1965 Vw Hardtop Deluxe Custom Bus, Full Restoration, Transporter, Type 2 on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
1964 Volkswagen Type II 13 Window Deluxe Full Custom Hardtop Tranporter Just off an extensive 3 year cosmetic and mechanical restoration, this bus is resplendent! Finished in it's original colors of sealing wax and beige grey it evokes thoughts of yesteryear. Yet with a completly updated drive train, suspension and braking system it brings it up to more modern driving standards. Making for a much safer and more comfortable cruising experience. Combine that with the one off, full blown, custom hippie inspired interior, replete with top of the line materials and high end audio and video systems and you have one sensational piece of vintage rolling art Starting off with a very solid two owner chassis originally from california and with a clean title, this bus was stripped down to its bare metal bones and found to have very little accident damage and mostly rust free. The original floors and belly pans are in excellent condition. Outriggers, jack points, doglegs, chassis are all rust free and solid. The exterior was sprayed using a ppg base coat clear paint system, including the engine compartment and wheel wells, in the original sealing wax color. All of which was then color sanded and buffed out to give it an amazing shine and depth. The interior was sprayed in the original beige grey throughout and is impeccable. The undercarriage is finished off in grey epoxy. Wolgang stainless steel safari windows were added front and back. Most of the hard to find original trim was either rechromed or polished ensuring a much better fit and finish than aftermarket pieces. Add to this all the original side and cab glass was kept and new rubber seals throughout, to include all the doors as well. Topping off the exterior, literally, is a custom made 5 bow roof rack with beautifully finished wood slats. The interior really must be experienced to fully appreciate the melding of such uncommon things as sewn coffee sacks which make up the headliner, or old barn wood repurposed for the flooring in the rear compartment. An Indian Kantha quilt was used to create the side curtains, while you have serape blanket and faux giraffe inspired coverings on the rear L shaped seat that doubles as a pull out full size bed! The doors, interior walls and toe kick are covered in an embossed paisley leatherette. The high end entertainment system is comprised of an alpine head unit incorporating blue tooth and pandora. A 13 inch drop down monitor, dual arc audio amps, 6 focal speakers and 2 image dynamics subwoofers come together for an impressive audio/visual experience. The chassis and drivetrain was treated to the same level of enthusiasm as the rest of this magnificent creation. Starting in the front with a cb performance 4 inch narrowed and adjustable beam including drop spindles and disc brakes. New tie rods, bushings steering dampener, shocks, hoses, master cylinder, etc. Moving to the rear there is a type 1 transmission with a butcher shop straight axle kit with clearance spring plates. This bus will easily cruise beyond 80 mph with the help of the german cased dual carbed 1776 motor. Professionally assembled with all new parts including crank, cam, oil pump, pistons and cylinders, lifters, bearings, etc. finished off with powder coated engine tins. Volkswagen rolls out all-new Polo R WRC
Sat, Jan 17 2015Volkswagen may have ruled out producing a road-going Polo more potent than the new GTI, but on the rally stage, the Polo R WRC has proven absolutely dominant. Introduced to the World Rally Championship in 2013, the Polo R won ten out of the baker's dozen rallies in its debut season, and all but one last year to win both titles two years running. That's quite an act to follow, and the task falls to the machine you see here. The new second-generation Polo R WRC was just revealed at Autostadt in Wolfsburg. The rally machine has been substantially reworked for 2015, with a new livery, new bodywork and new oily bits. In fact, Volkswagen says it has revised three quarters of the components, and while it has not yet detailed the "many new ideas [implemented] under the bonnet," it has identified the hydraulic gearbox as "the biggest innovation." Further details are still to come, but this is our first look at the new machine with which Sebastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen – who finished last year's championship in first, second and third, respectively – will tackle this year's championship, starting with the Rally Monte Carlo on January 22-25. FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) New technology, new design: presenting the second generation Polo R WRC - World premiere of the 318-hp Polo R WRC in Wolfsburg - Member of the Board, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, launches title defence - WRC kicks off with the iconic Rally Monte Carlo from 22–25 January Wolfsburg (15 January 2015). In top form, both technically and visually: Volkswagen presented the second generation of the Polo R WRC in Autostadt, Wolfsburg. The works team from Wolfsburg has its sights set firmly on another successful defence of its titles in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with a new car and a new look. Volkswagen completed a clean sweep of all the World Championship titles when the Polo R WRC made its debut in 2013, before repeating this impressive feat last season. Continuity is the key to the driving line-up for 2015: double world champions Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Floene (N/N) will roll down the starting ramp and head onto the first special stage of the year for Volkswagen at the legendary Rally Monte Carlo on 22 January. "The new Polo R WRC has undergone intense further development, both on the inside and the outside," said Dr.
Editors' Picks March 2022 | Acura RDX, VW GLI and a Rolls-Royce
Tue, Apr 5 2022This month's Editors' Picks offer a little something at every budget. We call out a performance car as cheap as the Volkswagen GLI, but the Rolls-Royce Ghost also manages to make its way on to the list. Of course, very few folks can afford a Ghost, but that doesn't change the fact that it's an engineering master class. In addition to these options, we also dive into the compact luxury SUV market, one that is bursting with choices. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in March that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 Acura RDX Quick take: The RDX ticks a lot of boxes for a great price. It drives better than expected, offers excellent tech, has plenty of room and even looks the part. Score: 7.0 What it competes with: Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Audi Q5, Lexus NX, Infiniti QX50, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Genesis GV70, Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace, Lincoln Corsair Pros: Value, driving dynamics, space Cons: Infotainment is polarizing, midgrade interior From the editors Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "The RDX is a bit of a sleeper in this segment. It drives far better than many of its competitors, and it doesn't let you down in any particular area. If you were thinking of buying an entry-level option from one of the Germans, make sure you take the RDX into account, because you'll likely end up with more tech and features for an even lower price. News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "The Acura RDX is an impressive value in the small luxury SUV segment. It starts in the low $40,000 price range, and provides loads of standard convenience and safety features. Everything is packaged in a sharp and surprisingly spacious package, too. It's also nimble and has a punchy engine that makes it fun to drive. You may find some competitors that surpass it in some areas, but the Acura offers about the most for the money of anything in the segment." In-depth analysis: 2022 Acura RDX Review | Value-packed and surprisingly sporty  2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Quick take: The GLI offers excellent driving dynamics and great styling for someone who doesn't want a hatchback. It's pricey, but it's worth it.
Brazil contemplates safety exemption for VW Kombi as it goes out of production today [w/poll]
Tue, 31 Dec 2013Brazil: the country of carnivals, indescribable beauty adjacent to abject poverty, Ayrton Senna and old Volkswagen models. Only they're not old - they're new, they're just based on old designs. The original Beetle continued production there long after it had been phased out elsewhere, but the original Kombi van has lasted much longer. That ends today, however, with the iconic VW Microbus ambling out of production on the last day of 2013.
VW kept making the van in Brazil with the original air-cooled 1.2-liter boxer four until 2005, after which the original design was updated with a 1.4-liter water-cooled engine. Today, however, it ultimately falls prey to safety regulations that mandate that all vehicles - no matter how old their design - need to have airbags and ABS, forcing Volkswagen do Brasil to cease production of the Microbus after a 56-year production run. But the latest word is that the Kombi (as it's presently known) could get a stay of execution - or at least a resurrection in short order.
According to reports, the Brazilian government is looking into granting the Type 2 Microbus an exemption from said safety regulations, reasoning that the van was designed long before the advent of airbags and ABS. If the measure goes through, the Kombi Last Edition (pictured above) could prove not to be the last at all. So what do you think, should the Microbus get an exemption from Brazilian safety regulations for nostalgia's sake? Vote in our poll below, then have your say in Comments.
