This was a one-owner 1971 Super Beetle (first year) purchased new in New Jersey and used until the owner died 7 or 8 years ago. It sat where he parked it until I inherited it and got it running again. The car features the original, rare Clementine orange paint, tons of service records from the original owner, original owner's manual, and even the original window sticker from the dealer. I tuned it up, changed oil, and installed all new brake parts, including master cylinder, wheel cylinders all around, and linings. New battery, new muffler and tail pipes, tune up parts (coil, plugs, points etc), fuel filter, and some chrome pieces as well. Still a little on the loud side. Brakes could still use some bleeding, but it is drivable on surface roads. Needs restoration of upholstery and paint. Typical rust-through behind the rear seats at the package shelf. Good underneath. The exterior could be lightly sanded and touched up, or repainted. Needs a running board on driver's side ($50 part) Excellent for someone who wants an original car to restore—one that has never been modified or messed-with. Car is located in historic Petersburg, Virginia, 20 miles south of Richmond, accessible to Hwys 95 and 85.

Note: This car sold here two days ago but the buyer never communicated with me, nor paid a deposit. So it has been relisted.

Peugeot will prove it doesn't offer cheater diesels

    Thu, Oct 29 2015

Our diesels are clean, really. That's the message from French automaker PSA/Peugeot-Citroen as it plans to go on the offensive in response to Volkswagen's diesel-emissions scandal. PSA will go out of its way to prove its diesels are as clean as advertised. The company is looking at disclosing "real-world" fuel-economy statistics as soon as next spring and will use an independent entity to vet the numbers, Automotive News Europe says, citing comments that PSA/Peugeot-Citroen financial chief Jean-Baptiste de Chatillon made to reporters this week. Such efforts may be vital, since roughly two-thirds of the vehicles Peugeot-Citroen sells in Europe are powered by a diesel engine. Last month, VW admitted that as many as 11 million of its diesel-powered vehicles were programmed with software designed to cheat emissions-testing systems. The news shook up the industry, especially companies that sell a good chunk of diesels. The EU itself may start instituting "real world" fuel-economy and emissions testing as soon as 2017. French regulators have said they may eliminate diesel-fuel subsidies that currently make diesel fuel cheaper to customers than gas. That adjustment may occur as soon as next year, since it's been pushed up in response to the VW scandal. Peugeot-Citron continues to reiterate that it has never installed software that was designed to cheat emissions-testing systems. Additionally, the automaker was more than a decade ahead of European Union mandates for engine components designed to cut soot emissions, so the company is hoping its track record makes a difference. It wants to be perfectly clear about that. VW's credit ratings could take a beating

    Fri, Sep 25 2015

In addition to a significant drop in its share price already, Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal is continuing to have major financial repercussions on the German automaker. According to The Detroit News, credit rating agencies like Standard & Poor's and Moody's changed their forecasts on the company to negative, and Fitch has considered doing so, as well. Volkswagen appears to have the money to cover the costs of this ordeal, but the agencies question the effect that this has in the long term. "Moody's concern, however, is that Volkswagen's alleged breach of US environment rules and, especially, the process by which that breach occurred, will have an adverse effect on its reputation and credibility within the global passenger car markets," the company wrote in a note to investors, according to The Detroit News. VW has initially set aside $7.25 billion to fix things, but the potential shakeup of top executives has caused some investor uncertainty, too. The actual costs for VW to deal with this scandal are still unknown. In the US, the Department of Justice has begun a criminal investigation, and with other automakers the government has settled for $900 million against General Motors and $1.2 billion against Toyota. Attorneys general in 29 states have started looking deeper, according to The Detroit News, and regulators in Europe, South Korea, and Canada have commenced their own probes, as well. Related Video:
