Interior in excellent condition, with expected wear and some carpet discoloration (rubber mats in place front and back since new) but no large stains or area of carpet damage. 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV

Excellent condition, for sale by original owner.  No issues with this vehicle -- we would be trading it in eventually but are relocating overseas so wish to sell it now so we're not rushing to sell it right before we leave.

This is an SR5 model, but has many of the more desirable options found on the Limited models.  It has the Limited power folding mirrors with turn signals, the Limited HomeLink rear view mirror, and tan leather throughout.  The dealer added matching DVD headrest players (with wireless headphones) but the original headrests (in perfect condition) are included, and can immediately be replaced if desired.  Factory CD/MP3/Bluetooth audio system works great, as does the hands-free Bluetooth telephone.

The vehicle has been garage kept since new, has no rust issues whatsoever, nor has it ever seen water, hail, or other damaging weather.  No body damage or previously repaired body damage whatsoever.  Has the expected scratches and chips -- but nothing that would require body work to repair.  Firestone tires are 2 years old, and have excellent tread life remaining.

All electronics and power features work as new.  No "sticky" windows, door locks, etc.  No cuts or tears in the seats, carpet, or dash -- there is a tiny superficial split below the seam on the side of the driver seat, which is shown in the photo.  It's about 2 centimeters in length, and is just from getting in and out of the driver seat.  It is in the vinyl sidewall of the seat, and does not extend up to the seating surface (which is leather), and is unlikely to worsen.  Can be easily repaired, but would probably just leave it alone.

Buyer responsible for arranging pick up or shipping -- will store vehicle for 30 days after auction close.  Non-refundable deposit due at auction close, and payment must clear my bank (Bank of America) prior to vehicle pick up or delivery.  Clear title is in-hand.

Vehicle for sale locally.  I reserve the right to end the auction once sold locally.  Please ask any questions prior to auction close.  Good luck, and thanks for looking!

2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

People, us included, make a big stink about the importance of family sedans. There's no doubt they're critical - they represent a huge slice of the market's annual sales and profits. However, despite accounting for far fewer transactions than the midsize sedan segment, the fullsize sedan is getting attention from manufacturers now that our market's entire lineup of those (slightly) smaller four-doors has turned over in the last two years or so. As most of the fullsize segment's mainstays derive a fair bit of their platform and powertrain technologies from their midsize cousins, these larger four-doors offer the potential for fatter profit margins, too. And with the newly stylish duds found on many of the industry's most successful midsize sedans, it's only right that automakers no longer think about fullsizers as big, squishy, vanilla family haulers with flat seats, vague steering and a thin layer of 'luxury' in the form of faux wood trim.
As manufacturers have again started diving into large sedans feet-first, the cars themselves have become sharper. The interiors are now of a higher quality and loaded with tech, while the exteriors have become further extensions of each manufacturer's design language. There's perhaps no greater example of this than the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus, two models that evolved from subpar offerings into market leaders. This segment-wide transformation happened quite quickly, whether because of coincidental timing or because manufacturers are trying to get more out of their big cars, recognizing they account for a small portion of overall sales (just 3.5 percent of the new-car market in the first half of 2013).
The 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is one such vehicle. We remarked on the changes to the V6 variant last year, and while we previously had a quick steer of the gas-electric hybrid, we figured the new model was worth a closer week-long look.

Toyota casts off in Ponam-31 motor yacht [w/video]

Sun, 12 Oct 2014

Some Japanese automakers focus purely on cars, while others dabble in all sorts of motorized transportation. Honda, for example, makes everything from motorbikes to jet aircraft. But while Toyota may be known principally for automobiles, it also makes a line of boats. And this is the latest.
The new Toyota Ponam-31 motor yacht is built around an aluminum hull with a flybridge and cockpit rear deck layout, similar to the Carver 32 on which this writer spent his childhood summers. It measures 31 feet overall and is powered by a pair of 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engines derived from the Land Cruiser Prado (known in these parts as the Lexus GX 460) but marinized for nautical application. Toyota has even equipped its new Sports Utility Cruiser with such features as Drive Assist and a Virtual Anchor System.
Toyota expects to sell around 15 units of the Ponam-31 through its network of 49 dealers across Japan, with prices starting at 29,700,000 yen (about $27,500 at today's conversion rates). Scroll down below for a video, along with a press release, meant to show potential customers what's waiting for them.

Weekly Recap: Toyota wants cars to be your 'close friends' around 2020

Sat, Oct 10 2015

Toyota confirmed plans this week to launch autonomous technology in its production cars around 2020. The automaker's version is called Highway Teammate, and it's one element of a broader mobility strategy that includes vehicles communicating with each other and the grid. "Toyota believes that interactions between drivers and cars should mirror those between close friends who share a common purpose, sometimes watching over each other and sometimes helping each other out," the company said in a statement. That sounds utopian, and perhaps a bit cheesy, but it's an acknowledgment that autonomous driving requires more than technology developed in a vacuum. Toyota is looking at its research in a broader context, and dubs its overall strategy the Mobility Teammate Concept. Highway Teammate is the first step. Its test vehicle is a modified Lexus GS, which uses road-mapping data and external sensors to merge or exit highways, change lanes, and maintain safe distances during driving. It's operated on the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo. Toyota has been working on autonomous tech since the 1990s, with the goal of providing mobility for older people and the disabled, as well as lowering the frequency of traffic accidents. Toyota's push comes as an early adopter, Nissan, is hedging on its own deadline to implement the autonomous tech by 2020 due to a lack of firm laws governing self-driving cars around the world. Conversely, Volvo took the landmark step of being the first automaker to accept liability for when its cars will operate in autonomous mode, and urged the US government to set federal guidelines to regulate the technology. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 BMW M4 GTS: Your water-injected, turbo-boosted demon BMW is unleashing its most powerful M4 ever, a 493-horsepower special edition that's road legal yet bred for the track. The company is making 700 copies for sale around the world, and 300 of them will come to the United States. The twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder revs to 7,600 rpm and uses a water-injection technology to cool the intake air and lower the compression temperature. BMW says this allows it to wring more power out of the inline six. The car also uses carbon-fiber reinforced plastic for the roof, hood, engine compartment strut brace, drive shaft, and rear spoiler to reduce weight. The M4 features BMW's organic light-emitting diode taillights, which are said to be an industry first.
