1992, All Original, Supra With Turbo, Leather, Removable Top, And Only 92,000 Mi on 2040-cars

Rare, completely
original 1992 Toyota Supra MKIII, with turbo, automatic transmission, 92,000 miles,
leather, and removable roof panel. This car has all options. The last year of
this body style, the ’92 is the most sophisticated design and best of its run
(according to car magazine reviews of the day). Teal blue paint is original and
in excellent shape considering its 22 years in the So Cal sunshine. There is a
barely noticeable ding or two in the door panel from a car door opening into it
in a parking lot. And a barely noticeable abrasion mark about 6 inches long on
the right front bumper that can probably be buffed out. The paint is also
beginning to show signs of oxidation here and there in the clear-coat (that can
also probably be buffed out). The
oxidation can be seen mainly on the roof panel and rear bumper/spoiler area. The
black trim around the rear lift-back glass and black paint on wiper arms shows
some sun damage (see pics). Interior is very good (dash is perfect, no splits)
but passenger seat (now covered) recently developed a crack and split open in
the seat area. The previous owner shortened the driver floor mat, it apparently
curled up and interfered with pedals but hasn’t while I’ve owned it. The rest
of the interior is new car clean and all the controls/gadgets work as they
should. The retractable cargo cover works and is in good shape except for some cosmetic
peeling of the pigmented coating that covers a non-moving part of it. The
factory CD/Tape/radio is installed (has never been out as far as I know) and
everything associated with it works except the CD play head is slightly out of
alignment causing one stereo channel to playback quietly relative to the other.
The antenna raises and lowers as it should. The engine runs great and transmission
shifts smoothly (many do not, I've heard). This car has been adult owned and
driven, and has received regular maintenance since new. I have maintenance
records back to year 2000. All maintenance was performed by the dealer that
sold the car new until 2008 (Toyota of Cerritos, CA). All the maintenance I’ve
done since then has been by either a local San Diego Toyota dealership or a
long-time trusted mechanic who owns an established local repair shop. All
rubber hoses and tubing replaced in 2010. Battery is about a year old. New
tires around 10k miles ago. This car is reliable and tight. No rattles at all. No
leaks. Drives and sounds like a new car but better because you seldom see
another one on the road and it gets more compliments than any new car I’ve ever
owned. I found this car in a small dealership near Los Angeles in 2008 after
the original owner traded it in on a new Toyota from the dealer that sold him
the Supra in 1992 (mileage was about 72,000). The dealer wholesaled it to Ray’s
auto where I found it. I contacted the original owner and he told me the car’s
history. The dealership that originally sold the car gave me a computer printout
of the maintenance performed but their history only went back to year 2000.

How many Toyotas are potentially affected by seat fabric problem?
Fri, 31 Jan 2014When we reported yesterday on Toyota's stop-sale order of certain 2013 and 2014 models due to an issue with the fabrics on models with heated seats not conforming to flammability regulations, one of our many questions was how many vehicles were affected? More importantly, how many of those cars have already found homes?
Kelley Blue Book has the troubling statistics. Every 2013 and 2014 Avalon features heated seats. 6.2-percent of 2013 and 4.5-percent of 2014 Camry sedans, meanwhile, were sold with heated seats. That doesn't seem as bad as 100-percent of the larger Avalon, until you consider the Camry's huge volume - the 5.6-percent average still accounts for a lot of cars. Sienna minivans are heavily affected as well, with a total of 37-percent of 2013s and 46-percent of 2014s fitted with butt warmers. The stop-sale only affects 7-percent of 2014 Corolla models, but like the Camry, that number is rather misleading due to the sheer volume of cars Toyota moves. You can see the entire breakdown of percentages by clicking on the inset image.
According to Karl Brauer, a senior analyst for KBB, this problem comes at the worst possible time. "Given that much of the US is currently in the grips of a record cold snap, there's sure to be high demand for models with seat heaters," Brauer notes. The stop-sale order is a good first step, but it doesn't do anything to inform consumers who currently own the affected models and may, in these frosty temperatures, want to use their seat heaters. "Should owners of those vehicles stop using the seat heaters?" Brauer asked.
Toyota vows to fix poor Camry crash test result that irked Consumer Reports
Tue, 10 Dec 2013Many Toyota vehicles haven't been performing well in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) small overlap frontal crash test, and the Camry is one of them. The 2012 and 2013 Camry both received "Poor" ratings, IIHS' lowest rating, in the test, which spurred Consumer Reports to take the car off its "Recommended" list. In response to the low ratings in the small overlap frontal test, and in a bid to maintain its best-seller status, Toyota will make changes to the Camry to improve its IIHS safety rating and to enhance its design, The Detroit News reports.
The Camry performed well in the moderate overlap frontal, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats crash tests, receiving "Good" ratings, IIHS' highest rating, in all four tests. That was enough for IIHS to award it a Top Safety Pick rating, just not TSP+.
Bill Fay, head of Toyota's US division, reportedly says, "It's still a five-star car. It still does very well in all the IIHS tests. It did not in [the small overlap frontal crash test], and we're busy making the necessary adjustments so that we can address that."
No diesels in the running for 2016 Green Car Of The Year
Thu, Oct 15 2015It's a new era for the Green Car Of The Year. In the past, the theme of the award was to take a broad look at alternative powertrains and pick the best among them. "Clean diesels" from the Volkswagen group were often among the finalists and won the award twice. For the 2016 edition - which will be handed out at the LA Auto Show next month - not a single diesel made the list. There's little wonder why. Green Car Journal, which names the winner with a panel of experts, had to strip two VW brand vehicles of their past wins. The 2009 VW Jetta TDI, which won in 2008, and the 2010 Audi A3 TDI, which won in 2010, have both lost their titles now that the world knows about the "defeat devices" that VW installed in many of its TDI vehicles around the world. So, what does that leave us with for 2016? Two plug ins, a hybrid, and two gas vehicles. The two electric vehicle are the Audi A3 e-tron and the Chevy Volt, while the all-new Toyota Prius (which will come with a plug-in version later) is the lone pure hybrid. Rounding out the pack are two efficient gas models: the Hyundai Sonata and the Honda Civic. This is the tenth year for the Green Car Of The Year, and it will be interesting to see if diesels can come back into the award's good graces (for the record, no diesels were among the finalists in 2013, either) in the future. For now, we'd like to know who you think should win. You can read more about the finalists in the press release below and then cast your vote in our poll. The 2016 models include the Audi A3 e-tron, Chevrolet Volt, Honda Civic, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Prius. An increasing number of vehicle models are considered for the Green Car of the Year® program each year, a reflection of the auto industry's expanding efforts in offering new vehicles with higher efficiency and improved environmental impact. Green Car Journal has been honoring the most important "green" vehicles every year at the LA Auto Show, since its inaugural award announced at the show in 2005.
