• 1964 Volkswagen Bug • Flat black paint on exterior, interior is original Java Green (no passenger seat) • Anodized black aluminum trim • Gene Berg locking shifter • Gene Berg full-flow oil filter system • Gene Berg oil temperature dipstick • Engine in excellent mechanical condition, super low miles refreshed with performance add-ons. • 87mm pistons • CB Performance 044 heads • Empi valve covers • Empi breather kit • High capacity oil sump (not currently installed) • Lightened flywheel (still have barely-used stock unit) • KEP stage 1, 1700lbs Pressure Plate, 200mm (still have barely-used stock unit) • Competition exhaust system with hide-away muffler • New fenders (NOS) with new fender beads • New 1600 cc dual port engine with duel Kadron carbs • Less than 500 miles on rebuilt engine. • Pertronix SVDA distributor with points replacement ignition • 12 volt conversion • Completely rewired • New windshield • New headliner (black) in perfect condition • Kadron carbs rebuilt with vacuum port added • New gas tank • New front beam • Front brakes upgraded to CB Performance disc brakes w/ 2.5" drop spindles, plus braided stainless steel brake hoses • KYB GR-2 gas shocks at all four corners • Rear spring plates adjusted lower • Urethane transaxle mount • Padded transaxle support kit • New shift bushing • Camber Compensator on rear suspension • Sway bar on front suspension • New Cal Look window seals and door seals • Deck lid fits on with proper hinges, but does not have latch • Very low mileage on tires • 5-spoke wheels • Has original side mirror, rear view mirror, and sun visors • Also includes a super sturdy Engine stand and other VW-specific tools (transaxle fill plug, clutch alignment tool 36mm gland nut, etc.) • Located in Lincoln, CA • Stored in a garage at all times • $4,500 (reasonable offers considered) • Cash offers only, please. Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. North American car buyers get a bit of a slap in the face when it comes to delivery schedules for new the Volkswagen Golf and pumped-up GTI models. We'll just repeat the old chestnut: It's worth the wait... even though it still stinks. This time around, Western Europe is taking deliveries of the new Golf as we speak, and GTI deliveries start between May and July. North America doesn't get the Mk7 Golf or GTI until about July of 2014.
So we approached our first drive of the new GTI with this chip on our shoulder: "You're making us wait? Well, then at least give us the exact car we'll be able to buy. No compromises, mein freund." And so it was that we extracted nearly all of our drive impressions from behind the wheel of what, for the United States, will technically be a model year 2015 two-door Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance with the standard six-speed manual.
