This beautiful Heath Grey 1974 FJ43 is sold to a client in Florida. Volcan 4x4, LLC is sourcing, restoring and exporting these rare and desirable trucks out of Colombia. We are taking orders for FJ43s in the $30,000 to $60,000 range.
We have sold a 1981 FJ43 and a 1974 FJ43 to date. We are working on our 9th truck since starting the business in early 2014. We have a 1982 FJ43 and a 1978 FJ43 in process. These are high end trucks that will likely go to the auctions. We are located in Tampa, Florida and also Medellin, Colombia where we contract with various Land Cruiser specialists to purchase and restore FJ43s. The best FJ43 models come from Colombia as they are Left Hand Drive and rust free. The FJ43 is a rare FJ model. It has a 5 inch longer wheelbase than the FJ40 and a few more inches along the rear tub. This gives the truck a superior ride than the FJ40 and a great stance. The FJ43s are typically 7 to 9 passengers also. All the mechanical parts are interchangeable with the FJ40. The FJ43s are rare in the US with auction prices for the top trucks approaching $80,000. Volcan 4x4, LLC can source you a pre-1979 FJ43 starting at $30,000. Volcan 4x4 is on its 9th truck since launching the business in early 2014 with our over $50,000 frame off 1983 FJ40 that was featured at Mecum Auctions in Orlando 2014. Owner Charlie Guy is a bilingual US citizen and purchases each truck in Colombia. I personally review each truck along with my mechanic and paint/body specialist. I typically look at 10 trucks for every truck that I purchase. I personally oversee all the restoration work with my subcontractors to ensure each truck reaches "Volcan 4x4" level of quality. Each truck typically undergoes a 30 day overhaul including thorough mechanical review, new tires, shocks, exhaust, new paint and interior. We take advantage of the high quality knowledgeable specialists in Colombia before we export the trucks. The trucks are unique in that the some may require more paint work for instance or others mechanical work. The end result for every truck however is a rare, rust free, high quality Volcan 4x4 classic truck that has been reviewed and overhauled recently by professional mechanics and paint/body work specialists. We are focusing now specifically on bringing in high quality frame on restored FJ43s. Why buy an FJ40 when you can buy a restored FJ43 that is more rare and more valuable in the US? This 1974 Heath Grey FJ43 is an example of the work we just completed. A client contacted us in early June with interest in a FJ43 in subdued color. She preferred the earlier models with the painted inside metal doors. We had a Colombian seller client in mind and very quickly went and purchased the truck once she sent Volcan 4x4, LLC a deposit to our Florida bank. We shipped the truck from Bogota to our shop in Medellin, Colombia and performed a 30 day overhaul including mechanical overview, extensive paint work, and new AC installation. Many upgrades included details such as preserving and repairing the 40 year old original seat vinyl and installing a dome light and new door gaskets. As of August 1st the truck is now in the Port of Miami awaiting shipment to Tampa, Florida. The client takes delivery of her one of a kind truck August 20th. You can find Volcan 4x4 on youtube, Facebook and our website. I have leads on several 1978 FJ43s with the 2F and 4 speed starting at $30,000. If you have been following the market for classic Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40s you know that they are increasing in value and gaining a lot of interest. What you may not know is that Colombia is becoming the source for classic FJ40s and even more so the ONLY source for rare FJ43s. Volcan 4x4, LLC is now working on its 4th FJ43 this year and we are quickly becoming THE source for these great trucks. Please contact us with interest in a Volcan 4x4. You could be driving a rare, restored FJ43 within a few months time. Thank you, Charlie Guy |

Minivan Comparison | Sienna vs Odyssey vs Pacifica vs Sedona
Fri, Nov 20 2020The minivan segment is fresher than it's been in years, possibly decades. The 2021 Toyota Sienna is a completely redesigned model with a bold new look and standard hybrid powertrain. Both the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica were refreshed for 2021 with updated styling, upgraded tech, and in the case of the Pacifica, newly optional all-wheel drive. Only the 2021 Kia Sedona soldiers on without changes; it's still a solid van despite its advanced age and relatively few people buying it. Usually when we put a comparison like this together, we have to pick and choose which vehicles to include (mostly because we can't do some 15-car spreadsheet without utilizing 4-point font). In the case of minivans, there are only four. That certainly makes it easier to research and cross-shop in person without worrying that you might be missing out on something. It also makes it a bit easier to go beyond the usual spreadsheet and dig a little deeper than normal into the competitors. Let's take a brief look at each. 2021 Toyota Sienna The Sienna is completely new for '21 after going a decade with only updates. Its exterior style is more expressive than before, but it's the new cabin that really impresses — it's far more car-like in appearance, but still offers the expected amount of abundant storage and functionality. Mechanically, the big news is that every Sienna is now a hybrid. Though down a bit on power compared to everything else, its 36 mpg combined (or 35 mpg with all-wheel drive) crushes everything but the Pacifica plug-in hybrid. This exceptional fuel economy and its far-sliding, big-kid-friendly second-row seats are its main selling points, but in every other respect, it's fully competitive. Read our full 2021 Sienna Review 2021 Toyota Sienna View 41 Photos 2021 Chrysler Pacifica The Pacifica gets its first comprehensive set of upgrades since it was all-new for '17. The front end has been restyled, all-wheel drive is now an option and there's a new Pinnacle range-topping trim. The big news, however, is its technology offerings. Every Pacifica now comes standard, as the Odyssey and Sienna do, with a comprehensive array of driver assistance technologies. Every trim also gets Chrysler's latest UConnect infotainment system with a larger, 10.1-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
EPA says automakers ahead of schedule for 54.5 MPG by 2025
Sat, Apr 26 2014Remember, the target is 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. Today, the CAFE level is a little over 30. How we get from here to there is something the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is monitoring closely. Thus, the EPA just released an annual flash report on how the auto industry is progressing towards meeting the nation's fuel economy goals. Overall, the industry is doing almost 10 grams per mile (equivalent) better than the rules require. The good news is that the industry is a bit ahead of schedule. In the report (see page iii), the EPA breaks things down by automaker based only on MY12 numbers. Tesla is at the top of the list (which is ranked by over-compliance with 2012MY CO2 standards), but for our money, the real leader is Toyota. The Japanese automaker built the second-highest number of vehicles (2,020,248, after General Motors' 2,364,374) but racked up the most net 2012 over-compliance credits (13,163,009 metric tons). That's an average of over 6.5 metric tons per vehicle. The next closest is Honda, with just over five metric tons of credits per vehicle. Given the MPG fiasco with Hyundai and Kia, the EPA says, "we are excluding Hyundai and Kia data because of the ongoing investigation into their testing methods," but overall, the rest of the industry has credits worth 25,053,168 metric tons of CO2, which means it's doing almost 10 grams per mile (equivalent) better than the rules require. Go team. For now, the numbers in this report (and there are a lot more of them – get the 59-page PDF for yourself here), can't really be used to understand everything from the first year of the new CAFE program. The EPA writes, "Because the program allows credits and deficits to be carried into future years, at the close of the 2012 model year no manufacturer is considered to be out of compliance with the program. ... Compliance with the 2012 model year standards can't be fully assessed until the end of the 2015 model year." There are a more interesting tidbits in the report, such as the fact that Fisker produced 1,415 model year 2012 vehicles, Tesla made 2,952. Remember, too, that CAFE numbers don't equal the fuel economy you see in your daily drives. In the real world, the 54.5 CAFE level will be about 40 mpg, and the average fuel economy today is around 25 mpg, so we have a ways to go, no matter how you measure it. JLR shares backstage 'No Time to Die' Range Rover Sport SVR carnage
Sat, Sep 18 2021James Bond's latest adventures will take him to Norway and Scotland, as seen in the trailer for the upcoming "No Time to Die." Somewhere along the way, the British spy encounters a pair of Range Rover Sport SVRs, the ultimate high-performance SUV from JLR's Special Vehicle Operations division in one of the movie's centerpiece car chases. Now, the company has given us a behind-the-scenes look at its filming, and the automotive carnage that ensues. The filmmakers wanted to take a Bond action sequence off-road, and chose the Range Rover Sport SVR as the the bad guys' pursuit vehicle. Armed with a JLR product placement deal (Bond drives a new Defender in another part of the movie) the henchmen had no qualms picking one of the most expensive things on the menu. Unfortunately, that also makes is a bit hard to watch when machines that start at $115,000 are totaled as they careen through the air or roll onto their roofs. The SVRs share a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with the Jaguar F-Type SVR and are the most powerful vehicles in the Land Rover portfolio. With 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque on tap, translating to a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds, they're the perfect weapon for chasing a super-spy down a dirt road. As for Bond himself, 007 makes his escape in a decades-old yellow Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Specifically, it's a 90-series, a smaller version built from 1996 to 2002 that was never sold in the U.S. but remains popular in other parts of the world. The most powerful engine had just 190 horsepower from a 3.4 liter V6 shared with the similar-era 4Runner. Despite the power discrepancy, Bond manages to dispatch the Range Rovers in spectacular fashion. Wait, this is a Range Rover promo, right? "All the stunts are for real, there's nothing that's CGI'ed," said Neil Layton, the film's action vehicle coordinator. "So to make the cars more dramatic on the screen, we had to turn off a lot of safety feature aids that's on there." Interestingly, another non-JLR product shows up in the video as well. The camera car is a blacked out (to minimize reflection in other cars) Ford F-150 Raptor outfitted with a massive rooftop boom. "No Time to Die" is hits the screens on October 8.
