For sale is a 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser in excellent condition with only one owner. The car has a few small cosmetic scratches and dents, but is in great overall running condition.  It has not been driven frequently for the past few years, and it has been stored in a clean and dry garage. This car comes equipped with several optional features including leather seats, third-row rear seating, rear twelve volt accessory outlet, luggage tray, net, and rack, electric doors, windows, sunroof, and dual front and rear heaters. The tires have little to no wear on the tread and are in great shape. The Land Cruiser is powered by a fuel-injected inline 6-cylinder 4 liter engine making 155 horsepower allowing for a 3500-pound towing capacity. The rear seats fold completely flat leaving plenty of room for a large cargo load. Both the engine and transmission are in good running condition; the engine was rebuilt around 90,000 miles. Air conditioning and power steering are in great working order. The interior leather upholstery is in great condition for its age, however the driver’s seat has a few splits in need of repair. The original radio has been replaced with an Alpine unit. The rear carpeting has a few stains that are easily hidden with the third-row seating. The electronic choke mechanism knob on the dash near the steering column needs a new retracting spring because the choke knob will extend over time with normal driving vibrations. This is an easy fix requiring little work. The four-wheel drive system has to be manually engaged by locking the axle on each of the two front wheels.  Currently the right front wheel binds while engaged in four-wheel drive. This can be solved with a tune-up of the front end. Also, the electronic cruise control is in need of repair, and the fuel float in the tank does not read more than three-quarters full on the gas gauge. This car is in good drivable condition, and has been a reliable daily driver for several years. This is a great vehicle for any outdoorsman or any adventurous person. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pickup arrangements. Vehicle is sold as-is.

Toyota recalling 10k vehicles to fix wiper switches

Fri, 11 Oct 2013

Toyota has announced a voluntary recall covering approximately 10,000 cars in the United States. Affected models include the 2013-14 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2013-14 Avalon and Avalon Hybrid, and the brand new 2014 Corolla.
The problem, as Toyota explains it, is that, "During manufacture of the wiper switch assembly in the involved vehicles, certain contacts on the switch terminal could have been manufactured incorrectly." This could lead to a short in the circuit when the wiper switch is moved between "off" and "mist," and thus, cause the windshield wipers to stop working. Not good.
Toyota will contact owners via first class mail, and the vehicles can be repaired at dealerships, free of charge. Have a look below for the automaker's official statement.

Toyota mulling more Tundra, Tacoma capacity in TX

Tue, 17 Dec 2013

Toyota may be expanding its pickup truck production at its San Antonio, TX factory following calls from dealers for more Tacoma and Tundra models, according to a new report from Automotive News.
The San Antonio plant is currently able to produce 250,000 trucks on two shifts with overtime, while a secondary facility in Tijuana, Mexico can build an extra 50,000 Tacomas. Despite this capacity, and the fact that Tundra is a slow seller relative to the full-size trucks from Ford, Ram and Chevrolet/GMC (not to mention the Tacoma being part of a segment with diminishing sales), Toyota franchisees apparently can't get enough of the trucks.
"Dealers are telling us they could sell more Tacomas and Tundras," said Bill Fay, the general manager of the Toyota Division. "We are evaluating our footprint and capacity." According to AN, Toyota has moved over 248,000 trucks through November.

Toyota demos its TRD Pro Series line [w/video]

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

With a rich history of creating off-road worthy trucks and SUVs and a somewhat bland impression of its brand overall, Toyota has wisely created a line of TRD Pro Series vehicles to spice up its showrooms and newly engage customers. Debuting at this year's Chicago Auto Show before rolling into dealers this fall, the TRD-tuned vehicles include the 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra, all with added rough-road gear and amped-up looks.
The TRD Pro Series trucks might end up, in many cases, as lifestyle accessories for outdoorsy types, but that doesn't mean they're all show. TRD springs and Bilstein dampers are set up for off-road performance, while skid plates will protect the softish underbellies of these would-be rock-crawlers. The trio all get lifted over stock height, as well, with two-inch gains for the Tundra and Tacoma (lovingly referred to as "Taco Supreme" in the Toyota press release), and an inch-and-a-half rise for the 4Runner.
We detailed all of the changes to the Pro Series vehicles in our original announcement post, and you'll also find more granularity of information in the Toyota press release below. Before you dive in, however, be sure to take in our set of live, action-packed images from the Chicago Show floor.
