1987 Toyota Pickup 4wd Short Bed All Original "real Low Mileage Survivor." on 2040-cars
Swannanoa, North Carolina, United States
You are looking at a 1987 Toyota pickup, 4wd short bed, and probably the most original, low mileage truck left out there. Sorry, couldn't find a listing for these trucks, so I had to list it as a Tacoma. Below is a brief description. Exterior: This truck mainly appears to be all original, right down to the paint. I can't see anywhere that it has had paint work or any kind of accident, shine is just gone on the top surfaces. Even has the original stripes on the sides. Front bumper is some kind of aftermarket with a Ramsey winch, has a matching camper top, and aluminum wheels, that's all I can see that is not factory. Have no idea if winch works, but it's all there. She has the typical rust in the driver's bedside where the lower panels meet up, and a small spot on the passenger's. Front fenders have holes above tires, I can buy these for $80 a piece c.a.p.a certified aftermarket if the new owner wants them and I also can get the lower side pieces even cheaper. Frame is solid in all the places they rot. Doors, rockers, cab corners, floors, pretty much everything else on the truck seems to be very dry, rust free, and not beat up or abused. Inside of the bed has a liner, pulling it up, seems like it's been in there since new. Floor is nice, just scratched from liner. Tailgate is in amazing shape, rear chrome bumper looks nice as well. Interior: The gray insides are original also, and in super condition to be almost 30 years old. Headliner is not sagging and is clean. Seat is cloth and not worn or ripped at all. Door panels are not peeling up or trashed and still look new. Dash has some sun cracks, other than that, it's good to go. Carpet needs a good cleaning. Very nice in my opinion. Drivetrain: Everyone knows how popular these 4wd trucks have always been, especially with the 2200r engine and a 5 speed tranny. This one runs exactly like it should with only 87,000 original miles. When I got it, it had been sitting for years. I had it looked over by my local mechanic, made sure all the 4wd stuff worked as it should, so all it needed that he could see was to be tuned up, put a brand new clutch in it, as well as a radiator. There is no drips or spots on my driveway from leaks, engine looks good and dry. Almost new Goodyear Wrangler 235/75/15 tires on aluminum wheels. Sorry guys, no a/c, but the heat is toasty. In closing, you will be hard pressed to find one of these trucks with this kind of mileage, for this reserve price, and in this condition. Attention: I HAVE NOT CLEANED A THING ON THIS TRUCK. I want the new owner to see it in it's original condition the way I recieved it. This way nothing is hidden or doctored up in an attempt to deceive bidders. Please check my feedback before bidding, I pride myself on describing my vehicles accurately and everyone always seems to be happy. With that said, don't assume anything, ask me any questions you may have about it and you'll get a truthful answer. I just, this week, paid the mechanic over $800 for all the work done to ensure no problems to the new owner. Also be advised, almost all my auctions end early with a serious offer, so don't wait until the end if you really want one of my vehicles. If you have a feedback score of 10 or less, or a negative score, please contact me before bidding or it will be canceled. These ads are expensive and I have had problems lately with non payers and slow payers. Thanks for your understanding and for taking a look at my auctions, don't hesitate to contact me with any concerns. Take care and good luck. |

How to fix a $4,000 hybrid battery problem with vinegar and baking soda
Wed, Feb 18 2015This is one of those 'Don't try this at home if you don't know what you're doing' DIY tales. Two weeks after imgur user "scoodidabop" bought a used Toyota Camry Hybrid with no warranty, he got the Christmas Tree dash display with warnings like "Check VSC System," "Check Hybrid System," and the Check Engine light. After some Internet sleuthing he figured it could be a faulty brake actuator, assuming the hybrid system warning was a false alarm. But it wasn't the actuator, it was the battery, a Toyota dealer telling him that his battery had "gone bad," and he'd need $4,457 to replace it. Then he had a brainstorm: it could be one of the cells that's gone bad, not the whole battery. Scoodidabop has some experience as an electrician, so he figured he could test it and replace any bad cells for about $45 apiece. He removed the battery unit from the trunk and over the course of two hours tested all 68 cells four times. He found nothing wrong. So he devised another type of test and checked every cell again. He couldn't find a problem with any of them. Turns out the problem wasn't in the cells, but with the dirty and corroded copper connectors at the ends of the high-voltage cables. He pulled the 34 connectors and their steel nuts, soaked them in vinegar, gave them a light steel wool scrub, soaked them in baking soda and water to counteract the vinegar, applied an anticorrosive and reinstalled them. That took an hour. When he replaced the battery, the warning lights had all gone out and the battery worked perfectly. Skill level: experience. Cost: less than $10. Perhaps it's time for hybrids to be able to test their own cells individually. Dealers, too.
Hurricane Sandy cost automakers 15,000 vehicles, may have ruined up to 200k
Wed, 07 Nov 2012Hurricane Sandy was the largest Atlantic storm in US history, and its total economic impact is just now coming into view. According to Automotive News, Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda are set to scrap around 15,000 new vehicles ruined by the storm. Nissan alone accounts for about 40 percent of those, with 6,000 Nissan and Infiniti models deeded "un-saleable" due to damage. The company saw 56 dealerships shuttered due to the storm, but 51 of those have since reopened.
Toyota, meanwhile, had some 4,000 vehicles at its Newark port facility, and of those, 3,000 may be scrapped. An additional 825 were dealer inventory when they were ruined. Honda and Acura dealers are reportedly sending 3,440 vehicles to the salvage yard. By comparison, Chrysler weathered the storm fairly well with 825 units destroyed, while Hyundai suffered only 400 lost units and Kia scrapped around 200.
As you may recall, Fisker also suffered some losses, and Automotive News reports the manufacturer saw 320 Karma models damaged beyond repair. Ford and General Motors have yet to come up with estimates, and no automaker has commented on the full cost of replacing the vehicles.
BMW tops Consumer Reports 2023 Brand Report Card
Thu, Feb 16 2023Feels like we wrote about Consumer Reports' 2022 Brand Report Car and 10 Top Picks a few weeks ago, but it was last April. So the mag is back with a ranked roster of 32 brands and 10 vehicles in four categories for your debating pleasure. Starting with the brands, last year's top three were Subaru, Mazda and BMW. This year, the Munich crew climbed two spots to win the prize thanks to "Superb road test scores and solid results in CR’s reliability and owner satisfaction surveys." Subaru narrowly fell to second, maintaining its four-year run in the top three. Mini, eighth last year, jumped five spots to get the last step on the podium. The rest of the top 10 were Lexus (up one spot from last year), Honda (down one spot from last year), Toyota (up three), Genesis (up 12), Mazda (down six), Audi (down three) and Kia (up eight). The magazine and testing outfit says its Brand Report Card "[reveals] which automakers are producing the most well-performing, safe, and reliable vehicles based on CRÂ’s independent testing and member surveys," and that "Brands that rise to the top tend to have the most consistent performance across their model lineups." Last year's top 10 had six automakers from Japan, three from Germany (giving Mini credit for England), none from the U.S. or South Korea, and five luxury brands. This year's list counts five makes from Japan, two from Germany because Porsche fell out of the top ten, two from South Korea, still none from the U.S., and four luxury brands. Buick again ranked as the best domestic, dropping to 12th after being 11th last year. The big mover was Lincoln, its 10-place jump up to 16th attributed to better reliability from the Corsair and Nautilus. Tesla's improved overall reliability saw it climb six spots to 17th. Dodge climbed one spot to 15th. Jeep got out of the penalty box in last to come second-to-last. Land Rover fell three places into the penalty spot. CR's top 10 vehicle models The 10 Top Picks list is practically a new list. Only two holdovers made it to 2023, those being the Subaru Forester and Kia Telluride.
