2018 Ford Expedition vs other big SUVs: How it compares on paper

With our Alex Kierstein rightly impressed in his first-drive review of the new 2018 Ford Expedition, we decided to dig a little deeper into the numbers, and we came up with the spreadsheet below to highlight how the new 2018 Expedition compares on paper to its main full-size SUV competitors: the 2018 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban (and therefore the 2018 GMC Yukon), 2018 Toyota Sequoia and 2018 Nissan Armada. We also threw in the new, even bigger 2018 Chevrolet Traverse since, as you'll see, its massive dimensions should put it on the radar for anyone who needs loads of passenger and cargo space but doesn't care as much about towing. A few notes about the chart above. First, the 6.2-liter V8 that's included with the new-for-2018 Tahoe RST trim level is the standard engine on the GMC Yukon Denali. You can apply most of the Tahoe's numbers to the entire Yukon and Yukon XL lineup. Second, though we highlighted categories where the Traverse led, we also highlighted the runner-up full-size SUV, since this was ultimately about that segment. Subaru, Toyota refute reports of BRZ, 86 demise

After news broke of an anticipated Japanese report telling that the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ twins were not long for this world, both carmakers have denied the cars' successors have been canceled. Carscoops reports that both Toyota and Subaru have stated they are developing next-generation cars. As a Subaru USA spokesman told Carscoops: "We do not endorse this report coming from Japan's Best Car. ... We are moving ahead with a next-generation Subaru BRZ, but have no further details at this time." The website also reported a similar statement from Toyota. With the models getting long in the tooth and no test mules having been spied, doubts are not unwarranted — remember just how long Toyota teased the fifth generation Supra before its 2019 debut. More information is not yet available, or whether the two brands will still collaborate to bring the new-generation coupes to the market, but for Toyobaru fans this might be grounds to breathe a sigh of relief. That would also mean, that if the hinted MR-2 revival is based on solid ground, there will be a full "Three Brothers" Toyota sports car portfolio for sale in the next decade. With the Supra offered also as a four-cylinder in Japan, it will be interesting to see if Toyota will retain the 86's current, slight power advantage over the Supra's 197-horsepower variant or respect the status of the bigger brother. Toyota launches new Passo hatchback in Japan [w/video]

With considerable manufacturing capacity here in the United States and even a NASCAR program, it'd be all too easy to categorize Toyota as an American automaker. Only it's not. It's Japanese, of course. And back in the Japanese Domestic Market, it offers a whole range of models we'll never see in North America. Models like the Crown sedan, Noah minivan and this, the new Passo hatchback.
Sold in various markets as the Daihatsu Boon, Daihatsu Sirion, Perodua Myvi and (for a time) the Subaru Justy, the Toyota Passo is a compact hatchback that slots in size-wise between the Yaris sold in America and the Aygo offered in Europe (except the Passo is taller than either).
Power comes from a 1.0-liter engine with 69 horsepower that can be had in front- or all-wheel drive, or a 1.3 driving 95 horses to the front wheels alone. A continuously variable transmission is on duty regardless of engine choice. Front-drive models get a stop/start system, but even all-wheel-drive versions are eligible for government tax credits. That's because, though the new Passo only appears to be mildly updated, the engines have been thoroughly reworked to deliver 30-percent better fuel economy than the previous model, coming in 20-percent better than the standards being enacted by the Japanese government for next year.
