2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6. It had all options when purchased new in 2001 including the sunroof.

 

The truck was completed by Jason at KatKustoms in NewKnoxville Ohio. Additional pictures can be seen at his website www.katkustoms.com. Front & rear 3-link suspension on 16” travel king coilovers for smooth ride. The subframe and links are made of .120 and .250 wall DOM for strength. Front & rear sway bars using DOM and heim joints down to trussed & smoothed D60 axle housings. The axles were custom built units from Custom Differentials that used new 1 ton Ford D60 center housings (front axle uses Chevy outer knuckles) cut down to 65” WMS-WMS with disk brakes with 6 X 6.5 bolt patters. Both axles have lock right lockers and 5.38 gears installed. PSC Hydraulic steering system, including the high flow pump, to steer Mickey Thompson 46x19.5/16.5 tires on 16.5X14 Weld Scorpion wheels. The steering is a Z linked steering system designed by KatKustoms.com and provides no binding or bump steer throughout the full suspension travel. The 4-wheel drive uses Tom Woods driveline shafts mated to Dana 24 divorce mounted transfer case. A custom machined rotor is matted to the rear output of the transfer case and used as the driveline emergency brake. It will hold great at extreme angles. Every suspension part is painted red or chrome plated. The engine is the stock 3.4L V6 with AFE intake, JBA headers, magnaflow high flow converter, Gibson muffler and the entire exhaust is jet hot coated. The frame was smoothed and painted Toyota silver prior to reassembly.

 

Body mods include a custom cowl hood, bushwhacker cutout fender flares, shaved tailgate handle, snugtop carpeted bedcover, custom 26 gallon fuel cell recessed in the bed and AFE bed cover. I have the linear actuators for the tailgate and cover to open with hand held remote control. They are not installed but will be included with the truck. Front grill and bumper also have been updated to include billet inserts. The only flaw on this truck is a small dent under the driver side door. I did this with my knee getting in. 

 

The interior includes miscellaneous billet pieces for the vents, power window switch covers and several other pieces. I have an A pillar gauge pod but have not installed any gauges in it yet. The head unit is a Pioneer unit with a motorized 7” TV. Many of the trim pieces are painted to match the exterior color of the truck. 

 

The truck drives and handles great on the road. It is not a caddy but it is easy to drive once you get used to it. It has won awards in every show entered including best of show, best engineering etc. The truck was also filmed with ESPN 2 on the mothers car show series.

General Motors became second-largest US advertiser in 2013

General Motors might be mired in several recalls, as well as the ongoing investigations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Congress into the automaker's response to those recalls. However, the company can celebrate taking the title of the US' second-largest advertiser in 2013. According to Ad Week examining a recently released study, total advertising spending in the US posted its fourth consecutive year of rising expenditures with 0.9-percent growth to $140.2 billion. Of that, the auto industry spent $15.2 billion to promote its goods in 2013, up 3.8 percent.
The country's biggest advertiser was Procter and Gamble, which dropped $3.17 billion in 2013, an increase of 11.8 percent. GM became the nation's second largest promoter with $1.794 billion in spending, up 10 percent. The biggest proportion of that money went to sell Cadillac and GMC. AT&T barely lost out with $1.793 billion in advertising, 15.2 percent growth. The 10 businesses with the highest ad investments spent a cumulative $15.9 billion during the year, 6.6 percent higher than 2012. Toyota came in eighth place making it the only other automaker to rank in the top 10.
The study also indicates that there is a shift in advertising spending from television and print to the Internet. There was 15.7 percent more money outlaid to promote products online in 2013 than the previous year. In comparison, television dropped 0.1 percent, newspapers were down 3.7 percent and radio fell 5.6 percent.

Trucks, SUVs — and Camry — shine in mixed U.S. January vehicle sales

DETROIT — Automakers posted mixed U.S. new vehicle sales data for January, with American consumers continuing to abandon passenger cars for the larger pickup trucks, SUVs and crossover models that manufacturers also love because they are far more profitable. Total industry auto sales for the month rose 1 percent versus January 2016. According to Autodata Corp, which tracks industry sales, the seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) of U.S. car and light truck sales in January fell to 17.12 million units from 17.44 million a year earlier. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a January SAAR of 17.2 million units. U.S. auto industry sales fell 2 percent in 2017 to 17.23 million vehicles after hitting a record high in 2016 and are expected to drop further in 2018 despite a solid economy. Interest rates are rising and around 4 million late-model used cars will return to dealer lots this year to compete with more expensive new ones. Automakers have used consumer discounts to boost sales, a growing concern for observers who say this undermines resale values and profits. Discounts declined in January, but remained above 10 percent of manufacturers' recommended prices. ""I think the industry has accepted that (sales) volumes will fall somewhat in 2018 ... and I don't think the industry is going to go over the cliff with insane incentives," Mike Jackson, chief executive officer of AutoNation Inc, told Reuters after his company, the largest U.S. auto retail chain, posted a higher quarterly net profit. Mark Wakefield, head of the North American automotive practice for consultancy AlixPartners, had a gloomier perspective. The industry's less-than-stellar sales performance for January showed "we are now past the peak," he said. "Automakers are now selling the deal instead of the vehicle," he said. "That's a tough spot to be in because that treadmill is hard to get off once you're on it." General Motors January sales rose 1.3 percent, driven by a 16 percent rise in fleet sales. Sales to consumers fell 2.4 percent. GM posted strong gains for models such as the Silverado pickup truck and Equinox crossover model, while its passenger cars continued to struggle. Ford The Blue Oval posted a 6.6 percent sales decline for January, with retail sales down 4.3 percent. Sales of Ford's F-Series pickup trucks - America's best-selling vehicle brand for decades Β— rose 1.6 percent. Passenger cars were down more than 23 percent.

Toyota says no one wants a Toyota electric car

It's no secret that Toyota doesn't really have a heart in pushing pure electric vehicles. The very limited Scion iQ EV project was killed before it went very far and the RAV4 EV project with Tesla was always only meant to produce just 2,600 units, but it didn't even get that far. In short, by all public appearances, Toyota just doesn't see the value of a pure EV. "No one is coming to our door asking us to build a new electric car." – Toyota's Craig Scott Toyota's public reasoning for the lack of a Prius C EV, for example, has often been that customers don't want to compromise on range and that hydrogen is a better bet. Company executives like Bob Carter say so over and over again. A new comment by Craig Scott, Toyota's national manager of advanced technologies, says that the Japanese automaker, give a slightly different spin on things. "Toyota actually favors fuel cells over other zero-emission vehicles, like pure battery electric vehicles," he told the Los Angeles Times. "We would like to be still selling cars when there's no more gas. And no one is coming to our door asking us to build a new electric car." This, understandably, has riled up a lot of EV supporters, many of whom have called on all automakers to sell more electric vehicles. After all, if Nissan can sell around 3,000 EVs a month in the US, couldn't Toyota do something similar? Are there thousands of people coming to the door asking for the fuel cell sedan that Toyota will start selling in the US next year? That answer is unclear, but it certainly doesn't look like Toyota is backing off its H2 bet any time soon.
