Selling my very custom 66 13 window deluxe.

I purchased this bus nearly 5 years ago. It started out as a pretty straight but stripped canvas. No seats, no interior panels. Small dents and dings. Minor rust in the usual places. I did replace the passenger inner and outer rocker as well as the battery tray. It also has new jack points on the passenger side as well the outer 10 inches of the cargo floor. The lower 3 inches of the cargo doors were also replaced.
I then proceeded to entirely strip the underside to bare metal. All of which was coated with SIM Rust shield. After that, I stripped to bare metal the inside of the wheel wells and engine compartment. After 3 coats of epoxy primer, these areas were painted with single stage PPG Sea Blue.
Finally, the interior and exterior of the bus was stripped to bare metal. These areas were also hit with 3 coats of epoxy primer, 3 coats of two stage PPG Sea Blue / Cumulus White and 6 coats of clear.

Every nut and bolt was removed and refurbished or replaced in the build process. Every slightly worn part was replaced. Every piece of rubber/weatherstipping/felt is brand new. New E-brake cables, clutch cable, throttle cable, brake lines (soft and hard), brake shoes, master cylinder, brake cylinders, bearings. Optima Red Top battery.

Bus has been converted to 12 volt. Brand new wiring harness from front to back. 6 new pop out window frames, Safaris on the front. All windows open and close as they should as well as the totally refurbished vent windows.  Over $300 in stainless hardware and fasteners.  Completely refurbished and painted internals on the overhead vent that works flawlessly.  KCW 4inch narrowed adjustable front beam.  KCW prepared straight axle kit on the rear. No RGB's.

My intentions when building this bus were to give it an overall nautical theme. From the handmade surfboard armrests in the back, stainless boat bow rail fittings in the back, dock cleat door handles, and bamboo throughout, I feel like I accomplished my goal. I also never intended to have a trailer queen so some of the parts that had signs of wear still do. There are some scratches on the side windows, scuffs on the exterior trim, minor pitting on door handles and clock, etc. The rear seat is tan leather and is out of a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. Then, of course, is the elephant in the room. Yes, those are antique cast iron tractor seats. The factory seat brackets were gone so I decided to take this route. I figured if a farmer could sit on one of these for hours a day, so could I. I did make a custom hinge with a fully adjustable mono shock to compensate for the lack of cushion. I must say that anyone and everyone that doubted me changed their mind after going for a ride. They are actually very comfortable. The front seat belts are attached via a rigging anchor from an antique sailboat. As seen in the pictures, I cut out the spare wheel tub and fabricated a storage area above the engine compartment. Truth be told, I could sit and type for hours detailing every painstaking aspect of the build, however, I will let the pictures do the talking. Of course, the pictures don't quite capture the overall feel and detail that this guaranteed one of a kind bus deserves. She tracks down the road straight and draws a crowd every time I take her out. She has been in one show and won best import, beating out 6 other buses and numerous custom rice burners. I am that guy that will spend however long it takes to fix or detail a part that will never be seen just so that I know it will be done correctly.

Nothing is perfect so I will go into some of the things that aren't. Mystery motor... I was told it is a 1776. Runs good when it warms up. Brand new dual Empi 40's. Pops a little on warm up, was told that they need different size jets. Rear passenger running light isn't coming on. Could use a professional buffing job in a couple of areas. Trunk lid has a some milky bubbling in a few places. 6 inch crack in one of the safari windows. 9 pin flasher relay makes a clicking sound when you first start it, lasts about 15-20 seconds. Needs the aluminum trim on the interior of the cargo doors, holes are already drilled. No windshield wipers, I have the working motor and parts, It just doesn't get driven in the rain. Clock doesn't work. A couple of places on the interior where the material got cut a tad short. No heat. Safari frames still in powder coated off white. Wheels are dated and have numerous scuffs and scratches. Missing spinners. There may be a few other minor other things that I can't think of right now.

Truth is, this is a very high quality build that just oozes cool. You can spend hours looking into every nook and cranny admiring the amount of work and detail that has gone into the build. Unfortunately, I have moved on to another project with my son and I hate to see this thing sit. Fly in, drive it home.  I can be reached at 321-three7 seven-787seven if you would like to talk about the bus. However, please don't call to make ridiculous offers. I don't want to trade anything either. I busted my butt on this build and am expecting a decent return on my money and time. If you are overseas, I will drive the bus down my driveway to assist in shipping, once the funds are in my account and simmered. Bus has a clean Florida title and will be sold as is with no warranty, written nor implied.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

BMW says its diesels are above board

Fri, Sep 25 2015

BMW got yanked into the riptide of the Volkswagen diesel scandal thanks to a report in Auto Bild, which Auto Bild has now clarified. On Thursday the German magazine said that when the International Council on Clean Transportation tested the X3 xDrive 2.0d, the ICCT discovered the diesel X3's tailpipe emissions exceeded the European limit by more than 1,100 percent. The key detail, though, is that apparently at no time did the ICCT find that BMW cheated on any emissions tests. No one has explained why the X3 diesel had such high emissions and the ICCT wouldn't comment on the Auto Bild report. But the mag has issued a clarification asserting that in spite of the excessive emissions, there is no evidence BMW engaged in regulatory subterfuge. Every other BMW vehicle ICCT tested was within compliance, but the organization's report from October 2014 - that no one paid attention to - found that nitrogen oxide emissions in 15 vehicles it tested averaged seven times the European limit. The brand's stock is still suffering from the taint. It dropped almost ten percent the day the report came out before rallying to close at five percent down. But on Monday BMW stock closed at 84.01 euros, and as of writing on Friday it's still trying to fight its way back above 80 euros. With so many people still just trying to find out how widespread the the issue is, and trust rather low, it's likely BMW won't be the one dragged down, fairly or not. Related Video:

VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]

Sat, 26 Apr 2014

We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.
