1969 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj40 on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
|
I bought this vehicle about 3 years ago from the ORIGINAL OWNER. He rebuilt the engine and transmission with a new clutch 2 years prior to my purchase. A mechanic checked the compression when we bought it showing good numbers. The car needed new drum brakes and a major tune up (spark plug, wires, etc.), I payed around $1800 for both with records to show proof. The vehicle is in great running condition and the body shows no signs of rust, having been kept garaged for most of its life. It comes with the original 3.8 liter inline-six engine it left the factory with in 1969. Engine starts and runs excellent. Engine is coupled with a 3-speed transmission on the steering column which shifts smoothly. Interior comes with original front and rear (jump seats). This vehicle is as stock as it can be however it comes with a few additions like a 2.5" lift with 33/12.5/15 tires.
Feel free to message me for any additional info. |

Toyota mini doc chronicles Tundra towing Space Shuttle Endeavor
Thu, 21 Mar 2013Toyota has worked up a quick video detailing the brand's involvement in the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour last year. As you may recollect, the California Science Center ran into a hitch when it came to moving Endeavour from LAX to its new home. While most of the route would be covered by a robotically controlled transporter, one portion of the route directed the shuttle over an interstate. Unfortunately, the bridge across wasn't designed to stand up to the weight of the shuttle and its motorized sled.
The Science Center would have to remove Endeavour from its transporter and place it on a lighter, non-motorized sled. That's where longtime Science Center sponsor Toyota came in. As it turns out, the automaker had to prove to the California Science Center that a Tundra could actually tow the massive shuttle, so engineers put on a little demonstration with a stock truck pulling the equivalent weight over flat ground for the same distance. Once the Science Center was satisfied that the Tundra could pull it off, the move was green lit and the rest is history. Check out the short documentary below for yourself.
Toyota prepped to spend $1.3B on plants in Mexico and China
Tue, Apr 7 2015Toyota is getting set to expand its manufacturing operations in a big way, with a pair of sources reporting to Reuters that the company was preparing to make a roughly $1.3-billion investment to add two new factories in China and Mexico. If Reuters sources turn out to be correct and the company's upper management decides to greenlight the two new factories, Toyota's annual output would grow by 300,000 units per year. Two-thirds of the capacity would come from the new Mexican factory, where the company may produce the next-generation Corolla, due in 2019. That facility would be in the state of Guanajuato, in the central part of the country, the sources told Reuters. The Chinese factory, meanwhile, would likely be built in Guangzhou, and may become a source of Yaris production sometime in 2018.
Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too
Fri, 07 Dec 2012We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.
