1971 FJ40 .

The previous owner told me this FJ40 had been cosmetically restored 3 or 4 years ago. It is a super clean daily driver. It appears to have new door weather stripping, headliner, deluxe carpet, emblems, hub caps and other misc items.

Overall, this FJ40 remains very original. The interior is in amazing condition for a 43 year old vehicle. The interior paint is all original and the entire dash, visors and gauges are all original and still in nice condition. All the gauges work properly. The wipers and lights work fine.

The upholstery is a heavy duty Navy Blue vinyl and in great condition. The seat backs and frames are original. The headliner and floors have been treated to a dense automotive carpet, which I hated at first, but getting kind of used to now.

The vehicle has 79,082 original (box A) miles. The title VIN numbers (FJ4091677) match the frame numbers, as well as the body tag numbers, which is still in the driver door jamb. Even the engine block numbers match the truck.

"In the future, let's see which FJ's are more sought after. All numbers matching examples, or FJ's modded with LS5 V8's, billet pulleys and racing seats.... ? "

The body is straight, solid and shows well. There are no signs of accidents, and all the doors and hood close squarely. The windows roll up and down nicely and the rear fender wells have never been cut.

The truck is very solid, and travels quietly down the road with no squeaks or rattles.

As you can see, ALL the original components in the engine bay are still in place.  A big plus If you have plans to do a full restoration.

The engine sounds great and runs strong. The engine does not blow smoke ever and the truck has no oil leaks whatsoever. The engine even runs cool in the Arizona heat (117+).  The brakes work fine and the clutch and tranny work well. The steering is fine around town but wants to wander a bit at full speed. Big tires??

The exterior has been repainted.  It is not a "high-end" repaint, but still nice enough to show. There are no major drips, scratches or paint chips.

I did install a new lift kit, shocks and 5 new 33''x10.5" BFG Mud Terrains. The BFG's are ultra quiet on the road.

The body has had some rust issues in the past. These areas however, have been cut out and had new panels welded back in. The quality of work looks OK, and the repairs seems to be holding fine. (Please see the pictures of the repairs on the driver floor and drivers step area.) That area on driver's side of the floor, is the only part of the entire floor that has been worked on. The flat panels above the driver's and passenger side step boards show signs of work, and the area below the tailgates have been worked on too.

The old patchwork is there, but I don't feel have any effect on body strength whatsoever.

I feel this is a nice FJ40 for someone who actually wants to drive and enjoy their Land Cruiser.  It is not an "over the top" Nut and Bolt restoration that you wouldn't dare take off road, but it is certainly nice enough to show off at your local car show. Drive it to work on Fridays, or pack it up and head out on weekend adventures.  One thing is for sure...a clean, very original, matching number FJ40 will only gain in value.

I have a 100% positive eBay feedback rating. I have sold many classic cars, vintage boats and classic motorcycles all over the world and have not had one displeased customer. I am forthcoming about all my vehicles true conditions, positive and negative. I do ask you to read my listing carefully.  Also, please call if you have any questions, prior to placing a bid, and if possible come out and view the vehicle  in person.

Please only bid if you intend to follow through with the purchase.  Thank you!

April Fools' Day brings Jeep Sedan, Hyundai N Roadster, Toyota Yaris pickup and more

Mon, Apr 1 2019

There is one day out of the year when public relations professionals have permission to lie to journalists and to the public: April Fools' Day. Manufacturers release details about wild, weird and wacky new technology, concept vehicles and services. Some take it to obvious outlandish extremes (Jeep Sedan anybody?), while others plot to mislead with products that are just outside the realm of possibility. Check out all the "jokes" below. BMW Motorrad BMW doesn't want to exclude anybody from experiencing the thrill of high-level racing, so it is introducing 'iRace" autonomous programming on its S 1000 RR sport bike. It includes beginner, sportsman, advanced and unlimited driving modes, and stores GPS information for all Superbike world championship tracks. Hyundai Hyundai is wrong for this. The Hyundai N Roadster is the work of South Korean designer Yeonjoon Park and features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, rear-wheel drive and a hard convertible top. Hyundai says this is a "concept (for now)," but we think it'd make a seriously great Mazda Miata competitor. Honda Honda wins the award for the best interactive gimmick, as its press release for the '90s-inspired special-edition Pastport includes a live hotline number with a message from Fred Savage. Call 1-833-PASTPORT for more information. Jeep Put the Jeep Cherokee face on the Chrysler 300's body, and voila! The 2019 Jeep Sedan is born. We can't decide if the name or the rendering is better. Land Rover Accessibility to charging ports is of major concern to anybody with a plug-in vehicle. So, with the recent launch of the Range Rover P400e and Range Rover Sport P400e, Land Rover is putting forth an effort to install more stations around the globe. First up is Scotland's Isle of Skye. Adventurers need juice too! Lexus Australia Lexus expands its Encore service to include doggos. The new service, called Enpaw, will take pups to luxury boarding kennels in style. Toyota U.S. Toyota created the Yaris Adventure pickup for "those who want to tell their friends they own a truck but never veer off pavement." It's part Mazda 2, part RAV4, 100 percent ute and it looks ... great? Creating a new segment might be all fun and games to Toyota, but Ford is reportedly considering a Focus-based ute in a similar, albeit larger, style. Toyota Australia Toyota is launching a new HiAce van, and it's already getting a limited-edition variant called the PieAce.

Carmakers ask Trump to revisit fuel efficiency rules

Mon, Feb 13 2017

Car companies operating in the US are required to meet stringent fuel efficiency standards (a fleet average of 54.5MPG) through 2025, but they're hoping to loosen things now that President Trump is in town. Leaders from Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and VW have sent a letter to Trump asking him to rethink the Obama administration's choice to lock in efficiency guidelines for the next several years. The car makers want to revisit the midterm review for the 2025 commitment in hopes of loosening the demands. They claim that the tougher requirements raise costs, don't match public buying habits and will supposedly put "as many a million" jobs up in the air. The Trump administration hasn't specifically responded to the letter, although Environmental Protection Agency nominee Scott Pruitt had said he would return to the Obama-era decision. The automakers' argument doesn't entirely hold up. While the EPA did estimate that the US would fall short of efficiency goals due to a shift toward SUVs and trucks, the job claims are questionable. Why would making more fuel efficient vehicles necessarily cost jobs instead of pushing companies to do better? As it is, even a successful attempt to loosen guidelines may only have a limited effect. All of the brands mentioned here are pushing for greater mainstream adoption of electric vehicles within the next few years -- they may meet the Obama administration's expectations just by shifting more drivers away from gas power. 10 most memorable cars and SUVs of 2019

Tue, Dec 24 2019

It's no surprise that a car reviewer will drive a large number of cars over the course of a year. Indeed, when the clock strikes midnight on Dec 31, I will have driven 75 new cars, trucks and SUV this year (and one old Peugeot) over the course of weekly evaluation loans and first drive events. That sure seems like a lot. Some definitely got more attention than others, and some came and went without leaving much of an impression – I completely forgot I drove a Kia Forte. Yet in the spirit of this day, I thought I'd pick the 10 that I would love to see under the Christmas tree tomorrow morning. You know, just in case you were looking to get me something. I'll also throw in a couple disappointments that were memorable for the wrong reasons. They'd get sent back to the store on Boxing Day. Lexus LC 500 Pictured below and resplendent in its Flare Yellow metallic paint, the car that would reach highest on my list is the divine Lexus LC 500. As a devout lover of GT cars, the LC ticks all the boxes. Muscular and characterful engine? V8, check. Beautifully made and memorable interior? It's gorgeous, to hell with Remote Touch. Check. Comfortable and reasonably practical? Superb seats and, uh, yeah. Makes me want to stand there and stare at it? You bet. Though I long figured my heart would say LC but my head "Porsche 911," after this go-around, that's no longer the case. LC, pretty please. 2020-lexus-lc500-f34-2 View 19 Photos Polestar 1 I actually feel lucky that I got to drive the Polestar 1. Only 150 will be produced each year, and it's a far more special thing than it would initially appear. And that's despite initially appearing to be a beautiful, classic two-door GT car with a roof so rakish it's only possible because it's made of carbon fiber. That itÂ’s a massively powerful plug-in hybrid with more all-electric range than any other PHEV is a thick dollop of whipped cream on a slice of Toscakaka. You know, Swedish dessert, Swedish car. Fine, I'll stick to Ikea references.  Polestar1_Launch_SanFrancisco-0014 View 44 Photos Volvo V60 Cross Country Speaking of Sweden, did I drive this car off the road there? Sure did! And despite this, the V60 Cross Country scratches that certain wagon itch and looks sensational to boot. I wish it were available with the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it's best not to get greedy at Christmas.
