This car has been my wife's personal vehicle she drives back and forth to College. When my wife isn't driving it I have been driving it because of its excellent fuel mileage. We just spent well over $1200 to replace the head, timing belt, all pulleys, belt tensioners and water pump on this little Red Bug. The brake light switch has just been replaced on the car as well. The interior is in pretty good condition with minor scuffs on dash and one place on the drivers seat where the seats usually wear from the driver getting in and out of the vehicle. This little car does have a check engine and Air bag light on in the instrument cluster. The check engine light is from where the timing belt slipped a tooth and we had to replace the head, belt etc. around 4,000 miles ago. The mechanic we utilized did not have a way to clear the check engine code or air bag code on a VW, but the car runs great. I have trusted this car to carry my family of four everywhere we go without incident. My wife only wants to sell our little toy car because with two growing boys it gets a bit crowded for grocery getting and football games. The exterior of the car looks really well for a 11 year old car. That red paint really shines well and only has one little spot on the hood that the paint has a dime sized flaw. This car is sold as is with no warranty implied or otherwise, but with the timing belt kit already installed the car it should be mechanically sound for another 60,000 miles with regular maintenance. The Diesel engine purrs like a kitten and the automatic transmission shifts well too. Buyer will be responsible for all shipping costs and/or scheduling the pickup of this car. A $500.00 non refundable deposit through PayPal will be due within 24 hours of auction close and full payment within seven days of auction close. Full payment can be made with PayPal, Cashiers check from bank or cash in person.

Autoblog Minute: VW 'tip of the iceberg' in diesel emissions scandal
Sat, Sep 26 2015Some are calling Volkswagen just the tip of the iceberg in the diesel emissions scandal. Autoblog's Adam Morath reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Some are calling Volkswagen just the tip of the iceberg in the diesel emissions scandal. I'm Adam Morath and this is your Autoblog Minute. Here in the U.S. the EPA found defeat devices on certain Volkswagen vehicles. Across the pond however concerned environmentalist groups including [00:00:30] Transportation & Environment say that the issues could be more widespread in Europe. Nico Muzi, a spoken for Transportation and Environment was quoted in the Automotive News as saying: "Volkswagen is just the tip of the iceberg..." Muzi goes on to claim that cheating is widespread, and that results produced from European emissions tests, which are not administered by a government agency, show differences in data that "...are so much, it can't be explained." Clean vehicle manager at Transport & Environment Greg Archer spoke to Bloomberg Business about the need to reform emissions testing in Europe: [00:01:00] [Bloomberg Video Clip] While it's clear that automakers are engineering vehicles and software to perform well on emissions tests, the real question is whether or not other OEMs, besides Volkswagen, are using defeat devices to cheat the tests, either here or in Europe. 2015 Volkswagen GTI [w/video]
Fri, 26 Apr 2013The 911 Of Hot Hatches Takes The Compact Game To New Levels
North American car buyers get a bit of a slap in the face when it comes to delivery schedules for new the Volkswagen Golf and pumped-up GTI models. We'll just repeat the old chestnut: It's worth the wait... even though it still stinks. This time around, Western Europe is taking deliveries of the new Golf as we speak, and GTI deliveries start between May and July. North America doesn't get the Mk7 Golf or GTI until about July of 2014.
So we approached our first drive of the new GTI with this chip on our shoulder: "You're making us wait? Well, then at least give us the exact car we'll be able to buy. No compromises, mein freund." And so it was that we extracted nearly all of our drive impressions from behind the wheel of what, for the United States, will technically be a model year 2015 two-door Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance with the standard six-speed manual.
To solve diesel problem, VW might need two fixes
Fri, Oct 2 2015Volkswagen says that a fix is on the way for its 11 million vehicles around the globe that are equipped with diesel engine software that can evade emissions tests. The problem might be far more complicated than simply creating a single solution for all of them, though. According to Automotive News citing Reuters, two remedies to cover different NOx-reducing systems could be necessary, and both potentially affect performance. Earlier examples of the EA 189 diesel engine used a lean NOx trap to reduce the harmful material coming from the tailpipe. According to experts in the Automotive News report, a software update might allow the engines to achieve compliance, but that could affect fuel economy. VW already tried this route once before the scandal came to light, but tests by the California Air Resources Board still showed the figures were too high. Later, some of the 2.0 TDI engines began using Selective Catalytic Reduction that reduced NOx by injecting a urea solution into the exhaust stream. According to Automotive News, a software update for this equipment might increase the amount of the substance used. Not only would that mean topping up the fluid more often, but there still could be some reduction in fuel economy. But, since the 2-liter, 4-cylinder TDI engine that sits inside the diesel vehicles first mentioned as being affected by the issue in the US don't have a urea treatment system, VW would need to install them into these cars. VW still hasn't officially outlined its solution (or solutions) to the emissions issue but is expected to soon. The automaker's long-term evasion of regulations with these diesel engines pumped vast quantities of additional NOx into the air. The substance is known to be linked with smog and acid rain. The US Department of Justice is already beginning an investigation into the company, and politicians are pushing for harsh punishments.
