Up for sale is my 61 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. I bought this car 12 years ago, and it was a car that had sat inside a dry warehouse for many years. It was believed to be a one owner car. We did a little tinkering, and got the car started and drove it up the road a couple of times. We decided to do a complete frame on restoration of the car, and make it like new, since it was such a perfect example of a rust free 61 VW. Even though it did not need them, we had new floor pans installed, just so the car would be perfect. We sent the car to the best VW mechanic in our area, and had the original 1200 engine completely rebuilt (the engine is still at his shop, will pick it up prior to sale of vehicle, and it has not ever been installed, so it has 0 miles since the rebuild.). I have a receipt for the engine rebuild, along with new clutch, exhaust system, and tune-up parts. Also has a new fuel tank (never installed). It has all new brake parts (new drums, shoes, brake hoses, etc,). It has a new windshield still in the box, and new windshield trim, also still in the box. It has a lot of other brand new parts that were bought for it, still in their packaging. That includes new fenders, taillight assemblies, firewall insulation, new fender beading, new door handles w/keys, hood release cable with knob, new chrome handle, latch, and receiver for trunk, new chrome tee handle for engine compartment, new bumper brackets (front and rear) and bolt kits, new turn signal assemblies, and most all seals and gaskets for repainting the car, etc. All the new parts are still in their original packaging, and I have receipts for those also. I have a lot of money already invested in this car. I was not going to spare any expense on it. I just wanted to make it perfect. This is one of the finest examples of a 61 VW that there is for restoring. It had been sent to the body shop to be completely restored, and they started on it (put the floor pans in properly, etc.), then quit working on it. I finally had them send the vehicle back to me, and I put it in a storage room until I could find someone else to do the restoration  The years went by, and that never happened. Finally, this year, I lost my storage for it, so now I am sadly forced to sell it. My loss is definitely your gain. This is a wonderful project, and like I said before, it is one of the finest examples of a 61 bug convertible that you will find, before being restored. The car was 99% rust free to begin with. All the parts are there for it (glass, top, etc.). The only things missing are the bumpers (I was going to get new ones), the radio (it did not have one when I got it), the starter (used it on another car over the years), the battery (I bought a new one for it when I got it, but after all these years it was bad, so I disposed of it when I moved), the running boards, and one headlight assembly. I sure hate to part with this vehicle, but at the present time, I have nowhere to keep it. It is taking up space in my garage that belongs to another one of my vehicles, that I had to store in a friend's garage for a few weeks, until I sell this car. I had a picture in my mind of how this car was going to look done, and it would have been my dream to have been able to finish it. It is a completely original car, with the original interior, and top (both of which were usable before it was disassembled). It still has the original 1200 engine, and the six volt electrical system. It has a heater, which I think was an option in 61. I intended to keep it completely original. The car was originally white with a black top, and brick red interior. Someone had painted it light yellow at one time. If you are the winning bidder, I will need a $500.00 non refundable deposit within 24 hours of auction end, and the remainder of the payment within 7 days of the auction end. I will accept cash, cashier's check, or bank transfer only. The car and title will only be released once payment has cleared. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Good luck, and happy bidding. If you are looking for an old VW convertible, this is the one to build. I am so sad to have to part with it. It brought back so much nostalgia when I got to ride down the road in it, prior to disassembling it for restoration. I would have loved to have completed it.

Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes gets F1 efficiency, EV charging in Vermont, VW e-Golf to use Bosch

Mon, Jul 14 2014

Efficiency equals performance, especially in the case of Formula 1 racing. The Mercedes AMC Petronas team points to several key efficiency technologies it uses to get the most out of its cars. And if their utter dominance so far this season is testament to this relationship, perhaps we should pay attention. Mercedes highlights hybrid tech, turbocharging, aerodynamics, lightweight construction, tribology (both in making internal components and lubricants more slippery) and simulation as crucial to getting around the track faster than anyone else. These just happen to be some of the same things that make the cars we drive on public roads more fuel-efficient. Learn more in the press release below. It's a good read. Brammo, maker of sweet electric motorcycles, is teaming up with TEAM Industries to make drivetrains for electric vehicles. TEAM, which specializes in drivetrain technology, will also become an investor in Brammo as part of the partnership. "The electric vehicle market is a growth market," says TEAM CEO and President David Ricke, "and TEAM and Brammo will be providing a wide range of solutions for OEM manufacturers." Read more over at EV World. Vermont celebrated the installation of a new EV charging station as part of a Green Energy Corridor between Boston and Montreal. When finished, drivers will be able to make the whole trip in an EV with access to charging along the way. For $5, customers can charge their vehicle in about 30 minutes at the Red Hen Baking Company in Middlesex. There are currently only about 700 EVs on the road in Vermont. The state has a goal to get 90 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, and getting more EVs on the road is crucial to that mission. Vermont hopes that expanding the charging infrastructure will convince more people to go electric. Read more at Vermont Public Radio's website. For it's new e-Golf, Volkswagen will use Bosch chargers for home installation and ChargePoint stations at its dealerships. Bosch will have various 240-volt options for the home, and will also provide installation. e-Golf customers will also get a free ChargePoint membership, and will have access to the company's network of charging stations worldwide. The 2015 e-Golf goes on sale in the US later this year. Read more in the press release below. Take a listen to the Volkswagen ID 3 and Koenigsegg Jesko

Sun, Dec 15 2019

What could better demonstrate our diametric vehicular future than sound clips of the Volkswagen ID 3 and the Koenigsegg Jesko? Battery-electric vehicles don't make enough noise on their own, so VW partnered with composer Leslie Mandoki for the legally-mandated Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) that warns pedestrians and cyclists of the EV's presence. Mandoki — a German-Hungarian who once played drums in a Euro disco band called Dschinghis Khan — was asked to come up with a sound for the ID 3 that VW said "defines its identity," "radiates safety and the promise of effortless mobility," and that "must also impress with its unique character." The definition of the ID 3's single-motor, 201-horsepower character is this: Occupants and people around the hatch can hear the sound as the car accelerates to 18.6 mph, and when reversing. At higher speeds, the sound of wind resistance and tire noise takes over. As our library of AVAS tones grows, it's clear that EVs will provide a soundscape as varied as that of internal combustion engines. Here, for instance, is the industrial thrum used as the Karma Revero GT's pedestrian warning: And here is the sci-fi soaring from the BMW Vision M Next, as composed by Hans Zimmer: At the other end of the aural chamber, we have the Koenigsegg Jesko. In this case, the composer is a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 running on a bio-ethanol E85 blend that's almost suitable for IndyCar, powering the engine up to 1,600 horsepower. Output on pump gas will be 'only' 1,281 hp. The Swedish automaker released a clip of the exhaust note of a car in progress inside the Angelhom factory. Here's what we can look forward to: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. All these sounds have a place at the table, even if we'd prefer Karma booked some time with a producer and an Autotune session. To paraphrase Sesame Street, though, one of these sounds is definitely not like the other.

Volkswagen bringing driver assistance systems to its 2016 lineup

Sat, Aug 1 2015

Chevrolet isn't the only manufacturer rolling out luxury safety technologies on a 2016 mass-market lineup. Volkswagen has just announced that next year it will begin adding driver assistance systems to its lineup here in the States – stuff that was previously only available on Audi and Porsche models here, or Volkswagens in Europe. Adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and autonomous braking will be standard on the CC V6 4Motion, optional on certain trims of the Golf and Jetta. Blind spot monitoring will be standard on the Beetle, and top CC and Jetta trims, but optional on the Golf and lower Jetta variants. Automated parking will be available on Golf models, including the e-Golf. Blind spot assistance with rear traffic alert, lane departure warning, park distance control, and an automatic post-collision braking system also come in the technology kitty, all of which will be packaged at prices between $695 and $1,495. Infotainment options take a bit step up, too, with every VW model but the Touareg being fitted with touchscreens. The new MIB II head unit comes in four sizes, the Beetle, Jetta, and Tiguan getting the smallest, five-inch screen as standard but upgradeable to a 6.5-inch screen. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink are integrated into that larger screen. The interface is improved by a faster processor, higher resolution, and better graphics, and some will come with swiping and pinch-to-zoom functionality. The two press releases below lay it all out in detail. VOLKSWAGEN DEMOCRATIZES HIGH-END DRIVER ASSISTANCE FEATURES FOR THE 2016 MODEL YEAR Many models in the 2016 Volkswagen lineup offer new driver assistance systems that used to be the sole preserve of premium and luxury vehicles Herndon, VA Jul 29, 2015 — For the 2016 model year, Volkswagen is offering a host of driver assistance features that were only previously available on the premium Touareg SUV—and adding some new ones that truly democratize driver assistance for the compact sedan and compact hatchback classes. These available features include: Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist); Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); the Parking Steering Assistant (Park Assist); and an active Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist) system. The Beetle, CC, e-Golf, Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen, and Jetta offer these available features, depending on model and trim line.
