The Volkswagen Beetle first came on the public scene in 1947, but they were known by a different name. KdF, short for Kraft durch Freude meaning 'power by joy', was designated to these small, gas-friendly vehicles. In English, the name Beetle was used. In German, they were known as Kafer, and in French they were called Coccinelle. photo IMG_4062.jpg

Here is a 1964 Volkswagen Convertible Beetle Karmann Edition up for auction. This Classic Beetle will turn heads everywhere. It is Black on Red and is a daily driver. The 1600 air cooled Engine runs solid and starts up every time. It has a hurst shifter and a quick release. I just got it tuned up and adjusted the valves. New spark plugs have been installed and the oil was changed. You will need to warm it up just like any air cooled VW. photo IMG_4065.jpg

The new owner will need to install a new top. I got it estimated from my local upholstery shop for about $1,500. Also the electrical will need to be looked at.  Just like most VWs, it does mark it's territory by leaking oil here and there.  It gets even better as you enter this classic.  The interior is brick red from the front seats to the rear seats. The door panel is also red. The interior is about 1 year old and there is no rips. This black exterior and the red interior color combination gives the car an expensive European sport car stance yet keeps the traditional look.  Please be sure you would like to own this because it's a NO RESERVE AUCTION.  I would like this Convertible to go to a good home so bid to buy.  Thanks

Overall, it’s a nice convertible as a daily driver.  It is for that individual that does not want to spend $40k on a fully restored Convertible bug.  Any drive, anywhere, you know you are riding in history. photo IMG_4051.jpg

By the way, this classic Volkswagen is an everyday driver. Spend more time driving than under the engine!!!

Audi CEO Rupert Stadler: Ducati is not for sale

Sat, Jun 18 2016

"Ducati is not for sale." Those words, attributed to Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, are about as clear and definitive as can be, and they reiterate a previous statement about the potential sale of the premium Italian motorcycle brand that was made in March of this year. "[Ducati and Lamborghini] belong to Audi and, together with us, have an excellent future," said Stadler. Thing is, Audi, as well-off and established as it may be, still falls under the Volkswagen umbrella. And, as you're surely aware, things haven't exactly been smooth sailing for the VW Group over the last several months. The German automaker has squirreled away billions of dollars in anticipation of the legal fallout that's sure to come from the falsification of vehicle emissions data, and that's going to leave the company strapped for cash. All of that bad news led to speculation that VW could sell off some of its non-core businesses. What of the future of the Scania and Man heavy truck brands? Those don't currently appear to be on the auction block, either. VW's continued involvement in the HD truck segment was announced as part of the brand's TOGETHER - Strategy 2025 plan, in which Volkswagen outlined plans to push further into vehicle electrification and vehicle autonomy. 10 best new car deals of November 2021

Thu, Nov 4 2021

Sales of new cars, trucks and SUVs were drastically affected in 2020 due to the (still) ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The market started to show signs of recovery toward the end of last year before really coming on strong in the early months of 2021. Of course, then pandemic-related parts and worker shortages along with global shipping constraints started running amok and causing a great deal of pricing fluctuation and a limited supply of certain vehicles. Those problems (among other things) have led to record-high new-car transaction prices in the United States. The good news is that there are still plenty of great deals on new cars. Using data provided by TrueCar, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best automotive deals for November 2021. WeÂ’ve noted the original MSRP, the average transaction price, and the total savings in both dollars and as a percentage of the original sticker price. Basically, weÂ’ve done all the hard work for you! So now, all you need to do is compare deals, go on a few test drives, and maybe drive away in a great car (and an even better bargain).

VW recalling 2.64M vehicles worldwide over engine, light issues

Thu, 14 Nov 2013

Volkswagen is staging a massive, worldwide recall that's already grown from 1.68 million to 2.64 million vehicles and covers three different issues across a number of vehicles. We already reported on 61,000 Tiguans getting recalled over lighting issues - that was just in the US. Globally, however, VW will be recalling 800,000 Tiguans, according to Automotive News, with the focus on CUVs built between 2008 and 2011. The issue with the Tiguan relates to a simple fuse swap, so this is rather unremarkable, aside from the sheer number of vehicles being fixed. The real, troubling issues relate to gearboxes and pickups.
239,000 Amarok pickups (pictured right) are being recalled over fuel leaks, while 1.6 million vehicles are being recalled to swap the synthetic oil in dual-clutch transmissions with mineral oil. Now, the transmission issue is one for the global Volkswagen Group to address, not just the VW brand - vehicles from Audi, Škoda and Seat use the same seven-speed DSG and are covered under the recall, as well.
Why the switch from synthetic to mineral oil? Apparently, using the synthetic oil in a DSG and then subjecting it to stop-and-go conditions or heavy loads in a hot and humid climate can lead to electronic malfunctions, according to a Volkswagen press release. The switch, from the sounds of it, is largely a preventative measure.
