Vehicle Info

Exterior/Body-  The body on this 1978 FJ40 is almost all new. The following have been replaced:

  • Front Fenders
  • Both quarter panels
  • Underneath the front doors
  • Several large rust spots
The body was repainted approximately 3 years ago with a super high quality epoxy single stage paint used on Semi trucks. All rust areas were sandblasted and then treated with POR15. However, the LandCruiser DNA has started to show through in a couple of areas in the the form or surface rust bubbles (see pics). It would be advisable to prep and treat these areas soon. I will include the remainder of the original paint so it can be used and or matched for future use. The paint color is factory Toyota 416 "Dune Beige". The doors are rust free both front and back, It took me 6 months to find perfect factory original ambulance doors, these are in perfect shape. The previous owner installed diamond plate in the back bed over the factory floor. It looks good so I opted to leave it, the factory floor seems to be in decent shape when inspecting it from underneath,

Engine- This FJ40 has the original straight 6 in it with low miles (around 110k miles). The really nice thing about this engine is the fuel injection. There is a TBI injection kit from Man-a-fre. This kit is solid and has run really well for me, it runs well because I took the time to buy all the necessary parts i.e. painless wiring harness, all new sensors, brand new electronic distributor etc. To make it run like it should I had Howell EFI burn a computer chip especially for this FJ40. There is nothing like getting into this Cruiser and having it crank right up and go. Also the gas mileage is around ~18 MPG depending how heavy your foot is. Other than that all systems in the engine have been properly sorted. Finally, if the buyer would like the old parts to convert this back to a carb I have those and will include them upon request. Overall this is great running LandCruiser

Interior- As you can see from the pictures the front seats have been recovered and are in new condition. When I was replacing the seat covers I installed heated seat elements in the Driver and passenger seats. These are great for those cold mornings- definitely what every Cruiser should have. There is a factory original jump seat in the back and the original cover is in good shape. Audio System- I have replaced the front radio with a good quality JVC unit some Pioneer 6x9's in boxes in the back along with a bazooka sub in the back. It has a great sound with the top on or off.

Winch- Included with the truck is the venerable Warn 8274. It runs really well and has a remote that is in great condition. I put a custom from bumper on to mount the winch it gives the truck a great recovery option and looks great.

Power Steering- I had the GM/Saginaw conversion done, it is clean and looks like it has always been there. There is no "strong arming" yourself around the road. It is the only way to go with an FJ40 plus it tightens up the steering by removing all the sloppy factory joints.

Lift Kit-  Overall there is 5 inches of lift on this truck. It is sprung under using Hell Creek 4" leaf springs and +1 inch Ruff Stuff shackles. I have also installed Bilstein 5100 series shocks. Tire size is 35x12.5 R17 running in American Racing Mojave wheels.

Questions- Feel free to ask me any questions, I will respond as quickly as I can.

On Sep-03-14 at 18:04:46 PDT, seller added the following information:

Something that I forgot to mention- I will keep adding them to the auction as I think of them.

Extended Range Fuel Tank-
There is a Confer 21 gallon fuel tank installed in this truck. It is plumbed in and works, there is an additional fuel goose neck inside the passenger rear wheel well. These are hard to find and great when you are going off road.

Subaru Viziv 2 presages Tribeca replacement with diesel hybrid tech

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

Subaru is in the middle of a new product bonanza. It has recent replacements for the Impreza and Forester at dealers, and soon we're getting the WRX, Legacy and if rumors are right the new Outback as well. Now, there are rumblings that there could be two more models from the Japanese brand on the way with styling inspired by the Viziv 2 concept from the Geneva Motor Show.
According to a company insider speaking with Motor Trend, the crossover concept shows the way for the brand's future design language. The shape would be used on a smaller CUV that is still being kept quite secret, and a second, larger one that would replace the recently axed Tribeca. The bigger model is the first priority and is planned as a new technology showcase.
It's rumored to use a turbodiesel, four-cylinder boxer engine that would be boosted with one electric motor on the front axle and two at the rear, with a plug-in hybrid system sourced from Toyota. It should provide a great mix of torque and fuel economy. A smaller flat-six engine would be a second powertrain option. Though the Viziv 2 concept only seats four, the production version would probably offer three rows.

Ford only automaker to make 2012 Buzz Rankings, Toyota most improved

Wed, 30 Jan 2013

Ford landed itself a spot among the top 10 brands in the 2012 Buzz Rankings. The annual index scores 1,100 brands in 41 categories to determine which nameplates had the most positive buzz throughout the year.
For the third year in a row, Subway took the top honors overall with a score of 40.3, and Ford was the only automaker to break into the top 25 by earning a sixth-place finish overall. The manufacturer earned a score of 32.1 points, which was enough to push it up one spot from the 2011 Buzz Rankings. Honda managed 21.2 points overall, which is still well behind 25th-place Kohl's at 26.5 points. Toyota, Volkswagen and BMW all round out the top five automakers.
The 2012 Buzz Rankings also keep track of which brands improved the most over the past year, and this year, Toyota was the manufacturer with the largest leap forward. The Japanese automaker jumped from just 14 points in 2011 to 20.5 in 2012. Chrysler, Kia, Dodge and Volkswagen all saw sizable steps forward as well. Be sure to head over to the Brand Index site for more information.
