Transmission: Manual-4 speed Condition: Excellent Exterior: Black Jade Metallic Interior: Cream This iconic Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser was purchased in Moscow Idaho in July 1976 for $6,425, and remained in the same ownership for the next 28 years. The second owner undertook a total frame off restoration, including a complete sanding and repainting of the frame, body, roof, original factory wheels (to match the roof and interior color), new leather interior, “BDS Lift Kit,” all-terrain “Big O A / T Big Foot” tires and “Pacer” polished alloy wheels (the original wheels and tires come with the Cruiser too), wiring harness, servicing of the original factory winch (driven directly from the transfer case, known as a powered take off “P.T.O.” as it is powered from by the engine). The “safari roof rack” was also added as hardtop enhancement furthering the roughed off-road look of the Cruiser. A deep black metallic jade was chosen for the exterior and interior metal and light cream for the removable hardtop, factory wheels and leather seats, resulting in refined overall look and feel to the Cruiser. With the odometer showing approximately 49,000 miles and the engine running strong and without issues, its condition only required a cleaning with a change of plugs, filters and oil. It retains the original 4.2 Liter Inline 6 Cylinder 258 cubic inch displacement gasoline engine, with a 2-barrel carburetor and 4-speed manual transmission. The engine starts immediately and runs well, and has excellent power and torque. The 4-speed transmission and terrain selector (which adjusts the drivetrain from two to four wheel drive) shift with authority. Having been more interested in the restoration project then using of the vehicle, it remained a part of the second owner’s car collection in Bozeman Montana, seeing limited use, for two years. The third owner purchased the Cruiser while on vacation at Big Sky, Montana and immediately drove it 1,500 miles across the country to his home in northern Michigan. It made the trip flawlessly and continues to remain as mechanically sound as the day it first rolled of the lot in Moscow, Idaho back in July 1976. At some point after June of 2004 and before June of 2006 the odometer was ceased working and was replaced by the third owner. The odometer currently shows approximately 38,000 miles. So we know the odometer is no longer accurate, our belief is the actual mileage is approximately 55,000 miles, but we cannot confirm this. What really sets this vehicle apart is the exceptional attention to detail. Almost all of the original hardware, such as the bolts, nuts, hose clamps, hard lines, and brackets have been maintained (it is only missing the original am/fm radio). The electrical and mechanical items are in perfect working order, 100% rust-free with beautiful seams, gaps and joints. No leaks, no rust and no issues. As the fourth owner we have enjoyed driving the Cruiser this past summer and found it to be trouble free, extraordinarily reliable and the topic of attention wherever we have taken it. Kids in college require its sale so we are looking for a good home to continue the care and enjoyment of the Cruiser. The original paperwork includes: Toyota owner’s manual, factory window sticker, dealer’s price label, EPA fuel estimate, dealer statement of odometer mileage, dealer bill of sale, first owner’s financing/security agreement. Miscellaneous records and invoices from service and restoration also included. Original Toyota issued “patinated” tool kit and wheel-changing tools are also included. In addition, the hard top can be removed and would be perfect for those “bikini top” days in the warmer months. This is a beautiful, investment-grade time capsule in excellent condition. The photos speak for themselves! Original FJ's of this caliber are pretty much non-existent, they're only original once, here's your opportunity... Fly in and drive home (buyer is responsible for Cruiser delivery). |

New Toyota Mirai videos continue questionable hydrogen claims
Thu, Dec 18 2014"Toyota engineers were simultaneously working on a brand new technology that met all the driver's needs with an even smaller carbon footprint." Toyota has released a number of new promotional videos for the hydrogen-powered 2016 Mirai. Most are exactly what you'd expect: pretty, full of promise and vaguely informational. But there was one line in the Product Introduction video that caught out ear. In the Product Information video about the Mirai, the narrator goes into a short history of Toyota's green car advances. After talking about the Prius and the Prius Plug In, making EVs for urban commuting and the rest of Toyota's advanced fuel programs, we hear this: "Never satisfied though, Toyota engineers were simultaneously working on a brand new technology that met all the driver's needs with an even smaller carbon footprint, one that took its lead from nature itself." You can watch the video (and four others) below. Plug In America co-founder Paul Scott told AutoblogGreen, "Show us the math! Toyota claims the FCV has a smaller carbon footprint than their EV, but every paper I've read indicates the FCV uses 3-4 times as much energy to travel a given distance as an EV. If they are making this claim, let's call them out to prove it. Show us the math!" There's some math that comes out in favor of EVs here and here. "BEVs and FCs have a very similar carbon footprint, dependent on fuel source." – Toyota's Jana Hartline Plug-in vehicle advocate Chelsea Sexton went further. "Assuming appropriate comparisons in energy feedstock, basic science doesn't support the notion that the footprint of an FCV is smaller than that of an EV," she told AutoblogGreen, explaining that "appropriate comparison" would mean using similar energy generation methods for both hydrogen and plug-in vehicles. Not the tendency, she noted, "of H2 fans to compare FCVs based on solar-based electrolysis to EVs running on coal-bases electricity and similar shenanigans." Besides, Sexton said, "focusing purely on efficiencies entirely misses the biggest struggles that FCVs face in the market, namely fuel price, inconvenience, and market fear, even if the vehicles themselves are initially subsidized.
JLR shares backstage 'No Time to Die' Range Rover Sport SVR carnage
Sat, Sep 18 2021James Bond's latest adventures will take him to Norway and Scotland, as seen in the trailer for the upcoming "No Time to Die." Somewhere along the way, the British spy encounters a pair of Range Rover Sport SVRs, the ultimate high-performance SUV from JLR's Special Vehicle Operations division in one of the movie's centerpiece car chases. Now, the company has given us a behind-the-scenes look at its filming, and the automotive carnage that ensues. The filmmakers wanted to take a Bond action sequence off-road, and chose the Range Rover Sport SVR as the the bad guys' pursuit vehicle. Armed with a JLR product placement deal (Bond drives a new Defender in another part of the movie) the henchmen had no qualms picking one of the most expensive things on the menu. Unfortunately, that also makes is a bit hard to watch when machines that start at $115,000 are totaled as they careen through the air or roll onto their roofs. The SVRs share a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with the Jaguar F-Type SVR and are the most powerful vehicles in the Land Rover portfolio. With 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque on tap, translating to a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds, they're the perfect weapon for chasing a super-spy down a dirt road. As for Bond himself, 007 makes his escape in a decades-old yellow Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Specifically, it's a 90-series, a smaller version built from 1996 to 2002 that was never sold in the U.S. but remains popular in other parts of the world. The most powerful engine had just 190 horsepower from a 3.4 liter V6 shared with the similar-era 4Runner. Despite the power discrepancy, Bond manages to dispatch the Range Rovers in spectacular fashion. Wait, this is a Range Rover promo, right? "All the stunts are for real, there's nothing that's CGI'ed," said Neil Layton, the film's action vehicle coordinator. "So to make the cars more dramatic on the screen, we had to turn off a lot of safety feature aids that's on there." Interestingly, another non-JLR product shows up in the video as well. The camera car is a blacked out (to minimize reflection in other cars) Ford F-150 Raptor outfitted with a massive rooftop boom. "No Time to Die" is hits the screens on October 8. Recharge Wrap-up: 10-year sentence for biodiesel fraudsters, overhead fast charging EV buses in Luxembourg
Thu, Nov 10 2016Toyota will use addressable TV advertising to target potential Prius Prime customers. By choosing to advertise in households with specific attributes, Toyota hopes to grab the attention of buyers who "see their vehicle as an extension of their consumption of advanced technology," according to Toyota Motors Sales media manager Lisa McQueen. The ad depicts a person who is skeptical of various inventions throughout history until he finds himself inside the Prius Prime. Hyundai has also used addressable TV ads for its Genesis brand. Read more at Automotive News. Two Florida men have each been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for biodiesel credit fraud. Thomas Davanzo and Robert Fedyna of Gen-X Energy Group and its subsidiary Southern Resources and Commodities were convicted of buying fuel that had already been sold with Renewable Identification Numbers, then fraudulently claiming more credits on that fuel. The scheme raked in more than $46 million, mostly in selling the fraudulent credits. Critics of the Renewable Fuel Standard point to incidents like this as a reason to oppose the program. Public transport operator Sales-Lentz has ordered three of the Heliox systems that will charge the buses using pantograph (overhead wire) contacts. The chargers will be placed at end-of-route stops for opportunistic charging of the transport agency's four Volvo 7900 electric buses. The 450-kW, Wi-Fi-enabled OppCharge system automatically connects the charger to contact plates on the roofs of the vehicles, charging them in three to six minutes. Read more at Green Car Congress.
