2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro priced from $41,285*
Fri, 29 Aug 2014Just a few weeks after announcing pricing for the first two members of its TRD Pro Series, Toyota has finally dropped the final pricing details on its new Tundra TRD Pro. Like the Tacoma TRD Pro, the Tundra will be available in two different body styles, with a more affordable Double Cab and a roomier Crew Cab.
Prices start at $41,285 for the former and $43,900 for the latter - not counting a hefty $1,100 destination charge - effectively slotting Toyota's off-road-ready model between the $41,730, Double Cab Limited and $46,465, Crew Cab-only 1794 Edition trucks.
As we've covered previously, the TRD Pro models come with a raft of off-road gear that should help combat just about any terrain a driver may stumble across. TRD-tuned Bilstein shocks and TRD-tuned front springs add two inches to the big truck's ride height while the black, 18-inch TRD wheels and available Inferno Orange paint add a bit of visual sass. A new TRD dual exhaust system is also standard, which can confirm sounds great (review coming soon!).

Tue, Nov 1 2016Ryan Tuerck recently started his Ferrari-powered Toyota GT86 for the first time, and now the pro drifter is back for a donut session in the custom-built coupe. The build included stuffing the F136 V8 from a Ferrari 458 into the GT86, so having the JDM supercar do smoky donuts around the Italian supercar just makes sense. We first heard of Tuerck and Gumout's radical plan to build a competition-only GT86 with the beating heart out of a 458 in July. Since then, Donut Media has put out updates on the vehicle as the build has progressed, ranging from the difficulties of cramming the taller and longer V8 into the Toyota to firing the beast up for the first time. We like what we see – and hear – and you can bet Tuerck's new GT86 will be starring in numerous drifting videos soon. Toyota's Lentz says fuel cells are the future, not EVs
Sun, 25 May 2014Toyota is not bullish on EVs. That comes from the company's North American CEO, Jim Lentz, who said the company will focus not on electrification, but on continued hybridization with a long-term focus on hydrogen fuel cells.
Lentz questioned the long-range ability of EVs, saying that Toyota feels "there are better alternatives, such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and tomorrow with fuel cells." Lentz spoke about Toyota's focus on hydrogen following Forbes Brainstorm Green conference and barely a week after a battery deal between Tesla and Toyota ended, according to Automotive News.
That deal provided for 2,500 battery packs for the Rav4 EV. While valuable to Toyota, the deal "was never about open-ended volume," Lentz said. "It was time to either continue or stop. My personal feeling was that I would rather invest my dollars in fuel cell development than in another 2,500 EVs."
