Description:

You are looking at a modified 1967 FJ40 that has been setup as the ultimate beach cruiser.  It is yellow and has been lifted with 35s and has a snorkel installed.  This FJ40 comes with front bucket seats and the larger rear two (2) person jump seats for a total passenger capacity of seven (6) people.

This FJ40 comes with new tires and modern rims.  Installed on each bumper are the oem bumper rubber knobs and rear Toyota mud flaps.  It comes with full size rear mounted spare tire with matching modern rim.

This FJ40 has some surface rust which is shown on some of the pictures but no cancer.  This has been reflected in the offering price. The underbody is in excellent shape and the suspension it stable and true at any cruising speed.

This FJ40 is originally from Costa Rica and was restored in Costa Rica where FJ/HJ45s and FJ/BJ40s are common and plentiful, although not in this excellent condition.  It currently sits at our shop in Costa Rica and will be headed to Miami, via shipping container, shortly after the end of the auction to be completely processed and imported pursuant to EPA and DOT regulations (exempt due to 25+ years old).  The FJ40 will be registered in Florida and the winning bidder will receive a clean Florida title when the transaction is completed.

I travel on an average of once a month to Costa Rica to scout for restoration candidates and have them either restored to original condition (20 footers), or have the 40s/45s restored (frame-off) to better than original condition and in showroom quality when the right candidate is found (perfect at any distance).

This FJ40 is a "20 footer" and is not perfect but is in great shape and a real head turner and for the price, it is an excellent value for someone wanting an entry level price with high quality upgrades!

Bid with confidence!  We have 100% feedback and you will not be disappointed.  This FJ40 represents and excellent investment and value at the offering price given its condition and installed upgrades!

Since eBay will only let me place a maximum of 24 pictures on the listing, I have included a link below to our Flickr account where you can see even more high-resolution pictures of this FJ40.  I have other FJ/BJ/HJ 40/45 trucks for sale that you can also see, which are in very nice, original, and/or frame-off restoration quality.  I also have an impeccable FJ40 that has also undergone a complete frame-off restoration with every bolt and component removed, and that one is priced in the high 40s and worth every penny and is by far the nicest FJ40 anywhere and also in true collector's museum quality condition.

Just one look at the high resolution pictures of this FJ40 and you will see what a great value it is!

If this one, or any of the other ones I currently have for sale are not to your liking, I can have one custom made for you to any level of quality and budget you desire.

Toyota throwing water on fast-charging EVs

Sat, Apr 18 2015

Toyota is undoubtedly committed to moving beyond the internal combustion engine for future automobiles. But, while the company embraces hybrids with boosted production, new models and in motorsports, the automaker is more standoffish when it comes to pure electric models. This is especially true as the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell sedan comes to market. In the mind of Mirai chief engineer Yoshikazu Tanaka, even fast-charging electric vehicles don't have much of a future because of their strain on the power grid. "If you were to charge a car in 12 minutes for a range of 500 km (310 miles), for example, you're probably using up electricity required to power 1,000 houses," he said to Reuters. Tanaka admitted that EVs have a place in the market, but it was for short drives during the day after being charged each night. As one of the people responsible for bringing the Mirai to the road, it shouldn't be too shocking that Tanaka puts his faith in hydrogen. He feels that H2 is the better choice for long-distance driving because of the available range and speed of refueling. "Of course, there are technological hurdles that need to be cleared to make this commercially viable," he said to Reuters. One of the biggest of those obstacles is building a new refueling infrastructure. But, despite government subsidies, Japan looks set to miss its goal of opening 100 H2 stations by the end of March 2016. Toyota has thrown a lot of support behind hydrogen but has been accused of overstating some of the fuel's benefits and embellishing the current refueling infrastructure. Still, engineers at the automaker are working to bring the cost of the fuel cell vehicle down to the level of a diesel by 2022.

Drive like a prince: Join us for a walk through Monaco's car collection

Fri, Dec 29 2023

Small, crowded, and a royal pain in the trunk lid to drive into during rush hour, Monaco sounds like an improbable location for a huge car museum. And yet, this tiny city-state has been closely linked to car culture for over a century. It hosts two major racing events every year, many of its residents would qualify for a frequent shopper card if Rolls-Royce issued one, and Prince Rainier III began assembling a collection of cars in the late 1950s. He opened his collection to the public in 1993 and the museum quickly turned into a popular tourist attraction. The collection continued to grow after his death in April 2005; it moved to a new facility located right on Hercules Port in July 2022. Monaco being Monaco, you'd expect to walk into a room full of the latest, shiniest, and most powerful supercars ever to shred a tire. That's not the case: while there is no shortage of high-horsepower machines, the first cars you see after paying ˆ10 (approximately $11) to get in are pre-war models. In that era, the template for the car as we know it in 2023 hadn't been created, so an eclectic assortment of expensive and dauntingly experimental machines roamed whatever roads were available to them. One is the Leyat Helica, which was built in France in 1921 with a 1.2-liter air-cooled flat-twin sourced from the world of aviation. Fittingly, the two-cylinder spun a massive, plane-like propeller. Government vehicles get a special spot in the museum. They range from a Cadillac Series 6700 with an amusing blend of period-correct French-market yellow headlights and massive fins to a 2011 Lexus LS 600h with a custom-made transparent roof panel that was built by Belgian coachbuilder Carat Duchatelet for Prince Albert II's wedding. Here's where it all gets a little weird: you've got a 1952 Austin FX3, a Ghia-bodied 1959 Fiat 500 Jolly, a 1960 BMW Isetta, and a 1971 Lotus Seven. That has to be someone's idea of a perfect four-car garage.  One of the most significant cars in the collection lurks in the far corner of the main hall, which is located a level below the entrance. At first glance, it's a kitted-out Renault 4CV with auxiliary lights, a racing number on the front end, and a period-correct registration number issued in the Bouches-du-Rhone department of France. It doesn't look all that different than the later, unmodified 4CV parked right next to it. Here's what's special about it: this is one of the small handful of Type 1063 models built by Renault for competition.

12 best hybrid SUVs for 2022

Tue, Jun 15 2021

If you're searching for the best hybrid SUV, the truth is there actually aren't that many choices. While there's an endless sea of those powered solely by gasoline, those that add batteries and superior fuel economy to the mix are few and far between. The very good news, however, is that the choices you have are actually excellent. The top-selling and top-rated Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are not only available as hybrids, for instance, but are actually at their most appealing as hybrids.  Luxury hybrid SUVs are a different story. While Lexus offers each of its crossover SUVs as a conventional hybrid, those of other brands are by and large plug-in hybrids that provide a relatively brief amount of all-electric propulsion, superior fuel economy and higher prices that are somewhat countered by EV tax rebates. We include both conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrids in the below list of best hybrid SUVs. All are listed alphabetically within each category. Best small hybrid SUVs   |   Best midsize hybrid SUVs Best luxury hybrid SUVs   |   Best luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs Best small hybrid SUVs Honda CR-V Hybrid Why it stands out: Best-in-class back seat space; hybrid's distinctive EV-like power delivery; middle lower LATCH anchorCould be better: Antiquated and glitchy tech interface; a bit dull Hybrid fuel economy: 38 mpg combined (AWD only) Read our 2022 Honda CR-V Review Consider the CR-V the baseline for any compact SUV search. Objectively speaking, it's tough to beat due to its massive cargo capacity, voluminous back seat, well-balanced driving dynamics, competitive pricing and features, strong safety ratings and well-regarded reliability. In terms of its hybridness, we like that Honda's distinctive hybrid system sees most of its propulsion handled by the electric motor (the engine rarely powers the wheels directly), resulting in a more EV-like, torque-rich power delivery and a less obtrusive gas engine. For the vast majority of compact SUV buyers, and especially families, the CR-V Hybrid checks every box.    Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Why it stands out: Beautiful interior; excellent infotainment and safety technology; traditional automatic transmissionCould be better: No spare tire; styling a tad outrageous Hybrid fuel economy: 37-38 mpg combined (AWD only) Plug-in hybrid electric range: 33 miles Plug-in hybrid fuel economy: 80 MPGe Read our 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review The Tucson is the new kid in town and it's made quite an entrance.
