Leaked Toyota FT-86 Open concept images preview droptop Scion FR-S [w/video]
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Here it is, folks - the highly anticipated Toyota FT-86 Open concept, a precursor to what could become a road-going Scion FR-S convertible. A full smattering of images and video have leaked onto the internet, and thanks to the folks at FT86Club.com, we can now see the new hotness that Toyota will be unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
These images confirm details that were first seen in spy shots captured a couple of weeks ago - namely, the larger wheel/tire package and the inclusion of the Toyobaru coupe's decidedly useless rear seats. These new photos, however, show a two-tone leather interior with goodies such as an iPod/iPhone mount on the dashboard. The concept car is also fitted with the coupe's six-speed automatic transmission (boo!) and FT86Club.com reports that the folding soft top is operated electronically.
We'll have the full details live from Geneva in just a few days. For now, click through our attached image gallery to see lots of pretty pictures of the topless wonder, and scroll down for a video to see the concept in motion.
Next Lotus Elise to draw from its roots
Wed, Jul 27 2016Recently-appointed Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales told Autocar that work on the new Lotus Elise, which is coming in 2020, is already underway, and thanks to growing sales, the automaker is set to make a profit for the first time in 20 years. Gales also dropped some details about the new sports cars' design philosophy and underpinnings. According to the report, the new Elise will utilize the same aluminum chassis technology found in the original Elise and won't bear any resemblance to the 2010 Elise concept. Instead, the upcoming vehicle will uphold its roots with a lightweight design that emphasizes driver involvement at an affordable price. The new Elise is rumored to weigh in at roughly 1,984 pounds, almost 384 pounds more than the original Elise. In order to meet US crash ratings, the Elise will most likely be wider, but have the same length as the current model. Power will probably come from a Toyota unit producing between 134 horsepower and 245 horsepower. The Elise is expected to come to the US where it will be offered with a manual and automatic transmission, which will both come from Toyota as well. Gales claims Lotus has more orders now than in any year in the last 10 years, with the US being one of the automaker's most important markets. Related Video:
Toyota promotes Didier Leroy as highest-ranked foreigner
Wed, Jun 17 2015Toyota named Didier Leroy its first non-Japanese executive vice president Wednesday. He also sits on the company's board of directors. This follows Leroy's promotion in April, when he was named president of Toyota No. 1, the division which overseas R&D, manufacturing, sales, product planning, design, motorsports... pretty much everything for North America, Europe, and Africa, as well as sales in Japan. Leroy had served until now as head of Toyota's European operations, and will remain based at the company's regional headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The appointment follows the earlier promotion of Julie Hamp. Previously group vice president at Toyota Motor North America, Hamp now serves as the company's global chief communications officer and is based in Japan, making her the first female senior executive in Toyota's history. Didier Leroy appointed as first non-Japanese Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Corporation Mr Leroy was officially appointed today President of Toyota No. 1, which covers R&D, manufacturing and sales for the North America, Europe, and Africa regions; the Japan Sales Business Group; and the Product Planning, Design and Motorsports functions related to the Toyota No.1 regional scope. Toyota City, Japan - Today, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) officially appointed Didier Leroy as President of Toyota N°1 at TMC. The appointment took place at the 111th General Shareholders meeting. In this responsibility, Mr Leroy will oversee the R&D, manufacturing and sales operations for the North America, Europe and Africa regions; the Japan Sales Business Group; and the Product Planning, Design and Motorsports functions related to the Toyota No.1 regional scope.
