Up for auction is a freshly restored 1964 Beetle, This had NO RUST on the body at all! IT was sanded, and Re-Painted with 3 coats of GM white. Fenders and doors were removed to get to everything. Vehicle now has been undercoated to prevent any rust from starting. First, a quick list of things fixed or replaced. NEW FLOOR PANS, both halves completely replaced with new ones. NEW CARPET, Seat covers have been cleaned and are not torn, DOOR PANELS, GLOVE BOX, ASSIST HANDLE, WIPERS, GLASS HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES, rear tailights are original glass (not cracked or broken), RADIO AND SPEAKERS with AM/FM/CD/USB/ AUX. NEW ANTENNA. Also has new STAINLESS STEEL polished Running Boards. NEW SEAT BELTS. NEW WINDOW SEALS ALL THE WAY AROUND, NEW trunk and decklid seals, and, NEW door seals. Brakes have been gone over and have at least 70% life left. Engine has been timed, plugs regapped, points cleaned and adjusted, valves adjusted with NEW Valve Cover gaskets. This has dual carbs that have been sychronized and adjusted. There is no choke on these carbs, so, she needs to be tickled a little when cold start-up. Door locks and decklid have been gone through and lubed/cleaned as needed. Runs great and shifts well. I am a VW nut myself, and I was suprised at the pep this car has! Not your typical slow beetle! The bumpers have been smoothed and customized for a No-bolthead CAL-LOOK appearance. Tires are good and hold air, Steering is tight and bearings have been repacked and greased. Trans has new fluid in it. Has fresh oil change, also has remote oil filter next to right rear wheel. The original sunroof has some new parts in it as well, GUIDES AND CABLES are new, CRANK GEAR is new. Now, for the not-so perfect, The sunroof works, but just needs a little helping hand to assist opening/closing. The headliner has some staining on it, but is not torn. A little interior paint or, if you are handy, a new headliner is about $80 online. Paint has a few spots with dust in it, but a little wet sanding and a buff would come out. Also, the exhaust is a header with dual Quiet pack mufflers on it and does not have the heater boxes required to have heat in the cabin. In the front trunk area, there are two 4" holes that were drilled in there at some point, I do not know why. Reciepts for all new parts are included. I am a VW/Audi technician and have performed all the work myself on this car, I am listing it for my neighbor whom actually owns the car and runs a small auto dealer as a hobby. I have listed the good and not-so good as well as I can recall. We reserve the right to end auction early, as it is for sale locally. No warranty, as-is. Buyer responsible for pick-up or shipping. Thank you and happy bidding!

Volvo, Daimler, Traton join forces to build electric truck charging network
Tue, Jul 6 2021Volvo Group, Daimler Truck and Volkswagen's AG heavy-truck business the Traton Group announced on Monday a non-binding agreement to build a network of high-performance public charging stations for electric heavy-duty long-haul trucks and buses around Europe. The news was first reported by Reuters. The three major European automakers will invest ˆ500 million (~$593 million USD) to install and operate 1,700 charging points in strategic locations and close to highways. They intend to finalize the agreement by the end of this year and start operations next year, with the hopes of increasing the number of charge points significantly as the companies seek additional partners for the future joint venture. The venture is meant to be a catalyst to prepare for the European Union's goals of carbon-neutral freight transportation by 2050. One of the main deterrents for both individuals and freight companies for switching to EVs has historically been a lack of charging infrastructure. By building that infrastructure, Volvo, Daimler and Traton can also expect to boost their own sales of electric trucks and buses. “It is the joint aim of EuropeÂ’s truck manufacturers to achieve climate neutrality by 2050," Martin Daum, CEO Daimler Truck, said in a statement. "However, it is vital that building up the right infrastructure goes hand in hand with putting CO2-neutral trucks on the road. Together with Volvo Group and the Traton Group, we are therefore very excited to take this pioneering step to establish a high-performance charging network across Europe.” The partnership between Volvo and Daimler isn't unprecedented. In May, the two competitors teamed up to produce hydrogen fuel cells for long-haul trucks to lower development costs and boost production volumes. This latest venture is another signal that major companies are banding together to solve climate-related issues in the industry. European car industry association ACEA has called for up to 50,000 high-performance charging points by 2030. Traton CEO Matthias Gruendler told Reuters that roughly 10 billion euros would be needed to build out Europe's infrastructure to be fully electrified by 2050. According to a statement released by Volvo, this venture is also a call to action for others with a stake in the industry, like automakers or governments, to work together to ensure the rapid expansion needed to reach climate goals.
VW says it has sold over 100,000 TDI diesels in America this year
Thu, 26 Dec 2013Volkswagen Group of America has lit oil-burning fireworks to celebrate the sales of more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles in the US between its VW and Audi brands this year. According to VW, that means it is responsible for more than 75 percent of diesel-engined cars and SUVs sold here - perhaps not surprising when the two brands offer a total of 12 diesel models.
What might be surprising is that the number of diesels isn't far off the estimated sales of 90,000 battery electric vehicles and PHEVs, with 15,000 of those accounted for by the Tesla Model S, another 12,000 or so being the Toyota Prius PHEV.
VW's keen to play up the ease of making diesel part of your life, stressing that it doesn't need any change to the refueling infrastructure and that "this is a technology delivering real answers to society's concerns about fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions without compromises."
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
