1972 Vw Beetle, Standard, Autostick, No Reserve, Nice Car,garaged on 2040-cars
Smithsburg, Maryland, United States
You are looking at a 1972 Standard VW Beetle. This is not a Superbeetle. I realize the old joke that everyone has a California car. Well, this is NOT a California car, it is a Nevada car and I have the original owners manual dating back to 1972 to prove it. I truly believe this car to have 62k original miles. This car has been garage kept with Hagerty classic car insurance. I have owned this car for just over 4 years. It is a really nice solid VW bug. It runs and drives really well, and the transmission shifts just great. Janis, as my wife calls her, had a low compression engine. The engine was pulled and pistons and cylinders were replaced, along with new rod bearings and valve job with guides on the heads. All the basic tune up parts were done. Carb was rebuilt and I replaced the distributor with a new Pertronix SVDA from Aircooled.net. This distributor no longer takes points. It has made a world of difference. All brakes were replaced along with master cylinder and hoses. All new ball joints and tie rod ends, alignment and new tires were installed. It also has a recently replaced battery. It also received a new muffler and tailpipes. The VW runs and drives very nice. She has all the pick up to get up to speed of traffic with no problem. I had some trouble with dirt in the carb and pulled the tank and cleaned it. It came out nice. I replaced fuel hoses and filters. The paint was done about 4 years ago as well and hasn't been driven in any bad weather and surely not when there was a threat of salt on the roads. The interior is in pretty nice shape with great seats and new carpet. There are some slits in the headliner which is evident in the pictures. The paint job was not done to make a show car, rather a car that can be driven without worry. It's a nice job, not perfect, but it really turned out to be a good looking car. It's a good time to run this car around. There is no clutch pedal to have to fool with. If you have never driven an autostick, it gives you the advantages of a stick shift without the need to work the clutch pedal all the time. Very fun to drive and you'll get a lot of waves in the bright green color. My wife chose the color with the understanding that I insisted it be a nice bright color that is easily seen to avoid accidents. Hood latch cable should be replaced and the pass side seatbelt should as well. This car is being sold as is. I hate to see it go, but am only selling this along with a 73 Camper VW bus to make room for a new addition. This car is definitely a favorite, but the garage is full and we have no choice. Feel free to email me with any questions or for more pictures. Cash In Person. Buyer makes a $250 pay pal deposit upon winning auction and can pay remainder within 10 days. DO NOT assume the advertisement price is your shipping costs. Please research any shipping costs prior to bidding. For some reason, my shipping details are not coming up on the listing. The vehicle stays here until paid in full. If you plan to have this car shipped, please research this prior to bidding. I recently had someone win a bid from California, and then announced he couldn't afford to ship it. He saw the advertisement on the screen for some cheap shipping quote and didn't read it. Only assumed it was accurate and then I had to relist it. I have set this up with NO RESERVE. A bit of a risk, but it needs to go. Thanks for your consideration. |

Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic
Mon, Oct 24 2016Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. Volkswagen pushed back against Takata airbag recall
Mon, Feb 15 2016Volkswagen and Audi will recall about 850,000 vehicles in the US to replace their Takata-supplied driver side airbag inflators, but the automaker doesn't believe the safety campaign is entirely necessary. In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company pushes the agency to re-evaluate the recall's scope because the parts are allegedly safe, it claims. VW asserted in the letter, which NHTSA posted online (as a PDF) with other documents about the company's safety campaign, that the vast majority of the automaker's recalled vehicles used Takata inflators from the supplier's factory in Freiburg, Germany. Only the US-built Passat had components from Takata's plant in Mexico. VW's argues to NHTSA that its recall is unnecessary because there are no reported airbag ruptures in the German-made parts, and the plant has better quality control than Takata's factories in the US and Mexico. In addition, the Mexico-manufactured components in the Passat are also allegedly safe because they come from a time after significant upgrades to the plant to address humidity and welding concerns. "We do not believe the facts known to date support the scope as defined in the Takata defect notification," VW's letter says. To be clear, VW is not refusing the Takata recall and plans to fix the affected vehicles. Instead, this letter shows the automaker expressing an opinion that NHTSA's scope for the campaign is too broad. VW now plans to do its own analysis on the inflators to strengthen that case, according to The Detroit News. "We respectfully request that, should such results be shown, the agency work with Volkswagen and other manufacturers to revisit the scope of these recalls," the letter said. Takata's recalled inflators use ammonium nitrate as a propellant, and experts believe that long-term exposure to high humidity can make the chemical more likely to cause a rupture during airbag deployment. The spray of metal shrapnel from the exploding parts has links to at least 10 deaths. Related Video:
2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs. sport compact sedans: How they compare on paper
Thu, Feb 28 2019Hot hatchbacks may be stealing the headlines, but they're not the only way to get cheap speed. There are actually a number of small sporty sedans on the market, too, in case you want that more formal roofline. The recently revealed 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI highlighted these vehicles, so we figured we'd take a look at the specifications and see how they compare to each other. Our contenders are the aforementioned VW, along with the 2019 Honda Civic Si, 2019 Subaru WRX and 2019 Hyundai Elantra Sport. All four start under $30,000 and offer more than 200 horsepower. And of course, they all have trunks. In our comparison, we'll look at each car's powertrain comparing horsepower and torque. We'll also look at practicalities such as interior space, fuel economy and pricing. You can see the raw numbers in the chart below, followed by additional analysis and links to reviews. If you'd like to compare any of these cars with a different group, be sure to check out our car comparison tool. Engines and drivetrains Performance, and particularly power, is likely a priority for a sporty sedan buyer, and there's a clear leader: the Subaru WRX. At 268 horsepower, it's 40 ponies ahead of the next most potent car, the 228-horsepower Jetta GLI. It also ties the GLI for torque at 258 pound-feet. Both cars also support the old adage that "there's no replacement for displacement," since each have 2.0-liter engines while the Hyundai has a 1.6-liter unit and the Honda engine only displaces 1.5 liters. The Hyundai and Honda are nearly tied for power and torque, too, at roughly 200 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Another bonus for the Subaru is its standard all-wheel-drive system, which is handy for power delivery, lateral grip and for inclement weather. While the Jetta GLI and Civic Si are front-drive only, they do feature mechanical limited-slip differentials to enhance traction under power. The Elantra Sport makes do with electronic aids and an open differential. We're pleased that all four of these cars offer manual transmissions, too. But if you do want or need an automatic transmission, the VW, Subaru and Hyundai have you covered. The VW and Hyundai rely on seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions, and the Subaru uses a CVT with eight preset ratios for manual mode shifting. The Civic Si, though, is manual only (and it's an excellent manual at that).
