1972 Vw Bus, "v Doob", Old-school Party Wagon, Green Shag + White Pleather! on 2040-cars
Cleveland, Ohio, United States
This is a re-list of my beloved VW, Bus, "V DOOB". The original listing ran in June 2013. Bidding was brisk, but the high bidder reneged within hours of winning the auction. This is a classic, collectible vehicle and you will NOT get financed through eBay Auto Financing. Please don't bid if you can't afford it.
**This VW Bus is only being auctioned through this eBay listing -nowhere else on the internet or in print. If you see pictures or any other listings for this vehicle outside of this eBay listing, it is a scam!** Up for sale is my 1972 Volkswagen Bus, "V DOOB". Used exclusively as an occasional weekend-jaunter and summer concert-wagon since I purchased her in 2011. There is an electric choke, but she still likes warm weather more than cold. Engine rebuilt (both top & bottom end) in 2007. Approx. 2200 miles driven since rebuild. New Weber progressive carb setup with electric choke, new SVDA distributor, all heater tubes & flaps work (she'll defrost the front window & give you solid front heat!!) all engine tin intact, nice non-rusty heater boxes, H4 headlamp upgrade (bright lights!), professionally powder-coated rims with Hankook RA08 tires (plus a fifth brand-new powdercoated rim with matching brand-new Hankook RA08 tire mounted), professional alignment, new Koni rear shocks, new drive axles, new brake lines all around, new brakes, new master cylinder, rebuilt brake booster, working original horn, new side windows & seals, all wiring is solid with soldered connections, all relays intact & functioning, all lights & blinkers work, new fuse box & fuses, gas tank removed cleaned & reinstalled, very tight shifting and stays solid in ALL gears, 'Stinger' exhaust is sealed & flowing smoothly, new OEM gas cap. Needs a new engine temperature sending unit - not a big deal, but engine temperature gauge under-dash bounces a little. Frame is perfectly straight and not rusty. This bus does NOT leak oil, nor burn oil WHATSOEVER! Underside of engine is clean, clean, clean. I've been using K&N racing filters and AmSoil synthetic oil (or sometimes RedLine synthetic) since purchasing the bus. Manual trans gear oil was refreshed & refilled in 2011 - NOT synthetic because synthetic detergents may damage old internal trans parts. This bus is built for long road-trips and weekend festival fun. I have no worries taking her 1000+miles for a trip. Compression-tested and approved!! The interior was NOT my doing, but a mid-90's 'party bus' job. The 1200Watt amp works, but is disconnected. Polk Audio speakers are fully functioning, but disconnected. Yes, that's a party bar with shotglass-holding inserts in the rear. Yes, those are white Pleather bench seats (ouch!). Yes, that's GREEN SHAG CARPET. There is a non-working flatscreen TV mounted to the back of the passenger seat - kinda ghetto, in my opinion. The stereo head unit in the dash is disconnected. Yes, that's a hardwood floor and door panels, but it needs to go eventually. There is a little bondo work on the passenger rear corner. The only major rust is the picture you see of the passenger-side floor pan - yes, it's a hole in the passenger floor. What about the VW emblem for the front? There was no emblem on the bus when I purchased it, but as noted below, the winning bidder will receive an OEM, chrome-plated VW emblem, which I secured from an eBay auction (and matching mounting clips/inserts). Unfortunately, whoever removed the original emblem drilled out the four mounting holes and they are now too large for the mounting clips to slide tightly in. To properly attach & align your OEM VW emblem, those four holes must be spot-welded, then re-measured and re-drilled. Receipts will be provided for all work and every piece listed above. In addition, winning bidder will receive all parts shown in last two photos from this listing, listed henceforth: Parts Picture 1: Clockwise from top-center: Old 009 distributor, front air vent piece, dash air vent, extra engine compartment blower fan, extra hardware for powder-coated front & rear license plate holders, NEW accelerator cable for '68 bus (211 721 555D, received in error), NEW clutch pedal linkage, TWO NEW clutch cables (211 721 335J), NEW accelerator cable for '72 bus (211 721 555J), NEW rear inner wheel bearings (211 501 287, set of two), right-side 'warm air pipe' (runs from engine blower hose through engine tin & down into heater box, then forward through heat flaps toward front of bus), Haynes Manual #226 (VW Transporter 1700/1800/2000 1972-1979), extra linkage parts for new Weber Progressive carb. In the Middle: VW Emblem Clips (211 853 614, set of four clips), Original VW front emblem with pins intact, one extra ORIGINAL VW key blank. Parts Picture 2: K&N Racing oil filter, oil screen gasket set & drain plug washer, extra distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, one gallon AmSoil 15W50 racing oil. Buyer is solely responsible for arranging pickup/transport of vehicle to desired location, and paying for said transport and all associated fees, taxes, duties, etc. I may be able to assist buyer in securing professional transport, if such assistance is requested. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions, or requests for further pictures or whatnot. |

Recharge Wrap-Up: Tesla, CarCharging and the EPA
Sat, Aug 23 2014Credit Suisse analysts are bullish on Tesla. The group gives the electric car company's stock an "outperform" rating with a target price of $325. For its continued success, Credit Suisse cites the vehicles' superior technology, in turn offering more torque, roominess and reliability. Says analyst Dan Galves said of Tesla's competition with ICEs, "If Tesla can get to cost-parity with Internal Combustion vehicles and still offer $1,400 to $2,500 per year fuel savings to the consumer, it won't be a fair fight." Read more at Yahoo Finance or at Business Insider. In other Tesla news, Tesla Model S owners will be able to unlock and start their car using an iPhone. The Tesla app is adding this functionality soon, perhaps with the update to iOS 8. It's not yet clear how this function will work, but it's one more innovative convenience feature that Model S owners can enjoy. That means drivers will have less to carry in their pockets or purses when they go for a drive. Read more at 9 to 5 Mac. CarCharging Group has remotely lowered the amperage on some of its residential users' Blink charging stations to 24 amps. This will slow down the charging time for affected customers with 6.6-kilowatt charging by about 15 percent. The company cited safety reasons for the move, with concerns about overheating. The amperage reduction is temporary, until CarCharging is able to provide replacement parts for the chargers. Some are concerned about the delayed action, as well as the fact that the reduction was handled without owner permission. Read more at Plugin Cars. Ford is halting test drives and sales of certain C-Max hybrid and Focus models due to a safety concern. Cars made during a single week this month at a Michigan factory may not have enough ball bearings in the steering gear assembly, which could lead to loss of control. None of the affected cars have been sold, Ford says, and about 50 units are currently at dealerships. Just over 600 will need to be recalled. Dealerships have been notified of the problem. Read more at Reuters and the The Detroit News. A new EPA report shows that urban air in the US is becoming less toxic since the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. The report shows a 66-percent reduction in benzene, almost 60 percent reduction in mercury from man-made sources, 84 percent less lead and more.
Autoweek dubs GMC Canyon, VW GTI its 2015 'Best of the Best'
Wed, Dec 17 2014For kids around the globe, tis the season for Santa, reindeer and presents. For the automotive industry, the last quarter of each year is reserved for awards, whether they come from Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile, or yes, Autoblog. The latest to get released comes from our friends at Autoweek. The magazine has echoed other outlets, naming a Volkswagen hatchback and a small pickup from General Motors as its Best of the Best. Unlike Motor Trend, which handed out its golden calipers to the Chevrolet Colorado and Volkswagen Golf range, Autoweek doled out its awards to the Colorado's twin, the GMC Canyon, while singling out the hottest version of the Golf, the GTI. "This is the best hot-hatch on the American market – and it may be the best car you can buy for less than $30K," one AW staffer said in the publication's article on the feature. Other staffers praised the absolute value provided by the GTI and the overall fun factor. The Canyon, meanwhile, was saluted for being "the perfect size," not to mention its excellent build quality, feature-rich cabin and overall practicality. "It's truly a truck in the most honest sense of the word," Autoweek wrote of the Canyon. Scroll down for the full press release on the announcement from Autoweek, which includes comments from both Volkswagen and GMC. And then head over and read AW's full feature on the awards. Autoweek names Best of the Best/Car and Truck for 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI and GMC Canyon signal a strong year for design, performance and value DETROIT, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Autoweek named the Volkswagen Golf GTI as its Best of the Best/Car for 2015, beating a group of finalists that includes the Alfa Romeo 4C, Ford Mustang and Mercedes-Benz C-class; and the GMC Canyon as its Best of the Best/Truck for 2015, besting the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado, Lincoln MKC and Porsche Macan. Autoweek evaluates every new or significantly updated model throughout the year and begins to identify the standouts. Performance, economy, fit and finish, design, value, significance to the auto industry and personal taste all combine to define the Best of the Best. Four cars and four trucks make the grade, and Autoweek editors put them through rigorous road-handling tests at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. This is where a vehicle transcends the numbers and shows if design, performance and pure driving passion meld into an Autoweek Best of the Best pick.
