter engine from a 82 Vanagon (has more power than the stock 1.7 and plenty of torque). Engine has less than 500 miles on it.
Brand new dual carbs .
New alternator
New belt, hoses, plugs, wires, coil, points, cap, engine seal.
New clutch and pressure plate/throw out bearing
T-stat and flaps in good working order (alot of the times people eliminate them).
Electric fuel pump.
Fuel tank has been acid washed and internally coated with Eastwoods tank sealer, has new internal filter and outlet pipe.
New Porsche 924 CV joints (allows for greater angle without fouling).
All New brakes. Master, wheel cylinders, rebuilt calipers, turned rotors, brake hoses new, pads and shoes replaced.
New ball joints.
New steering dampener and drag link.
New shocks front and back.
New throttle and clutch cables
Throttle pedal assembly rebuilt with new pedal and down rod.
Brand new 16" wheels and new   215/65R16 General Grabber All Terrain Tires
New steering wheel and adaptor (aftermarket as the stock wheel was shot and I like the smaller wheel. I have no trouble steering even at a stand still. I'll include the stock wheel if desired but it is in poor shape)
Front kick panels and rear cargo area panels replaced.
New seat stand rubber mats.
All new lenses, rear light assemblies, marker lights, wipers, front badge, mirrors and antenna.
All window rubber replaced with new Cal-look (trim less) style.
Rusted battery tray cut out and new one welded in place. Plus new battery hold down (baja bug style holder)

I'm sure there is a ton of little things I've done and gone through please look at all the pictures to see.

The Bad,
The interior is tired, headliner needs to be replaced has rips all over the place, though I did install New visors.
Door panels are original but in poor shape.
There is some small rust holes in front of both seat stands. The rust has been treated and sealed but the holes remain (see photos).
Also some rust is forming under the windshield rubber. (I treated it when I replaced the rubber there were no holes but some pits)
The windshield is probably original and has scratches from the wipers and also has a bunch of tiny air bubbles in it from were its delaminating.  I wanted to replace along with the headliner but funds didnt allow.
The heater is currently not working.
The paint is original and I love it as it has tons of character. I never intended on painting it but to drive it daily and add to its charm. If your looking for a show worthy bus than this is not for you unless you want to invest in paint and interior.
The trans is strong, shifts well pulls hard but is a little whiny in forth. Its a 002.
Somebody during its life installed dual CB antennas and the holes can be seen on either side of the engine compartment. Also it has a period correct 8 track radio but it doesn't seem to work

I'm sure i'm missing things so please ask questions, I will post the answers for all to see.

I'm selling this bus in AS-IS condition with no warranty given or implied. If you have questions please ask before bidding.
$500 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit due and end of auction to keep the time wasters away. The balance can be paid in either cash in person or by wired bank transfer or certified bank check (in USA only)

I am willing to help with transporting this to the port of Los Angeles or Long Beach if your an overseas buyer and have to ship it. All SHIPPING arrangements and expense are YOUR responsibility.

Weekly Recap: Diesel scandal continues to fuel VW's woes

Sat, Oct 3 2015

Volkswagen's woes continued this week when it was delisted from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and stripped of awards. Senators are also lining up to advocate for criminal and civil action against the automaker, and its consumer reputation is in tatters. Put simply, it's been another rough period for VW. Despite this, the company eked out a sales gain of less than one percent in September, though that was well behind the overall market's performance. Sister brand Audi, which sells a diesel A3, was less affected, posting a 16-percent gain in September. Revelations that Volkswagen rigged millions of diesel-powered cars around the world didn't surface until September 18, so the full sales impact of the ongoing scandal won't likely be felt until October. Meanwhile, VW's image continues to take a beating, and an AutoPacific survey found only one in 14 vehicle owners have a positive opinion of the company. Before the scandal broke, three-quarters of respondents had a positive view of VW. The survey also found 64 percent don't trust Volkswagen, though the same number believe other companies are or may also be using cheating devices to pass emissions tests. "The reputation of diesels has been severely damaged, at least for the short term," Ed Kim, AutoPacific's vice president of industry analysis, said in a statement. Despite the lingering malaise, experts believe VW will recover, just as Toyota and General Motors eventually emerged from their own high-profile controversies. "Consumers have proven through numerous recalls that they are resilient and quickly return to their buying habits," Kim said. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Mazda to reveal sports car concept in Tokyo Mazda will bring a curvy sports car concept to the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The automaker is being especially coy with the details, only releasing the dark teaser shot that you see to the right and a cryptic statement that suggests the concept "condense[s] Mazda's entire history of sports-car development into a single model." Immediately, speculation abounded this is an RX-7 and RX-8 successor, though Mazda didn't specify what engine the concept will have. Reportedly, the company is still working on rotary engines. Mazda will have a Cosmo Sport 110S on its stand in Tokyo, which pioneered rotary technology in 1967. Read into that what you will. California orders VW Group to fix 15,000 3.0L diesel vehicles

Wed, Nov 25 2015

The California Air Resources Board has ordered Volkswagen to come up with a plan for repairing approximately 15,000 cars sold in the state that contain illegal software that may circumvent emissions testing. In a letter sent to Volkswagen Group of America and several company brands, CARB's chief emissions officer says the company has 45 business days to submit a recall plan that will fix affected Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche models equipped with 3.0-liter diesel engines sold in the state since 2009. "We expect full cooperation in this investigation so this issue can be addressed expeditiously and appropriately," wrote Annette Herbert, chief of emissions compliance. The violations first surfaced in a meeting last week between California regulatory officials and Audi executives. In that meeting, Audi admitted certain versions of A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 models contained three previously undisclosed auxiliary emissions control devices. An auxiliary device is not necessarily the same as a defeat device that intentionally cheats on emissions testing, but Audi and other affected brands hadn't disclosed the existence of the AECDs, which is a violation of the state's health and safety code. Had they been disclosed prior to vehicle certification, there's a possibility CARB may have approved use of the devices. In a statement Wednesday, CARB did not elaborate on whether it considered the three devices mere AECDs or defeat devices. When Volkswagen submits its plan to fix the cars, CARB says it must include an assessment of how the repairs will affect fuel economy, performance, drivability, and the safety of each vehicle. The 15,000 cars affected in California are part of roughly 85,000 nationwide which contain the affected 3.0-liter engines. The US Environmental Protection Agency may soon address how it expects Volkswagen to fix the remaining cars. "EPA and CARB are working closely and continue to investigate following the admission by Volkswagen that the issues EPA identified in the November 2nd NOV (Notice of Violations) extend to all 3.0-liter diesel Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche vehicles," an agency spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday. "EPA will take all appropriate enforcement action." The 3.0-liter developments, of course, come on top of the company's September admission that 482,000 diesels equipped with 2.0-liter engines contain defeat devices that detect emissions testing and alter the cars' performance.
