I am reluctantly putting my excellent Triple Locked FZJ80 Land Cruiser up for sale. Only selling because my wife got me a new diesel pickup, so the cruiser is now redundant.
This is a great truck! While it is not a show queen, it has proven itself time and time again in challenging off road conditions. The truck is triple locked, meaning it has factory Toyota locking differentials. The lockers allow you to crawl out of virtually any condition except deep mud (ask me how I know). I've taken this truck on many road trips and she has never left me stranded.
The engine is a 4.5 liter inline six cylinder mated to an A442 automatic transmission (also known as the "bus tranny"). The engine runs fine and has had the EGR bypassed. The transmission has never had a single problem. Both the engine and the tranny are original to the truck. Mechanically I'd rate the truck as very good.
The interior is in good condition. The leather is intact with no tears, however it does show its age with some cracking. I always used seat covers on the truck so this wasn't an issue for me). The dash has some cracks from the Texas sun, but they are covered with a nice dash cover.
I drove this truck round trip to Key West last spring without issue and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
The truck is entirely rust free in both the chassis and body. It was originally a California truck and has spent its entire life in the South.
The truck comes with the following accessories:
Toyota Factory E-Lockers (work great!!)
OME 2.5" Lift with OME Nitrocharger shocks
Smittybuilt 8000# winch with synthetic line
ARB Bull Bar painted to match
Hella lights (need to be hooked back up)
Bridgestone Revo 2 tires in very good condition
2 full-size spares
Assorted spare parts (seals, gas tank sock, etc)
Cargo area Tuffy Liner
3rd Row seats
Cosmetic issues:
Cracked windshield from stone hit (about 10 inches. Still passes Texas inspection)
Golf ball dent on hood (got hit by someone's bad slice)
Passenger rear quarter has some trail rash (scrapes and a small dent)

Toyota 86 most likely to get more power through more displacement? [w/poll]
Wed, 21 Aug 2013The Sydney Morning Herald has spoken to Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the Toyota 86 (our version of it, the Scion FR-S, is pictured above), and they've been promised that more power is on the way. We've heard a lot of speculation about a more powerful Toyobaru since before the standard model was even launched. The only question now is how the power will be delivered, and among the engine concepts we've already heard about - turbo, supercharger, twin-charged, hybrid - is a new one: more displacement.
Tada said that an engine with more displacement than the current coupe's 2.0 liters is being tested alongside a turbocharged and a hybrid-assisted motor. The SMH cites "inside sources" as saying the displacement option is the one likely to get the go-ahead, and suggests increased bore and stroke will see the engine grow to 2.5 liters, horsepower to about 250 - a 50-hp increase over the present car.
While that's apparently the betting man's solution for the long-awaited increase in gumption, what happens with the next generation could be more wide open than we suspected. According to the report, Tada "hinted that [a successor] could be a radically different car, potentially dropping the boxer engine altogether." He said once they've sorted out the concept for the second generation car, then they'll sort out an engine. That's where a turbo option could come to market, perhaps the turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota is developing for the Lexus NX crossover or a hybrid system that uses a capacitor.
Toyota GT86 gets TRD treatment in UK
Fri, 08 Feb 2013As dearly as we love the Toyota GT86 / Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ franchise, we readily admit we wouldn't look sideways at a model with a bit more firepower. And while that's not quite on the table yet, Toyota has been busy amping up the visual firepower of its rear-drive coupe with a whole host of TRD parts. To this point, that's been a largely à la carte affair, but the automaker's UK outpost has just announced a special-edition model that allows our British friends to pick up the whole shooting match all in one go.
The Toyota GT86 TRD will only be available in black and white, and just 250 examples are to be built. As you can see from the excellent gallery above, the catalog of look-faster bits include a more aggressive front air dam, side skirts, rear bumper fascia, spoiler and unique 18-inch forged alloys. Additional flourishes include a TRD shift lever and branded radiator cap. The sole concession to actual performance? A "fast-response quad exhaust" that might only improve things audibly - 0-62 mph is apparently unchanged at 7.7 seconds, and the top end is still 140 mph for the manual transmission model. (The auto gets by with 8.4 seconds and 130 mph).
Pricing? Glad you asked. £31,495 for GT 86 TRD manual, £32,995 for the automatic - that's nearly $50,000 US for the tripedalist and just over for the automatic. (Those are heady prices, but bear in mind that UK MSRPs and taxes are generally significantly higher than their US counterparts). If the standard GT86 is more your speed, it still rings up at a more affordable £24,995 - roughly $39,500 - leaving plenty of budget for actual performance parts. No word yet on North American availability of a special TRD model, but we've got a call in...
Toyota investing $30 million in Indiana for more Highlander production
Sun, 28 Jul 2013Indiana seems like the place to be if you're looking for work in a car factory. In May, Subaru announced plans to invest $400 million in its Lafayette, Indiana plant, creating 900 new jobs in the process and increasing capacity to 300,000 units per year. Now, Toyota has announced plans to invest $30 million in its Princeton, Indiana plant, 170 miles south of the Subaru factory, which also builds the Camry.
Toyota's investment will create an additional 200 jobs and increase the factory's volume by 15,000 units. Toyota announced an investment in the plant in February of 2012 that bumped volume up from 300,000 to 350,000 units. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, as the Princeton facility is officially known, produces the recently revised Toyota Highlander, the Sequoia and the Sienna. It employs 4,500 people, and this announcement represents Toyota's tenth production increase in under two years.
