1968 Deluxe Walk Through VW Bus

Project - Not running - Engine is removed

M - Plate codes show a build date of 5/28/68 with paint colors L90D Pastel White upper and L555 Titan Red lower. Picked up by the first owner at the factory in Germany , meant for the US market.

The paint shows primer and original paint rub through in several areas , as pictured.

The body has typical non-structural surface rust in some exposed ares and is overall very solid , as pictured.

The right rear corner and adjacent battery tray are rusted through. The drivers floor and lower windshield frame also need attention , as pictured.

The rest of the bus , undercarriage , rockers , doors , drip rails , roof , are solid , as pictured.

The windshield is cracked. All the other glass is present and in good condition. The stainless vent frames are exceptionally nice , as pictured.

The deluxe trim is complete. The front emblem is MINT , as pictured.
(Note: The front emblem is not mounted to the bus. I think it's best done by the new owner at the time and method they choose)

The dash is uncut. All the seats are present , as pictured.

The front door panel handle cups , armrests , and vent ducts are included , as pictured . These "loose" items will be nicely boxed and placed inside the bus.

The engine was removed and disassembled for a rebuild. The engine case number is U0190875 ,, The Head numbers match 311 101 375 c ,, As far as I can tell , the engine  parts look to be in order . I don't see any broken parts or cracks or unusual wear. A machine shop will need to make a real assessment of the condition.
The pictured disassembled engine and related parts will be will be carefully boxed and placed inside the bus.

The transmission is complete and although it has been sitting for sometime now , It was working well at the time the engine was removed.

The brake pedal has lost pressure and will need to be sorted. The emergency brake works.

The steering is tight and the bus rolls freely.

I have been faced with the need to find another storage facility so I've reluctantly decided to list my bus for auction.

The bus is CA registered non-op with a clean CA title in my name.

This bus is truly a great investment opportunity for the right owner to get back on the road and enjoy or do a full restoration. The value of this first year production bay window deluxe bus is guaranteed to climb.

Pictures are worth thousand words , I have around 200 detailed pictures on Photobucket , Please look them over. All the pictures are recent . Everything pictured is included, nothing more, nothing less. The Photobucket link is http://s899.photobucket.com/user/306bullet/slideshow/1968%20VW%20Bus

I encourage potential bidders to see the bus in person if possible.

The bus is located in Orange CA 92867 ( near the 55 and 91 ) , a few miles from Disneyland

I'm happy to answer questions , If I'm unable to answer my phone I will call you back , Steve 714-454-5356

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon leaked ahead of official unveiling

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

Wagons ho! These three images of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Wagon have leaked online ahead of the car's official debut, which may very well be at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking over the photos doesn't really bring any surprises - after all, this is a VW Golf with a wagon rear end grafted on, or basically what we expect next Jetta SportWagen will be.
We can only share these three images at this time, but fret not, folks. There's little doubt that all the details and images will be flowing from Volkswagen in short order. In the meantime, click on the images above to view them in high resolution.

Volkswagen iBeetle gets integrated iPhone dock, little else

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Apple fans have been itching to see the tech giant flex the full muscle of its iOS operating system in an automotive infotainment system for years, which is why we turned all sorts of excited when we caught wind of the Volkswagen iBeetle. The machine is headed to the Shanghai Motor Show for a debut, and VW promised it would be one of the "first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple." Listen closely, and you can hear the contented sigh of a million wallets opening.
Go ahead and close those up, kids.
In reality, the iBeetle offers little more than a dash-mounted dock and a special app that shows a few vehicle functions, which is about as far from an infotainment revolution as you're likely to find. In fact, the setup is little more than a factory rehash of aftermarket items, and hardly worth a whole model debut at an international motor show. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Apple relishes in changing the shape and form of its darling handheld at every generation. Volkswagen better be prepared to keep pace with appropriate docking mechanisms for the upcoming iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, et al.
