This Bug is ready to drive cross-country if you like. Mechanically, nothing needs to be done to it unless you want to modify what's there. Here's what I've done to it over the last year:
- new shocks front and back, including Empi for a lowered front end
- new front tires 175/60/15; rear have less than 10k miles. Empi 5-star rims.
- new heavy duty front sway bar w/urethane bushings for link-pin lowered front end
- new stock german muffler, non-stock but deeper sounding pea-shooters
- new rear brakes, complete; does need a new master cylinder
- new shock tower body-to-frame pads, same in front where the body sits on the crossbeam
- 9 new pan-to-body bolts w/plates (PO was missing 1/2 of the 18)
- complete re-furbished GERMAN engine tin, including working t-stat and bracket, new air cooling flaps made by Awesome Powdercoat in OH.
- new Euromax carb (I know, not a german rebuild)
- Pertronix Flame Thrower SVDA w/electronic ignition
- Master Series Silver rust proofed the floor pans
- New Wolfsburgh west tar boards for the pans and padding for the interior luggage compartment/firewall
- properly set all of the interior carpeting; correct radio shut off plate
- New: wiper switch, light switch, 12-v lighter socket, left parking light socket.
- ALL Electrical works: parking lights, interior light, license plate light, horn, no shorts.
- upgraded the wiper motor armature for a 12-volt system, so the single speed wipers WORK, and fast. Also installed the correct wiper fluid bottle for the year, but the top leaks air
- New battery (1 year old now), new alternator/chrome alternator pulley, new v-belt, spare in the trunk; new accelerator, clutch, and heater cables (spare of the 1st 2 go w/the car)
- new heat exchangers, both sides, and working heat, though slow to start.
- Scat pro-car 90 front bucket seats
- new 3-point front seat belts from Wolfsburg West.
- Original VW rear seat bottom kick panels, but from a later year Bug.
- the original front seats go with the sale
- the original back seat top is installed, but the bottom in the car is from a later year so it's too high to bolt the backrest to the sides of the car; I have the correct year bottom seat spring frame, but haven't upholstered it. All original seats go w/the car when I sell it.
- also installed original factory German window regulators for the year
- shift lock and keys
The odometer reads just over 40,000 but that is not accurate. I accept PayPal, wire transfers or cash. $1,000 deposit from the winning bidder w/in 24 hours of winning the bid, otherwise I reserve the right to re-post or go to the next highest bidder if the reserve has been met. Don't ask me what the reserve is, I won't discuss it. Also - this is a 49 year old car. No warranty is implied or offered, it is sold as-is, and no refunds.
Thanks and good luck!

VW Diesel Scandal Wrap-up: Time for bullet points
Thu, Sep 24 2015Here we go again. If you were not pegged to your RSS reader yesterday, scoping out all of the VW diesel scandal news, here's a brief rundown of what happened: Just how much extra pollution did VW's little problem cause in the US? New estimates suggest it's as bad as having an additional 19 million cars on the road, or "12,000 additional tons of nitrogen oxide pollutants per year." NOx can create smog and acid rain. The diesel scandal is also reshaping some online ads. Sponsored content in WIRED that talked about clean diesel has been taken down. The advertisement was a partnership between Volkswagen and the Wired Brand Lab and claimed to have, "created an experience that will inform, educate, surprise, and change the way you think about diesel." Canada says it might start up its own governmental investigation and that "enforcement action will be taken," if the automaker is found to have broken the law. The German government says it did not know about VW's subterfuge until recently, and is going to start a fact-finding process this week. It turns out that the first hints of this scandal were discovered by independent researchers in 2012 and 2013. Whatever happened, Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said that it's hard to hide something like this. Following CEO Martin Winterkorn's departure yesterday, speculation is running rampant to see who will replace him. Automotive News says it should be current Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller. Don't feel too bad for Winterkorn, though, as he's still likely to get his $32 million pension, Bloomberg says. Oh, and this isn't even the first time VW has tried to cheat the EPA. It's a problem in the auto industry. We'll see how many bullet points we have tomorrow. Major automakers urge Trump not to freeze fuel economy targets
Mon, May 7 2018WASHINGTON — Major automakers are telling the Trump administration they want to reach an agreement with California to avoid a legal battle over fuel efficiency standards, and they support continued increases in mileage standards through 2025. "We support standards that increase year over year that also are consistent with marketplace realities," Mitch Bainwol, chief executive of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a trade group representing major automakers, will tell a U.S. House of Representatives panel on Tuesday, according to written testimony released on Monday. The Trump administration is weighing how to revise fuel economy standards through at least the 2025 model year, and one option is to propose freezing the standards through 2026, effectively allowing automakers to delay investments in technology to cut greenhouse gas emissions from burning petroleum. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not formally submitted its joint proposal with the Environmental Protection Agency to the White House Office of Management and Budget for review. Even so, last week, California and 16 other states sued to challenge the Trump administration's decision to revise U.S. vehicle rules. Auto industry executives have held meetings with the Trump administration for months and have urged the administration to try to reach a deal with California even as they support slowing the pace of reduction in carbon dioxide emissions that the Obama administration rules outlined. One automaker official said part of the message to President Donald Trump at a meeting on Friday will be to consider California like a foreign trade deal that needs to be renegotiated. Automakers want to urge him to get automakers a "better deal" — as opposed to potentially years of litigation between major states and federal regulators. On Friday, Trump is set to meet with the chief executives of General Motors, Ford, Fiat Chrysler and the top U.S. executives of at least five other major automakers, including Toyota, Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG, to talk about revisions to the vehicle rules. Senior EPA and Transportation Department officials will also attend. Environmental groups are eager to keep the rules in place, saying they will save consumers billions in fuel costs. A coalition of groups plans to stage a protest outside Ford's headquarters in Michigan.
