Additional information on the 1957 VW:

This 1957 VW runs “good” for a 1957 VW and runs “ok” for a car.  It does not have power steering or power brakes which are standard today.

The front end of this car hit something and damaged the original hood and the existing front apron.  The damage in the original hood is shown in a new picture.  The new pictures show the following:

The chrome bow above the front bumper is missing in the originally posted pictures.  A new picture shows the missing piece set in place where it was cut out.  Behind the bumper is the front apron which does not show much damage in this view.

Views of the inside of the apron and the front hood show more of the damage.

Other new pictures show locations of additional rust damage not in the pictures originally posted.  The areas with holes due to rust are inside the wheel wells, behind the gas petal, passenger side heater channel, and under the car along each side.

The originally posted pictures show areas of rust that are not rusted through.  These areas of rust are on surfaces including the exterior, interior, and chrome.

Some parts are included with the purchase of the car.  The original damage hood is shown in one new pictures.  Not shown are these spare parts: a rear window, two bumpers, a wheel with tire, chrome moulding pieces, door latches, a window mechanism, a starter, heater channel, battery cover, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate,   old brakes shoes, and small nuts and bolts.

For the electrical system, the turn signals are not working.

VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Reggae super-duper-star and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff has been using music to send positive vibes out into the universe for decades now, so its no surprise that his message on behalf of Volkswagen is one of redemption.
Dubbed Sunny Side, this web-spot is VW's warmup of sorts for what promises to be another blockbuster year in the world of Super Bowl commercials. Without giving away the game, the euphonious commercial sees Cliff opening his arms and his heart to some YouTube 'celebrities' that might see courser treatment from the likes of Tosh.0, for instance. We can't help but be reminded of Coca-Cola's legendary 1971 Hilltop spot with the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" lyric, too.
Enjoy the pre-Super Bowl VW spot below, and don't forget to pay it forward... your karma will thank you. For those of you that just can't get enough of commercial-making magic, we've included a "making-of" video, as well.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?

Toyota reclaims global sales crown, GM and VW not far behind

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

TheDetroitBureau.com reports Toyota has retaken the global sales crown. The Japanese automaker turned out 9.75 million vehicles last year, putting it just ahead of General Motors, with 9.29 million vehicles. Volkswagen, meanwhile, filled out the podium by building 9.1 million units in 2012.
Still, Toyota numbers fell just below projections the automaker made earlier in the year, due largely to a fierce territorial dispute between Japan and China that has seen mainland buyers shun Japanese goods. But the news marks a substantial comeback for Toyota. The company fell to third place in the global production race in 2011 after tragic earthquake and tsunami caused several plant closures.
In Japan, Toyota enjoyed a sales increase of 35 percent over the previous year, while the company's worldwide sales jumped by 23 percent thanks in part to new additions to the Prius line. The automaker is forecasting yet another increase for 2013, with the company projecting to reach 9.91 million units this year. Neither Volkswagen nor GM have released their own projections just yet.
