1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40.

I've been restoring this vehicle since April of 2013 and it has turned out far better than I expected.  I've gone to great lengths to keep it as stock as possible.  I've replaced or restored almost every part of this vehicle.  It runs excellent and drives strong.

Key items that people usually ask about:
  • Original Toyota 2F Straight 6-Cyl engine.
  • Original Toyota transmission and t-case.
  • Does not have Power Steering or AC.
  • Dune Beige paint code 416.
  • New seat upholstery.
  • New BF Goodrich MT 33x10.50 x 15 tires.  No more than 20 miles are on these tires.
  • All hardware is brand new and done in stainless steel.
  • Spectre air intake assembly.
  • 124,812 original miles.  Odometer currently reads 24,812.
Restoration Process:
This vehicle started with very little rust.  I broke down the entire vehicle, sent every piece to the sand blaster (there's a pic or two of sandblasted parts), personally sanded every part, etched, primed and then sent all parts to a local body/paint shop for professional final body and paint work.  The vehicle is rust free, straight and flat.  The paint is beautiful, shiny, brilliant and vibrant in color.  (There are a couple pics that show the progress of the restoration).

The interior has a professional Hippo liner in the base tub from the real seal to the front fire wall.  The Hippo liner is rubberized and color injected (not painted on top of the liner).  The liner deadens sound and can take a beating.  The color exactly matches the rest of the vehicle.  The seats are professional upholstered and done in black.

As you can see from the pics there are too many parts to list that I purchased new for this restoration. From top to bottom this baby is new and fully functional.  All gauges and components of the electrical system are operational.  Drive train is strong.  Windows are operational.  Doors seal tightly and all have new weatherstripping.  I even completely disassembled the rear license plate holder and made sure it was working.

I can't think of anything else this land cruiser needs.  You are getting a stunning vehicle at half of the cost a professional restoration house would charge you.

Conditions for Purchase:
I require $1000 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of the end of this auction.  I take wire transfer or bank check.  Once I verify the deposit, I will overnight the title to you.  Once you receive title, you have 5 working days to get me the remaining balance.  Im willing to help arrange shipping of the FJ40 or hold it for two weeks while shipping and/or pick up arrangements are made.

I've used this method of collecting payment/delivery of the title & vehicle many times.  I works great.  Please do NOT ask me to use PayPal - they only protect the buyer and give no insurance to the seller.  Not to mention they take 3% of the sale.

Questions & Seller Note:
I've restored a few FJ40's in my day and take great pride in the restoration.  With that said, I don't do this for a living - it's just a hobby.  The vehicle is not perfect - if it were you would be buying it from Cool Cruisers or ICON and be paying over $50k for the vehicle.  I've never had a complaint from anyone who bought an FJ40 from me.  I make sure they are completely happy and I've maintained a lot of friendships across the country from my transactions.  Please call me to talk about the FJ40 and/or to make me an offer.  I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.  The vehicle is for sale as-is.

Contact Info:
I respond very quickly to a phone call or text to Dan 801-556-9399.  You're welcome to email through eBay but it might take me a few hours to respond.  Additionally, I will tell you that my last FJ40 sale people hesitated to click the "Buy It Now" button.  The vehicle sold to someone who called me and finalized the deal over the phone and I ended the auction early.  Afterwords, I had over 10 people call me and ask me if it sold and had regrets they did not click the "Buy it Now" button.  My price is fair given the quality and detail of this restoration and how it compares to others on the market.  Thank you and good luck!

2020 Toyota Yaris hatchback could return as a Mazda2 clone

Wed, Jan 30 2019

Less than a week ago we got the news that Toyota killed the 2019 Yaris Liftback in the U.S., instead choosing to sell the remaining inventory from 2018. There should be plenty of stock left, too: Car and Driver reports that Toyota sold 1,940 of the tiny hatches last year. The automaker said it would have an announcement about the Yaris at this year's New York Auto Show in April, telling Automobile, " We're working on something new for MY2020." C/D thinks it already knows what's coming, writing, "We assume ... that the new Yaris hatchback ... will be a rebadged Mazda2, like the current Yaris sedan that Mazda builds for Toyota in Mexico." Toyota and Mazda formed a development- and technology-sharing partnership in 2015. As part of the collaboration, we got the Scion iA in 2016, based on the Mazda2 sedan. That four-door became the Toyota Yaris iA when the Scion brand got put in the ground, and then became just the Yaris for 2019. In spite of Americans' well-publicized aversion to sedans, the trunked Yaris sold 25,269 units last year. Meanwhile, the Yaris hatch, built at a Toyota factory in France, has carried on basically untouched since 2013 — with a four-speed automatic, even — helping to explain its slow take-rate. If the Yaris five-door moves to the Mazda2 platform, we expect it to follow the same formula as the sedan. That means a 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder with 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. That's the same output as the Toyota NR engine in the current hatch, but from a better, more modern engine. Transmission options would include a six-speed manual as standard on the L and LE trims. For 2019, Toyota added an XLE trim to the sedan that comes with a six-speed automatic. Assuming all comes to pass, the new Yaris five-door would be built at Mazda's Mexico plant alongside the sedan. But we'll have to wait until New York to know for sure. Related Video:

Toyota fires bullets into hydrogen fuel tanks, shoots down EV supporters

Thu, Jan 16 2014

Many gearheads will remember that the 1970s-era Dodge Dart's claim to fame was that its motor was so durable (though not necessarily powerful) that one could shoot bullets into the engine block. Decades later, Toyota has taken a page out of that testing process. "Personally, I don't care what Elon [Musk] says about fuel cells." With some industry members and analysts questioning both the viability and durability of hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles, Toyota executive Bob Carter, speaking at the Automotive News World Congress this week, says the Japanese automaker went all Clint Eastwood on the fuel tanks of a fuel-cell prototype. Carter says that bullets from a small-caliber gun bounced off the carbon-fiber tanks, and that .50-caliber bullets barely made dents. The shoot-out motif kept going when Carter name-checked executives from Tesla, Nissan and Volkswagen in saying that he didn't care if other automakers question the future of fuel-cell vehicles. As you can see in the prepared text of Carter's speech below, he said, "Personally, I don't care what Elon [Musk], Carlos [Ghosn] or Jonathan [Browning] say about fuel cells. If they want to 'plug in and tune out' other technologies, that's fine." After debuting it in Tokyo late last year, Toyota showed off its FCV fuel-cell concept vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show this week as it get ready to start sales "around 2015." The car has a 300-mile range and should be priced somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000. Autoblog drove Toyota's fuel-cell prototypes last year, and you can read our impressions here. 2014 Automotive News World Congress- Bob Carter January 14, 2014 As prepared for: Automotive News World Congress Tuesday, January 14, 2014 Bob Carter, Senior Vice President, Automotive Operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. _________________ Thanks, Keith and good afternoon everyone. You know, I've been in the car business for more than 30 years, but I'm more excited about it now than EVER before Why? Because for the first time in Toyota's history, we did something here we've NEVER done before. We shocked people by unveiling two great looking, fun-to-drive cars that blow a hole in the theory that Toyota only builds "appliances". Just yesterday, we unveiled Toyota's newest concept, the FT-1 sports car. I'm already getting people asking me when they can get their hands on one. The FT-1 represents the latest in our heritage of sports cars like the 2000GT, Celica, Supra and most recently, the FR-S.

2020 Ford Escape hybrids vs other crossover fuel sippers: How they compare on paper

Wed, Apr 3 2019

Along with a new generation of Escape, Ford also reintroduced the world to the 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. And if that weren't enough, Ford is adding a plug-in hybrid version. This is a sign of the times: people are more crossover crazy than ever, but are also seeking ways to use less fuel, whether it's for environmental or purely money-motivated reasons. The Ford hybrids aren't the only fuel-efficient compact crossovers on the market. They will be going head-to-head with conventional hybrids including the 2019 Kia Niro, 2019 Nissan Rogue Hybrid and 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. There are other plug-in hybrids including the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek PHEV, 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the plug-in version of the 2019 Kia Niro. There are even a couple diesels in the form of the 2019 Chevy Equinox and 2019 GMC Terrain. So we've rounded up the details on all these crossovers to see who leads and lags in criteria such as power, fuel efficiency, space and price. Check out all their details below. 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid View 68 Photos How do their engines and fuel economy compare? Conventional Hybrids and Diesels Let's face it, if you're buying one of these crossovers, one of the things that matters most to you is just how frugal with fuel they are. We'll start off with the conventional hybrids and diesels, and the clear victor is the Kia Niro, which in base FE trim, manages to hit 50 mpg combined. This is thanks to it sharing its powertrain with the Hyundai Ioniq, the Hyundai equivalent of the Toyota Prius. Buyers should take note that only the FE returns such high fuel economy. The LX and EX drop to 49 mpg, and the S Touring and Touring get 43. Even then, the least efficient Niro is the most efficient of the normal hybrids and diesels. It is nearly the least powerful, though, with 139 horsepower. Just behind it is the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It delivers 40 mpg combined, and it has an ace up its sleeve: it comes standard with all-wheel drive. Every other vehicle in this powertrain group has front drive standard, and the Niro isn't available with all-wheel drive at all. If that weren't enough, the RAV4 Hybrid also boasts the most power at 219 horses. While we can't say anything about Escape Hybrid fuel economy, we do know that it will make 198 horsepower, which is close to the class-leading RAV4. The least powerful of these is the Equinox and Terrain, and they return the worst fuel economy at 32 mpg.
