Intro:
For sale is our beloved project "Big Red". A 1978 Toyota FJ43 Land Cruiser, in the rare medium wheelbase. This
acclaimed 4x4 icon underwent a thorough frame off restoration in Colombia. A matching numbers example which was
completely rust free before the restoration, with its original floors, engine, transmission, and chassis. The car
is legally imported and carries a clean and clear Florida title. It will be presented with all import documents
including customs, EPA, DOT, and original bill of sale from factory. This surviving beauty is ready to go back into
its natural habitat. Whether that be climbing rugged mountains, cruising the beach, or driving to the office, you
choose the course and this Land Cruiser will lead!
Restoration:
This FJ43 has its original 4.2L Type 2F inline 6 cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission. We performed extensive
inspections of all mechanical components and they were serviced as needed. The original carburetor was rebuilt and
tuned. All brakes were serviced and pads replaced, fresh fluids changed all around, new battery and alternator were
also installed. Everything works as it should, lights, horn, instrument gauges, etc. New electrical wiring and
harness throughout. To maintain its originality, a list of OEM parts were replaced where possible, some of which
include emblems, lighting, weatherstripping, and more.
The entire frame was stripped down to the bare metal. The paint process was done using high quality PPG paint in
its original Freeborn Red (code 309). The chassis was also stripped and then coated for anti-corrosive purposes.
Although the upholstery was replaced recently by previous owner, we restored and painted all the seat hardware. We
installed a vinyl soft top made to the original measurements with a custom steel frame and ambulance doors. A set
of 5 new OEM steel 15" wheels powder coated and wrapped with new BF Goodrich T/A 31x10.5, all including new OEM
caps.

Toyota unveils two new small displacement engines
Thu, 10 Apr 2014Toyota introduced a pair of brand-new engines in Japan today, that it says will eventually spawn 14 different variants by 2015. Where these two engines stand out in today's world, is that neither mill boasts direct injection, and both are naturally aspirated.
The larger of the two is a 1.3-liter, while the smaller engine, a 1.0-liter, was developed in collaboration with Daihatsu. What makes these two unique is that they both use the Atkinson cycle. Now, we aren't going to bore you by explaining just what this is - there's Google for that. Suffice it to say, Atkinson engines are highly efficient, but that efficiency comes by sacrificing power. That's why they're so popular in hybrids, which can offset the power losses.
This focus on fuel efficiency extends throughout the new engines, which also benefit from tweaks like a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system and a trick intake port, while the 1.3 employs Toyota's iE variant of variable valve timing. Both engines can be fitted with stop-start tech. According to Toyota, when fitted with stop-start the 1.3 should provide around a 15-percent bump while the 1.0-liter will increase economy around 30 percent, when they arrive on the road.

Toyota JV will sell Leahead EVs in China next year
Thu, Oct 23 2014You may have read that Toyota is about to establish a new electric vehicle sub-brand in China called Leahead that will focus on "cheap electric cars aimed at young and hip car buyers in China." This isn't 100 percent true, but the Japanese automaker is revving its electric motors for EVs in China, in a fashion. It makes sense for automakers to push for more EVs in China, given government support for the technology and the proven success of Tesla there. Low-speed EVs are popular, as well. Indirectly, Toyota is going to sell electric vehicles to Chinese customers next year. We've heard reports before that Toyota is interested in going electric in China, with a different Toyota JV and thus a different brand but now we have an official word on Toyota's future EV moves in China, direct from Jana Hartline, the environmental communications manager for Toyota Motor Sales, USA. Hartline told AutoblogGreen that Toyota just celebrated the 10-year anniversary of GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd (GTMC), its joint-venture manufacturing company in China. And it is GTMC, not Toyota directly, that is the company behind Leahead (called Ling Zhi in Chinese). Leahead will begin selling EVs under the Ling Zhi brand starting in 2015. So, yes, indirectly, Toyota is going to sell electric vehicles to Chinese customers next year. There are rumors that the new EVs will be electric versions of the Corolla EX and/or the Yaris L, but we've got nothing confirmed on that front. We will be waiting for more new at the Shanghai Motor Show next April.
