I BOUGHT THIS 4 YEARS AGO AND IT HAS REALLY BEEN A HEAD TURNER. IT WAS JUST BUILT WHEN I BOUGHT IT, FROM THE CHASSIS UP. THE ONLY THING WAS THE WIRING HAD A PROBLEM SO I HAD THE WHOLE THING REWIRED BY A PROFESSIONAL RESTORER. I HAVE ABOUT 8800.00 IN THE BUGGY BUT KNOW I WON'T GET THAT OUT OF IT. I JUST HAD THE VALVES TUNED THIS SUMMER BY A VW MECHANIC. THE CHROME WHEELS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE ALONG WITH THE TIRES WHICH ONLY HAVE ABOUT 3000 MILES ON THEM. AS A MATTER OF FACT THATS ALL THE MILES THE BUGGY HAS ON IT. I JUST DROVE IT AROUND TOWN AND TO THE BEACH ONCE. IT HAS BEEN A VERY DEPENDABLE CAR FOR ME AND I WOULD'NT BE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. A LOT OF CARE HAS GONE IN TO THIS ORIGINAL MANX (PAPERWORK TO PROOVE). THE FRONT BUCKET SEATS ADJUST BACK AND FORTH AND LEAN FORWARD. THERE IS ONE SMALL HOLE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PENCIL ERASER. THE CHROME WHEELS HAVE NO RUST AND SHINE LIKE NEW.  THE CD PLAYER IS BY SONY AND HAS SPEAKERS BUILT INTO THE BACK SEAT WITH TWEETERS UP FRONT. IT HAS PLENTY OF PUNCH AND DOES HAVE THE REMOTE. ALL GUAGES WORK EXCEPT THE GAS GUAGE. PROBOBLY A SIMPLE FIX BUT I JUST KEEP IT FULL. IT HAS A DIMMER SWITCH FOR THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE FLOORBOARD. THERE IS A READING LIGHT ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. ALL SPEEDS SHIFT SMOOTHLY ALTHOUGH IF YOU ARE ON AN INCLINE IT MAY JUMP OUT OF REVERSE SOMETIMES. IT HAS SEATBELTS UP FRONT AND ONE THAT GOES ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BACK SEAT. ALL LIGHTS AND SIGNALS WORK. THE ENGINE DOES NOT SMOKE AND HAS LOTS OF POWER. I HAVE TOLD ABOUT EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF ON THIS FINE BUGGY AND AM BEING STRAIT UP ABOUT EVERYTHING. YOU ARE WELCOME TO CALL WITH ANY QUESTIONS AT (803)475-4798.

Volkswagen bringing new Tiguan to Frankfurt

Sun, Sep 6 2015

As expected, Volkswagen will introduce the new Tiguan crossover at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. While the brand hasn't quite gotten on the endless teaser train, VW's German Facebook page has released a simple shot of the new crossover covered up on the Wolfsburg factory line. We're not able to learn much from the single image released by VW Deutschland, as the sheet being used hides virtually all the body's details. The caption for the image is no help either, simply saying that the first Tiguan for Frankfurt has rolled off the Wolfsburg line. So yeah, that's about it. But while this image isn't terribly informative, we already know quite a bit about the new Tiguan. Its looks will likely be inspired by the Cross Coupe GTE and CrossBlue Concepts, while additional body styles could be offered later in the CUV's life. For performance fans, there will likely be a 300-horsepower R model, in addition to the standard array of gas and diesel engines. Check out the image from VW Germany's Facebook page, and then be sure to head back in a few weeks for the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Recharge Wrap-up: VW consumption down 24%, BAIC opens EV R&D in CA

Mon, Sep 14 2015

The Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership will provide grant funding to 21 states to help improve consumers' access to renewable fuels. Tom Vilsack, Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture announced the funding, which will help retailers purchase and install the equipment necessary to dispense fuels like E85 and other higher ethanol blends. Groups such as the American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, Prime the Pump, and the Renewable Fuels Association came forward to applaud the announcement. "This assistance in building out retail infrastructure is not only good for the American farmer but it is also great for the American motorist who will now have more opportunities to buy higher octane fuel at a lower cost," says Prime the Pump Chairman Ray Defenbaugh. Read more from Domestic Fuel. Volkswagen has reduced resource consumption of its vehicle production by 24.3 percent since 2011. As part of its "Think Blue. Factory." program, the automaker has implemented a series of environmental efforts (a number VW puts at 3,400 measures) at its factories worldwide. Examples include optimizing shut-down schedules, reducing solvent emissions, energy recovery programs, and recycling paper, plastic, and water. Read more at Green Car Congress. BAIC has opened an electric vehicle research and development center in California's Silicon Valley. The Chinese automaker's first overseas R&D facility, it opened under BAIC's subsidiary, Beijing Electric Vehicle Co. (BJEV), and is affiliated with the Beijing New Engineering Research Institute. The center will be responsible for the research and development of three to four new models per year, as BJEV intends to bring a complete lineup of EVs to market. BJEV also plans to open an R&D center in Europe. Read more at Green Car Congress or from BAIC. Co-CEO of Zap and CEO of Jonway Autos, Wang "Alex" Gang is providing $10 million in funding to the two companies in order to meet electric minivan orders. Zap/Jonway have taken down payments from Dongfeng to supply 11,000 of the EVs by the Chinese New Year (February 8) of 2016. The equity investment from Wang allows Zap/Jonway to ramp up production to meet this deadline, with a target of 1,000 EVs per month by year's end. Read more in the press release below. VW decides against active-cooling system for e-Golf lithium battery

Tue, Apr 1 2014

When the 2015 VW e-Golf was introduced at the LA Auto Show last year, VW said it would come with a water-cooled battery. During the Detroit Auto Show, when the car was trotted out again, VW released a new press release that stripped out the "water-cooled" language, but this change went unnoticed. During a recent VW event in Germany, a friend from Green Car Reports realized that the battery on display did not seem to have any water-cooling mechanisms. That set us off on a bit of a sleuthing and we have now learned that VW is not going to include any active cooling in the upcoming e-Golf. In fact, the company is entirely confident that this car - because of what it's designed to do - doesn't need it. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there" - VW's Darryll Harrison VW has been working on an electrified Golf for ages now, and so changes to the plan are to be expected. But battery cooling is vitally important not just to keep the car operating properly but because when things get too hot, there can be serious public relations problems. Nissan began testing a new battery chemistry for the Leaf in 2013 after an uproar from warm-weather EV drivers in Arizona who were experiencing worse-than-expected battery performance. The Leaf has always used an air-cooled battery, which is another way to say that there is no active cooling system (more details here). Tesla CEO Elon Musk once said this approach is "primitive." So, why is VW following the same path? We asked Darryll Harrison, VW US's manager of brand public relations west, for more information, and he told AutoblogGreen that VW engineers discovered through a lot of testing of the Golf Mk6 EV prototypes, that battery performance was not impacted by temperatures when using the right battery chemistry. That chemistry, it turns out, is lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) in cells from Panasonic. These cells had "the lowest self-warming tendency and the lowest memory effect of all cells tested," Harrison said. He added that VW engineers tested the NMC cells in places like Death Valley and Arizona and found they didn't warm very quickly either through operation, charging (including during fast charging) or through high ambient temps. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there," Harrison said.
