                     1956 Volkswagen Beetle

This very nice 1956 Beetle is in excellent running and driving condition. An older restoration that shows very well, this is a wonderful example of a Series 1.

One of the things that I love about this car is that everything works as it should.

Lights, wipers, horn, radio, heat, defrost, reserve lever.

It’s all there and it all works.

I also love the fact that it isn’t over done, there’s a bit of patina on the Steering wheel, gearshift and emergency brake levers for instance. The interior is very nice, with very little wear and the exterior paint is nearly flawless with the biggest issue being a crack in the paint on the rear deck lid. I didn’t notice it for an entire day after we had the car, so it certainly doesn’t stand out.

The undercarriage is in great shape. The pan was powder coated when it was restored to a nice standard.  Other than a small amount of surface rust on a few of the non-structural parts, it is rust free.

The car starts, runs, shifts, steers and stops very well and is an absolute pleasure to drive.

I’ve put over 100 miles on this little Beetle and it has never missed a beat.

The older gentleman that we purchased the car from stated that he believed the motor to be original to the car. I also had a friend who is fairly knowledgeable in early VW’s look at it. He thought that it was more than likely the original engine.

Of course we have no was to be sure, but the speedometer reading of 75k is completely believable given the overall condition of the car, especially parts that weren’t replaced when it was restored.

Overall the 1953-57 Beetles are considered some of the best built. With many hand crafted items, such as the rear deck lid and front emblem, these are special cars.

If you have an older VW, Porsche, or special classic you would like to locate a new home for, we specialize in marketing these cars. As you can see from our presentation we do a proper job and have many satisfied clients.

Volkswagen Touareg hybrid axed for 2016

Fri, Aug 7 2015

Volkswagen is axing the Touareg hybrid for the 2016 model year. At a starting price of $67,905 (after $910 destination), the 2015 version sat at the top of the Touareg range, but it didn't offer significantly improved fuel economy for the extra money. The hybrid was only three miles per gallon city and one mpg highway better than the base V6. Another hurdle for potential buyers: the entry-level diesel had even better highway mileage and cost over $14,000 less. Earlier this year, Nissan made a similar decision to scrap the Pathfinder hybrid, and the future for the QX60 hybrid is murky. Volkswagen has a few other adjustments in store for the 2016 Touareg. The biggest change is that the whole lineup sees about $2,000 sliced off the price. According to Car and Driver, the adjustment knocks $2,090 off the base price to bring things to $42,705. In addition, the Lux and Executive trims now get standard 14-way power adjustable and ventilated seats, and the two of them are also offered with new, 21-inch wheels. The Executive also now gets power adjustment on the steering column and a suite of safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning. 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid

More Fun Than A Prius, Less Sensible Than A TDI
Let's have some fun, and do some math. We're talking pretty rudimentary stuff, multiplication and division, to figure out if the upcoming Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid can make a baseline case for itself against two very strong competitors in this segment. The competitors in question, at least for now, are two more Jettas: the diesel-drinking TDI and the fit-for-the-masses SE with VW's long-serving 2.5-liter engine.
To keep the equations clean and simple (hey, we're writers), we'll calculate based on the most flattering EPA miles per gallon stat from highway driving for all cars, assume a healthy 20,000 miles driven per year, and factor in today's average cost for the respective fuels these three require: diesel (TDI), regular (SE) and premium (Hybrid). We'll also start with the base prices for all models.

VW execs didn't think diesel problem would be so serious

Thu, Mar 3 2016

Volkswagen Group has admitted that former chairman Martin Winterkorn received two memos about the diesel scandal in 2014. Top execs ignored the problem because they didn't think it was a serious issue. VW disclosed these details to counter allegations in a German shareholder lawsuit that alleged the automaker violated the law by withholding the info from investors. A memo on May 23, 2014 first advised Winterkorn about emissions cheating. A memo on May 23, 2014, first advised Winterkorn about the study from the International Council on Clean Transportation, which identified the emissions cheating. According to VW, the document was part of the exec's weekend mail, and the company's investigation didn't discover whether Winterkorn actually read it. A rumor last month alleged this memo existed. Another memo for Winterkorn on November 14, 2014 was about several defects, including the diesel engines. The document estimated it would cost 20 million euros ($22 million US at current rates) to fix the problem. The chairman learned about the issue again on July 27, 2015, during a meeting on product issues. "Mr. Winterkorn asked for further clarification of the issue," according to VW's statement. Things got serious at the end of August 2015. Things got serious at the end of August 2015 when technicians explained the diesel issue to the legal department. VW came clean to the California Air Resources Board and the Environmental Protection Agency on September 3. A memo told Winterkorn the next day, which was also previously alleged. According to this investigation, management didn't believe the diesel problem would affect the stock price, and they estimated the cheating might cost at most a few hundred million dollars in fines. The execs were clearly wrong. The share price dropped after the scandal broke last September, and the problems have started to affect its divisions. According to Reuters, Audi reported it suffered 228 million euros ($249 million) in costs in 2015 from the emissions issue and repairing Takata's faulty airbag inflators. Volkswagen still doesn't know the exact costs of the scandal, but the automaker's law firm, Jones Day, plans to release a report in the second half of April to explain the whole affair. By that time, we might also know how VW plans to fix the problem because a judge recently gave the company until March 24 to outline a fix for the 2.0-liter TDI. CARB started evaluating a repair plan for the 3.0-liter TDI in early February.
