1990 Toyota Supra, factory turbo model, targa, OEM silver paint (paint
code 176), clean TN title in hand, no liens, 197,000 miles on chassis,
roughly 70,000 miles on motor and trans. The car received a 1JZ-GTE swap
(Non VVTI) in late 2007 by a performance shop in California. The car
was also re-sprayed in the OEM color around the same time. 3rd owner,
the car has had the same owner for the past 7 years (was purchased while
the car was being swapped with 1JZ), and has been driven almost 20,000
miles since receiving the 1JZ swap. The car has only been used in the
past seven years as a warm weather car, and has been kept at home during
the Winter months (usually from late November to early March. There is
no rush at all to sell the car, it is only being sold due to a lack of
interest and space.
The 1JZ swap feels completely stock and drives extremely well. The car would have zero issues completing a long distance trip. There's no smoke or leaks from the engine, and the turbo is very healthy with minimal lag. The R154 shifts well through every gear, and there are no issues related to grinding. The body is great shape for its age, no rust, and only a couple of small barely noticeable door dings. The only thing the car could use at this point is possibly a good quality respray. Mods: 1JZ-GTE with R154 (roughly 70k on engine) JDM 440s (flow test and cleaned by DM in 2012, flowed 480 across the board at stock pressure) Drift Motion 57trim with .58 A/R, Garrett internals (less than 3000 miles) Drift Motion Intercooler 31x24x12 w/ 2.5 Inch Hardpipes (partially welded to prevent boost leak) 3 Inch Downpipe, Custom Made Midpipe, and Exhaust (no cats, one resonator) Blitz Access 5 Speed ECU (no fuel cut, speed cut, increased rev limit, serviced by Drift Motion in 2012) Blitz Dual SBC (installed, but not currently in use) HKS Blow-off Valve 46mm Wastegate Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator Denso TT Fuel Pump AEM Wideband and Boost 52MM Gauges (both digital and placed in a Lotek dual pillar pod) 6 Puck Stage 3 Clutch (rated at ~500whp, 5000 miles on clutch) Eibach Springs Suspension Techniques Sway Bars (both front and rear) Adjustable End Links Misc: ARP Headstuds, new head gasket June 2008 by Del Motorsports (preventive maintenance) Valve seals replaced in June 2008 Alternator replaced in July 2008 Upper ball joints (~2000 miles ago) Inner and outer ties rods, power steering bellows (~2000 miles ago) New OEM rotors, Stoptech pads, new brake fluid (~3000 miles ago) The hot-side of the intercooler piping is TIG welded in order to prevent boost leak LS400 Clutch fan, 7M-GTE fan blade Motor uses Mobil 1 full synthetic, changed every 2500-3000 miles Transmission is using Redline MT-90 (~5000 miles) Rear end is the 3.73 Aftermarket DVD head unit, pioneer speakers Car comes with factory Lexus SC300 wheels with all season tires that has over 80 tread-wear left. 2015 Toyota Prius C is still colorful, still gets 53 mpg
Wed, 19 Nov 2014Few vehicles can match the affordable fuel economy of the $19,000, 53-mile-per-gallon Toyota Prius C, and that fact isn't likely to change for 2015, as the Japanese company has issued a moderate refresh of its sub-compact hybrid.
As mid-cycle refreshes go, this is a pretty standard affair, with a larger grille and tweaked LED headlights at the front of the Prius C, and more expressive taillights at the back. Toyota made some minor changes in the cabin, updating materials throughout, but not fiddling too much with the overall level of equipment.
Aside from those modest changes, this is the same fuel-efficient five-door, retaining its 1.5-liter, 73-horsepower, 82-pound-foot four-cylinder, while an electric motor tosses in an extra 26 ponies, for a total system output of 99 horsepower. Along with the 53-mpg highway rating, the C will return 46 mpg in the city.
Toyota i-ROAD leans its way into the city [w/video]
Mon, 04 Mar 2013According to Toyota, the "i-ROAD takes the company closer to its goal of creating the ultimate range of eco cars." As you're surely aware, that range of eco cars includes the enormously successful Prius family, but this new machine is nothing like the hybrid hatchback. And it's not even a car - Toyota calls the i-ROAD a Personal Mobility Vehicle.
Toyota's i-ROAD Concept, which debuts at this week's Geneva Motor Show, is adorned with just three wheels, meaning it's just as much a motorcycle as it is a car, and the driver and passenger sit in tandem style instead of side-by-side. This arrangement allows for a very thin 850mm width, which is about the same as a large motorcycle. Because the cockpit is enclosed, the occupants don't need helmets, nor are they open to the elements outside.
Also like a traditional two-wheeler, the i-ROAD tilts through the turns and when driving on uneven surfaces. Toyota says its computer-controlled Active Lean technology automatically balances the vehicle with no input from the driver.
Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for
Mon, Nov 27 2017The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
