Professionally Appraised and Certified Classic 1965 Volkswagen Beetle. Official appraisal booklet/Certificate ($500 value) included in sale price. This VW Bug has been in my family since 1973. My parents purchased this vehicle in Hawaii while stationed with the US Navy in Pearl Harbor. It actually still has the Honolulu Towing sticker on the driver's side flip out window. After leaving the military my parents shipped this car back home to Queens New York. As a child this was our family car for a few years. In 1987 we took it off the road as we no longer needed it as a family vehicle (station wagons were the thing to drive). We stored the car in our garage until 1995 when my father decided to put it back on the road. We had it as a buzz around town car for a few years before it returned back into the garage in 1999. After sitting around for a few years my father decided to pay to have the car fully restored. In 2007/2008 my father brought the car to Steve's Foreign Car Repair in Rockville Centre New York. Steve stripped the car down completely and rebuilt it using all original parts as much as possible. The floor boards were fully replaced so you can see the extent that was taken to bring this car back to life. My father's goal was to take this car to VW shows etc. The car is in beautiful condition and just needs a little love. The front bumper has a small kink in it but can easily be popped out by a body shop. The only other thing that it needs is a spare tire and a new side mirror. I replaced the mirror with one that better suits my blind spots etc. As for the spare tire I don't need one as my Insurance policy has free road side assistance. I am the sole owner now and it's insured and registered in my name in Stamford CT. I drive it around on the weekends and keep it in my garage. The Classic Auto Insurance is a reasonable cost per year ($125.00) and it's very particular how the car can be used (cruising and shows, no more than 1,000 miles a year). I had the professional appraisal done 5/17/2011 as I needed to have the car valued in order to settle my father's estate. The appraisal valued it at $11,000.00 with an Insurance replacement of $11,750.00. I love the car but I think it would be better to see a true VW lover take ownership of her. I'm moving and having garage space going forward is going to be a challenge. It would be nice to see the next owner keep her in their family for another 40 years!

Volkswagen plugs new Passat GTE into European outlets
Mon, Jul 13 2015It's been the better part of a year since Volkswagen first announced the Passat GTE and revealed it at the Paris Motor Show. And now the German automaker is finally bringing it to market. That is, at least, certain markets, anyway. The new GTE broadens the range of the European-market Passat (which is entirely different from the model we get here) with a plug-in hybrid for the first time. It follows the emergence of the Golf GTE which has a similar setup. The gasoline-electric powertrain marries a 1.4-liter turbo four to an electric motor and a dual-clutch transmission, producing a combined 215 horsepower. It can also be switched into pure electric mode, giving it a battery-powered range of 31 miles and warranting exemption from congestion charges in London and other such cities. VW will offer the Passat GTE in both sedan and Variant wagon forms, with sales already beginning in select markets and broadening across Europe this fall. Asian markets can expect to see the new plug-in by year-end as well. Interested US customers will just have to admire this particular model from afar. New Passat GTE launches as saloon and Variant - Volkswagen continues e-motoring offensive with plug-in hybrid - Passat GTE delivers 218 PS and travels up to 50 kilometres on all-electric power - First Volkswagen plug-in hybrid in the high-volume segment of large family cars The Volkswagen continues to electrify! Following the Golf GTE*, comes the next high-volume model with a plug-in drive system: this time the German carmaker is electrifying the new Passat GTE. Its launch marks the debut of a new generation of business and family cars – zero-emission vehicle and long-distance touring car all in one. A Volkswagen that combines the present and the future. A car that boasts not only one of the most progressive drive systems of our time, but also an array of innovative assistance and infotainment systems that is ground-breaking in the segment of large family cars. With superb system output of 160 kW / 218 PS, frugal NEDC consumption of just 1.6 l/100 km and 12.2 kWh/100 km (Variant: 12.4 kWh) and an all-electric range of up to 50 kilometres, the Passat GTE defines a new level of efficiency in its class. Under normal operating conditions the new Volkswagen always begins its journey in all-electric and thus emission-free mode. This E-Mode can also be activated at the push of a button, for example towards the end of a journey as you enter a city.
2015 Volkswagen Touran is the Euro MPV exemplified [w/video]
Wed, Mar 4 2015Among the vehicles Volkswagen doesn't sell in the United States, we retain a soft spot for the tiny Touran MPV. Five doors, a reasonably sized trunk, clean sheet metal and an attractive cabin is an appealing combo, after all, regardless of the form factor. For the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, VW updated the popular compact van for European audiences. Like the Golf-inspired styling of the second-generation model, the popular hatchback's looks are clearly evident in the third-generation Touran. The Golf's small upper character line is more dramatic on the van, although the general taillight and headlight shapes are remarkably similar. The grille, meanwhile, is more Passat than anything else, with a conservative three-bar design. The R-Line model gets more dramatic front and rear bumpers, with black accents on the former and a pair of chromed exhaust tips jutting out underneath the latter. The cabin is typical of Volkswagen, with handsome materials throughout. Piano black is the dominant accent material, found on the dash and steering wheel, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel and hide seats both look like nice enough. Check out our full gallery of images of the new, third-generation Touran from the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen presents the new Touran - Germany's best-selling MPV completely redeveloped - More room; smart new design - New engines up to 19 per cent more economical Volkswagen presents the new Touran. The completely redesigned MPV was showcased before an audience of international media representatives at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, not far from the production site where the popular family car is made. The interior of the new model has undergone a significant increase in size and is highly configurable. Refinements have been made all around the vehicle, which boasts a range of six new economical engines and an extensive line-up of assistance and infotainment systems. The public premiere of the new Touran will take place in the coming week at the Geneva motor show. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, explained: "As one of the most successful family cars in the world with 1.9 million units sold, the Touran is indisputably Germany's top MPV.
VW's Winterkorn tells 20,000 staffers of big cost-cutting plans
Thu, 24 Jul 2014During a gathering of 20,000 Volkswagen Group employees at company headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany on Wednesday, CEO Martin Winterkorn dropped a bombshell. The boss stated that the automaker isn't operating efficiently enough and admitted the company needs to radically start cutting back to raise its profit margins. To right the ship, Winterkorn has proposed killing off less profitable models and spending less on research and development.
According to Reuters, Winterkorn wants to raise the VW brand's profit margin from about 2.9 percent in 2013 to a target of 6 percent. To make that possible, his plan amounts to increasing cost cutting until Volkswagen reaches about 5 billion euros ($6.7 billion) per year to get things back in order. "Over the short-term, we urgently need more efficiency and higher profit," the CEO said during his speech, according to Reuters.
However, Winterkorn can't make these decisions unilaterally. Volkswagen's works council also has a seat on the supervisory board to represent laborers, and it isn't likely to take the proposed cuts sitting down.
