1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo/T-top in excellent condition with a very low 63,521 miles. Triple black with the desired turbo engine and T-top features. The car has spent all of its life in the southern/mid-west region and was recently delivered from Green's Toyota in Lexington, Kentucky. Exterior is in very good condition with no dents or dings. Still sporting its original tuxedo black paint, the finish has little or no fading, any imperfections are limited to a small number of minor stone marks that are too small to appear in the photographs. The interior has been perfectly preserved with no rips, tears or cracks. All the gauges, switches, lights and dials are fully operational -- the LCD clock keeps perfect time. A Greedy-brand boost gauge has been added along with an updated JVC am/fm/cd quadraphonic stereo system, otherwise the interior is in original, unmarked condition. This MR2 also comes equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, power windows & door locks, power mirrors and fully charged A/C. The car has recently had its 60,000 mile service including the installation of new timing belt and alternator along with a full tune up. It runs, drives and handles just the way it is supposed to with no issues. Yokohama performance tires are in great shape with more than 70% tread remaining. Original owners manual and service receipts are included. The 2nd generation MR2 is capable of delivering close to super-car performance with styling inspired by the Ferrari 355. Following its introduction in 1991, the MR2 quickly became nicknamed ''the baby Ferrari'' by Road & Track Magazine. Toyota engineers equipped the car with solid performance and gave it very exotic looks that always turn heads on the street. The 2-liter turbo develops 200 horsepower, 200 foot-pounds of torque and 0-to-60 times of less than 6 seconds, while delivering gas mileage between 17 - 29 mpg. If you have always wanted a 2nd generation MR2, it would be very, very difficult to locate one as nice as this. These cars were only produced for the American market for a few years and pristine examples such as this are almost impossible to find .. they are quickly becoming a collector classic that is appreciating in value. Owner reflects on his $20.91 Toyota unintended acceleration settlement check
Sat, Nov 29 2014Where General Motors and Takata have grabbed many auto safety-related headlines this year with their problems with ignition switches and airbag inflators, a few years ago, a similar sort of scrutiny fell on Toyota for unintended acceleration. After multiple settlements with various parties totaling billions of dollars, the issues seem largely behind the Japanese automaker now. Owners are actually starting to receive their money, but it isn't exactly breaking the bank. Payouts are expected to be between $37 and $125 per person. Computer science student Jonathan Sourbeer received a check for just $20.91, and he considers what that money actually means in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. Sourbeer's biggest gripe is that the roughly 85 lawyers in the case are receiving $227 million in attorneys' fees and expenses, while the 25 primary plaintiffs and class representatives receive a total of just $395,270. According to the Frequently Asked Questions about the settlement, Toyota set up a $250 million fund to pay affected owners, as well. The money isn't for injuries or damages but for alleged economic loss to the vehicles. However, Sourbeer says he feels no personal suffering and still has the same car. In addition to the settlement, the automaker obviously has its own legal fees to deal with, as well. Sourbeer wonders how this is all going to affect Toyotas in the future. Obviously, the money has to come from somewhere, and it likely gets amortized over the company's vehicles in the coming years to add a few dollars to each one. That puts the problem back onto customers. Anyone involved in a class-action suit has likely seen this happen first hand. The lawyers take a large chunk of the money, and the rest is distributed in tiny morsels to those actually affected. Unfortunately, Sourbeer offers no solutions beyond saying the system needs to change.
Leaked Toyota FT-86 Open concept images preview droptop Scion FR-S [w/video]
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Here it is, folks - the highly anticipated Toyota FT-86 Open concept, a precursor to what could become a road-going Scion FR-S convertible. A full smattering of images and video have leaked onto the internet, and thanks to the folks at FT86Club.com, we can now see the new hotness that Toyota will be unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
These images confirm details that were first seen in spy shots captured a couple of weeks ago - namely, the larger wheel/tire package and the inclusion of the Toyobaru coupe's decidedly useless rear seats. These new photos, however, show a two-tone leather interior with goodies such as an iPod/iPhone mount on the dashboard. The concept car is also fitted with the coupe's six-speed automatic transmission (boo!) and FT86Club.com reports that the folding soft top is operated electronically.
We'll have the full details live from Geneva in just a few days. For now, click through our attached image gallery to see lots of pretty pictures of the topless wonder, and scroll down for a video to see the concept in motion.
Ford barely edges surging Chrysler for Canadian sales crown in best year ever
Thu, Jan 8 2015The auto industry in the US showed strong results through much of 2014 with sales regularly growing year-over-year for many brands. That same trend carried over in the Great White North, as well. Canada posted its best numbers ever with 1.85 million units sold, up about 100,000 vehicles over 2013. The country nearly had a new market leader, too. The big winner among our neighbors to the north in 2014 was Ford with 291,951 vehicles sold, up 3 percent from 2013, according to Reuters. That success also handed the company the sales crown for the fifth consecutive year. In large part, the strong result came from the company's popular trucks, which represented about 80 percent of overall sales. "Ford moved into the number one position in September and didn't look back," said a note to clients by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants quoted by Reuters. However, the Blue Oval didn't exactly take an overwhelming lead for the year. The company nearly had to hand over the sales trophy to FCA after the company rallied in the latter part of the year. The Italian-American conglomerate had its best results ever to nip at the Ford's heels and move 290,004 units for 2014, a 12-percent improvement from last year. Jeep especially helped the bottom line with over 50-percent growth, according to Reuters. Only two other brands were able to break the 200,000-vehicle barrier in Canada for 2014. General Motors came in third place overall with 249,800 sales, up 6.3 percent. The combined Toyota and Lexus also barely jumped the hurdle with 200,851 units moved, a 2.8 percent improvement.
