1980 – Pac Man is introduced. CNN becomes the first 24hrs News Station. Post-It Notes are invented. Meanwhile, Toyota Motors introduced its best Land Cruiser yet. For a half-century, over a million Land Cruisers have traversed paths from the South Pole to the Sahara. What are you waiting for?
The best word to describe this 1980 Mustard Yellow FJ40 is definitely "ORIGINAL". I can't tell you about the restoration because there hasn't been any restoration. You're bidding on a Beautiful, One Owner, Numbers Matching, Original, Documented 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser with 35K original miles. It has Power Steering AND Air Conditioning which makes this a pretty darn rare and sought after Land Cruiser.
Original paint, frame, body 2F Motor, 4-Speed Transmission, factory-original AM radio, interior, gauges, seats, doors, door panels, glass, fenders, floors, tub, hood, top, bumpers, etc. This rust-free FJ40, looks, runs and drives excellent, never repainted, never restored, always cared for, garaged and maintained. EVERYTHING is in good working order. The original wheels were swapped for white spokes but we have the original wheels and two of the original tires.
Motor
Pop this venerable FJ's hood and you'll find an original 135 horsepower 2F six cylinder which looks and runs great! Based on General Motor's stalwart Stovebolt Six, Toyota's famous overhead valve mill has certainly proven its ability to get this compact 4x4 out of many tight situations and tow just about any moderately sized toy its owners can imagine. The owner swapped the carburetor for a Holley carb but we have the original carb. She comes with headers but we have the original exhaust manifold too.
Body / Drivetrain / Suspension
This old school SUV offers four wheel drive and enough ground clearance to get over obstacles. The truck's original 4-speed manual transmission serves up an awesome combination of off-roading prowess. Front disc and rear drum brake combination will bring all you to a quick and uneventful stop.
This Toyota's suspension consists of rugged solid axles and leaf springs, shackels and coil over shock absorbers at both ends. At the back of the truck's frame you will find bumperettes flanking a hitch for light towing. Under it all you will find 15 inch white spokes with new 31x10.5 R15LT and Warn hubs.
Summary Inside this iconic Land Cruiser you'll find a spacious and comfortable driving environment that has enough room to be your vehicle of choice for weekend adventures. The firm front, and folding opposing rear seat are wrapped in high quality OEM vinyl covers. Heavy duty OEM rubber floor mats in front and back. In front of the driver, a perfect dash pad, clear gauges and controls for the truck's accessories. Between the front passengers, two simple black shifters, one for the 4-speed transmission and one for the four-wheel drive system. The space between the front seats you will find the OEM center console. Connecting the driver to the road is a factory issue steering wheel which spins around the vintage "Toyota" emblem. The sale of this FJ40 includes the factory tool kit, jack, jack rods, touch up paint cans and owners manual. There are no dents, dings or damage to the body and no rust. The interior is flawless as well. The color is the original Toyota Mustard Yellow (paint code 532).
The 2F engine is strong and smooth and runs excellent. The body and frame are free of rust. The floors are all solid, rust free and clean! All turn signals, lights, wipers, washers, taillights, backup lights, license plate lights, side markers and all gauges work perfectly. Original seat upholstery, headliner and both interior door panels are in beautiful condition.
The quality of this FJ40 is extreme. You will be unable to drive it without numerous waves, smiles and thumbs up! High bidder is responsible for pick up or delivery, I will assist in any way I can. I would like a wire transfer within 5 business days.
This is one very cool SUV that's still every bit as functional today as it was in when it drove off the showroom floor. It's very tight, rattle free and is quite and capable. It's the kind of cool piece that would be right at home parked at your favorite Friday night dive next to other vintage cars, or perched on a mountain conquering your latest Saturday afternoon adventure. If you're looking for a cool classic that's fun, unique and ready to hit the road, this is it! A super nice, original Land Cruiser that you will instantly fall in love with once you're behind the wheel. I encourage you to call (515) 864-1275 with any questions and thanks for looking! I reserve the right to end this auction early, which is usually what happens.

Vice chronicles Okinawa's illegal street racing scene
Mon, 10 Mar 2014We all know that street racing is dangerous, and that motorsports are best left on the track or drag strip. However, that doesn't mean that there still isn't some outlaw allure among enthusiasts of racing on public roads. In this video, Vice Japan profiles Eikichi Nagayoshi of Japan's island of Okinawa. He is a used car dealer by day and an illegal racer by night.
Nagayoshi has a deep love for his highly customized Toyota Aristo (better known to us as a first-generation Lexus GS) that he claims produces over 1,000 horsepower and has hit 205 miles per hour. He races his car both on drag strips and in drifting competitions, but says that he often has to ship the car to mainland Japan to compete. In the absence of those opportunities, he sometimes gathers friends and takes the racing to the public roads. While we're not down with street racing, this Vice video is an intriguing personality piece, as well as a look into Japan's fabled underground racing scene. Scroll down to check out the video, but make sure you have the "CC" button clicked, because several portions are subtitled.
2020 Ford Explorer vs 3-row crossover rivals: How they compare on paper
Thu, Jan 10 2019The 2020 Ford Explorer has finally landed, and if history serves as an indicator, it should be bigger than sliced bread. And people sure love themselves some sliced bread. This new Explorer may look familiar on the outside, but beneath the skin is a radically new rear-drive platform related to the Ford Mustang (as opposed to a front-drive platform related to the Ford Taurus and a Volvo from the 1990s). Turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines now exclusively rest under its hood, which as you'll see below, both better anything its competitors offer. Ah, but if you're curious to know how the new 2020 Explorer compares to its various three-row family crossover rivals, take a look at the chart below where we stack it up against the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse, 2019 Honda Pilot, 2020 Hyundai Palisade, 2019 Subaru Ascent and 2019 Toyota Highlander. There are others of course (Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia, VW Atlas), but we only had so much room on the chart, and these were the newest and/or most likely to be cross-shopped with the new Explorer. Engine specs and towing Although the Traverse's V6 just nips it on horsepower, the 2020 Explorer's base 2.3-liter "EcoBoost" turbocharged four-cylinder engine smokes it on torque. Therefore, "best-in-class" power seems like a fair claim from Ford. That there's also a 365-horsepower turbo V6 available, plus a hybrid and even-more powerful ST model on the way shows that Ford isn't kidding around under the hood. Curb weight also seems competitive for the segment. In terms of drivetrain, the Explorer is the only member of this particular group to come standard with rear-wheel drive (2.3-liter only). The Durango is the only other three-row, non-luxury crossover to do so. This is significant for two reasons: First, you could potentially do a power slide in an Explorer. Second, and more important, those in the Snowbelt will have to opt for all-wheel drive (it comes standard with the 3.0-liter). By contrast, a set of winter tires will probably do the job just fine if you want to save some money and gas by sticking with its rivals' standard front-wheel drive. Well, except for the Subaru Ascent — that's standard with AWD. In terms of towing, the Explorer takes the cake with as much as 5,300 pounds for the four-cylinder and 5,600 pounds for the V6. Everything else tops out at 5,000, though again, the Durango is capable of besting them all thanks to its Hemi V8 engine option.
Scion's would-be savior C-HR spied before its Toyota rebadging
Wed, Feb 3 2016Scion is dead, but one of its future products, the C-HR concept, is still in development for launch as a Toyota. Toyota does a thorough job of hiding the C-HR's rakish shape on these test cars, but we can spot the concept's design cues. For example, the pointed nose and narrow headlights are present, and the giant box on the roof can't hide the downward arch for the coupe-like rear. The back doors on these examples look larger than before, which suggests a switch to a traditional five-door body rather than the hidden rear openings on the concept. The change would offer easier access to the backseat and make the C-HR a better competitor in the segment against vehicles like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, and Jeep Renegade. The C-HR debuted as a boldly styled three-door crossover at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Toyota later restyled the CUV with a more angular shape and extra doors. We most recently saw the compact crossover with Scion branding at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Rumors suggest the production model's debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and it could arrive at dealers in the latter half of 2016. The powertrain lineup likely consists of a four-cylinder engine with a CVT and possibly a hybrid version, too. You'll also get to see the C-HR on the track because Toyota will race the crossover in the 2016 Nurburgring 24 Hours. Related Video:
