We have had this rare 1969 VW Convertible for a twenty three years .  We did a complete restoriation and have enjoyed driving it over the year event though it only has 18000 miles on the car, mostly it just sat in the garage.    We have had kept it garaged.   We have rebuilt the engine, transmission and replaced the brakes.  The drives and feel like it only has 5000 miles or less.  We are selling it as it is not getting driven just sitting in the garage.  It is drivable and fun to drive.  The engine, transmission and brakes where built by a local respected VW shop.  Recently we have done the following to prepare if for sale:

  • Replaced tires
  • Updated wheels
  • Replaced master cylinder and wheel cylinders
  • Replaced brakes
  • Replaced running boards
  • Major tune up, valve adjustment and carburetor rebuild

Some of the photographs do show the old wheels that where on the car.  If buyer prefers to have these wheels I will pay to have them changed from the chrome wheels at my costs.

The engine is nice and dry, leaks no oil and runs beautifully. The 1600 engine is perfectly tuned, has great compression and starts right up on the first try each and every time, idles smoothly and runs as strong as it did when it was new. Engine was completely rebuilt.  This car is simply provides the driver with nothing but pure enjoyment behind the wheel.

The transmission shifts seamlessly through the all of the gears with no slipping or grinding. The transmission was completely rebuilt.  There are no strange noises or vibrations from the engine or drive train, all you hear is the music of the flat four engine. The ride in this VW is great, there are no squeaks, rattles or other unwanted noises, the car drives straight and true...there is nothing indicating this car is 45 years old.

·       This Fabulous VW has been incredibly maintained since we have had it.

·       This car runs and drives like new. Starts right up, accelerates beautifully, shifts nice and smooth, no rattles or squeaks. Once your behind the wheel you would think it has less than 5,000 miles!

·       Recommended items that need attention.

o   Minor paint dings

·       Paint is Metallic blue with clear coat and in excellent condition has a few chips and dings (see photos).  It was repainted by me.

Questions asked:

  1. Interior:  The interior is gray leather front seats from a Jeep Cherokee.  Full power.  Way comfortable.  We upholstered the rear seat in leather in match the front.  The door panels are similar material with accent.  We used special foam to create the contour.  The upholstery was done over 10 years ago and still look new, check it out.  Note the pockets behind each front seat.  Note the window surrounds have been powder coated black.
  2. The dash is a Hi Tech Dash.  We innovated this product.  We use to have a business called Sho Kar Specialites and we made these dashes for bugs, super beetles, ghias and type three.  This is one I installed in my car.  I put a glove box in that actually works.  I still have the molds if you know anyone who wants a HiTech Dash.  I painted the dash to match the car when I build it.
  3. The top is Mercedes blue material, well maintained.  We put in a full liner of blue material, very quiet going down the road.
  4. The carpet is gray to match.  Notice the carpet is terminated with special trim I made when I did the restoration so it tucks clean rather hide behind trim.
  5. The trunk has gray carpet to match.
  6. The sun visors are good condition.
  7. Seat belts see photos.
  8. The miles on the speedo are the only miles we have put on car since major restoriation.  It has not seen over 100 miles per year for the last few year.  We recently go it out and did a major tune up, redid the brakes (from setting) and detailed the car.
  9. If you have an RV, I added special brackets at the rear bumpers for magnetic lights for towing.  The brackets stay with the car. We have towed it a few times with no issues.
  10. My reserve is $9000 and will not be reduced.  I have been asked numerous times.

VW considering single, cheaper li-ion cell for all plug-in vehicle batteries

Wed, Apr 22 2015

Volkswagen is finding rapid success in the battery electric vehicle market; especially in Europe where the e-Golf is already the segment sales leader. Recent concepts like the C Coupe GTE, Sport Coupe GTE and Cross Coupe GTE suggest more plug-in hybrids from the company are on the way, too. To make future models more economical, the German automotive giant is considering switching to a standard design for its lithium-ion battery cells. Using standardized parts is a long-accepted principle in production because it leads to economies of scale, and a company can pass on the savings to buyers or pocket the money to boost profits. VW is aiming for a massive 66-percent drop in costs by switching to a unified design, according to Heinz-Jakob Neusser, the board member in charge of development, to Automotive News. While the cells would be uniform, they could be crafted into different modules to fit each specific model. VW currently buys cells from Panasonic and Samsung for various models, but under the new plan all of the automaker's brands would switch to a single one. "We have a clear understanding in the group of a common cell," Neusser said, according to Automotive News, without suggesting when a change might happen. VW also has a few months decide on a different future for its EVs. The automaker is reportedly considering whether to use sold-state lithium-ion batteries from a US-based supplier for upcoming models. The next-gen tech could potentially give a massive boost in range while also being fireproof.

Piech and Winterkorn still at odds about VW leadership plan

Wed, Apr 15 2015

Volkswagen Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech (above, right) and CEO Martin Winterkorn (above, left) will be meeting in the coming days to discuss who the next leader of the Volkswagen Group will be. This, of course, comes after a report last Friday in Der Spiegel where Piech said he didn't want Winterkorn to be the automaker's next chairman. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that conference room. As Automotive News reports, Winterkorn had been widely viewed as the probable replacement for the 77-year-old Piech, until last week, when the current chairman said he was keeping the CEO "at a distance," in the German paper. While Winterkorn confirmed to German media on Monday that he still had a job, analysts aren't sure what Piech's comments will mean for the 67-year-old CEO's future, with some indicating he may end up being a "lame duck" leader. According to AN, Piech doesn't think that Winterkorn has the vision to lead the sprawling Volkswagen Group empire, even though the current CEO has the support of a number of other VAG stakeholders. "Piech knows what he is doing and will assume that he can get the supervisory board to implement his decisions," former BMW executive turned analyst Helmut Becker told German media, AN reports. Winterkorn has just over 18 months left on his contract, while Piech's term has another two years left on it, meaning it will still be some time before we find out how the Volkswagen Group's leadership issues play out.

Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.
