1965 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj45 Pickup on 2040-cars

1965 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Pickup. This FJ45 has spent the bulk of its life in Arizona with the last 12 years in a dry, low humidity part of Washington state. I bought this truck because it didn't have any rust in it which is unheard of in these rigs. I then commenced a complete six month frame off restoration. The engine and transmission are not original to this truck. The anemic F1 engine has been replaced by an F2 engine with 20,000 original miles. The 3 speed has been replaced with a later 4 speed transmission. Power steering was installed to aid in the comfort of driving while at low speeds and in tight surroundings. The truck is repainted in its original color, Horizon Blue. The paint is show quality. The pickup bed has been sprayed with Horizon Blue bed liner.
This is the convertible version of the FJ45 pickup. The top and doors are easily removed and the windshield can be laid down flat on the hood. The winch is early Japanese made and appears to be original to the truck. I have not undercoated the FJ deciding to leave it natural because of its high quality condition. The engine has not been detailed, which I will leave to you. If you are a perfectionist, you may want to replace the original tailgate, which is not perfect. The restoration was performed by a team of professionals that I have used at least a dozen times over the last 15 years. They are chosen for the quality of their work, not for the fees they charge. Excellence is the goal. This truck starts, runs and drives very well. Everything works, except for the horn, which I have elected to not hook up. Everything on this truck has been inspected and refurbished, if necessary, always striving to use original parts when available. We've done our best to maintain the originality of this truck. It is a stunning restoration that will last for another 50 years! |

Toyota's Mirai fuel cell car gets its own special showroom
Wed, Apr 15 2015If the car's unique, the showroom better be as well. That's the approach Toyota is taking with the Mirai, its first production hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle. In fact, the model is getting its own special showroom starting this Friday. The Japanese automaker is opening the showroom in Tokyo. The facility takes up two floors totaling about 1,800 square feet and, from the pictures, it looks to have a very Zen-like quality. Toyota will be displaying one Mirai vehicle and will have another vehicle available for public test drives available every Friday. Toyota started selling the Mirai in Japan late last year and has announced plans to debut the car in the US – starting in California – this fall at a base price of $57,500, or a lease option of $499 a month for 36 months ($3,649 is due at signing). Earlier this year, Toyota said it was going to bump production to 2,000 vehicles next year (and 3,000 in 2017) from 700 units this year. With such a ramp-up in store, Toyota will spend about $170 million increasing production capacity of the fuel-cell vehicle. That total probably doesn't take into account the stylish new Tokyo showroom. Located within a hydrogen station operated by Iwatani Corporation in Tokyo's Minato Ward, the space will serve as a hub for sharing information on fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen, with the aim of promoting a hydrogen-based society. In addition to having one Mirai on display and another for test drives, the showroom will use videos and other media to raise awareness about the features of the vehicle, the benefits of hydrogen and more. Automotive Grade Linux will be the backbone of your connected car
Fri, Jan 6 2017Creating a backend for a secure, reliable, and expandable infotainment system is costly and time consuming. The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization, has set out to promote and advance the Linux operating system in commercial products. Automotive Grade Linux, or AGL, is a group within the Foundation that seeks to apply a Linux backend to a number of automotive applications in a variety of vehicles from various suppliers and manufacturers. AGL's goal is to create a common, unifying framework that allows developers and manufacturers to easily implement applications across platforms. Currently, the focus is on infotainment systems, but AGL has plans for instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and eventually active safety software. At CES, a display from Panasonic showed a completely digital and customizable dashboard that allows information and apps to be moved from the gauge cluster to the infotainment screen and back, all through the use of gesture and touch controls. Although the organization has been around for five years, it's really only been in the past three that the group has been working hand in hand with automakers and suppliers. The first two OEMs to participate, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover, have since been joined by Mazda, Suzuki, Ford, and, as of this week, Daimler. The latter is important as until now most of AGL's partner's have been based in Japan or the US. Other partners include suppliers Denso, Renesas, Continental, Qualcomm, and Intel. AGL want's to supply roughly 80 percent of the backend, allowing partners to then finish and refine the Linux system for each individual application. Think of how the Android operating system is refined and customized for individual smartphones from Samsung, LG, and Motorola. While the final product looks different, developers can have an application that will work across all AGL systems. Because it is open source, anyone can use and develop for AGL. You can even go onto the group's website and download a copy right now. There is also a software development kit available that helps facilitate app creation on the platform. Vehicle development cycles take roughly five years, so there currently are no cars that run an AGL backbone available for consumers. AGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy says products should be hitting the market later this year, with even more coming in 2018. Right now, the industry is relatively fragmented when it comes to infotainment and related systems.
