1973 "rare" Voltswagen Full Panel Bus With No Rear Window on 2040-cars

You are bidding on a friend's extremely rare 1973 Voltswagen full panel bus, factory built in Germany, with a rear decklid with no rear window. Vehicle was built by Voltswagen to be used as a utility truck for a German volunteer fire department, and was equipped to tow pumping equipment. It was never available for purchase in the US, but was bought in Canada then sold to current owner in the US. Metal dash board is not standard for this year, and steel dash was only available in Germany for this year. Vehicle is equiped with a 1600cc motor that has had the pistons replaced, cylinders, crank bearings, new cam and cam bearings, new oil pump, new Kadron dual carbs, header exhaust, new generator, and a new starter. Has new front brake calipers, rotors and pads.Front seats have been recovered, has had new door seal installed on the passenger side front door , new seal for the drivers door is in the bus. There is also a box(see photo) of spare parts that are included with sale. Bus is currently registered in the state of New Hampshire and is sold with a clear title from that state. This is a extremely rare vehicle, in excellent condition, that is an incredible opportunity to own for a true Voltswagen collector. VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation
Tue, 11 Nov 2014After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.

As you can see, several models are available with performance upgrades. Besides the Jeep Cherokee's available V6, all are more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The exception to this would be the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape, as their 1.5-liter turbo engines don't prioritize performance. Instead, they serve as overall upgrades to the base naturally aspirated engines standard on only their base trim levels (CR-V LX and Escape S).
NA auto output to reach 11-year peak
Thu, 13 Jun 2013According to Automotive News, automakers are expected to manufacture 16 million light vehicles in North America in 2013. That's up 500,000 units from last year and marks the largest number since 2002. The prediction comes courtesy of LMC Automotive and IHS Automotive, which point to the improving US economy as a bellwether for total production. LMC Automotive says North America will produce 16 million vehicles while IHS has a slightly more optimistic forecast of 16.1 million units. A total of seven automakers are slated to increase production on the continent this year. Nissan is set to see the largest jump at 20 percent over last year.
Volkswagen, meanwhile, is one of the only manufacturers predicted to scale back production. Analysts expect the German company's output to fall by 23 percent to 170,000 units, thanks in part to slow demand for the Volkswagen Passat and Jetta.
